Flight...free (using airline points)
Value resort (thinking either music or movies, less points than pop...free (using airline points)

4 day pass using the YES program...around $310 (m-t)
Food (we will split most meals)...$250
Extra money for whatever...$150
We plan on arriving Monday and leaving Friday
(I think I've covered everything)

I hate that my husband can't get the time off work to go with us, but I don't see the opportunity coming up for a few years to go again. My son really wants to go and I can make it happen at what seems to be a great deal, however, I'm nervous with it just being myself and my son.

Does this seem like a good deal/idea?? Please give me all angles to consider to help make this decision :wizard:

It sounds like an excellent deal and if you can get all the pieces to fall together then go for it! I never had any qualms about traveling with my kids when they were young. Heck, when you think about it, you do it all of the time around home. I can't think of an easier place to travel with your kids than Disney when you're doing it without your co-parent.

The food budget seems a little light but you didn't say how long you will be staying. If it's a week or more, I would definitely look for ways to add to your budget.

I always made sure that I had plenty of back up money on hand when it was just me and the kids traveling. Have some cash (even if you don't plan to spend it), at least one credit card and your debit card. That way, if there are any emergencies or you get stranded in Orlando due to weather, you will have some way to get yourselves a room, food and anything else you need.

Do you plan on eating things like breakfast or light dinner, snacks in the room? Don't forget you can bring food in as long as it's not glass containers, I believe. That would help cut down costs.

I have taken DD13 since she was 5, I am a single mom. So you've got this! If I can do it, and yes I was slightly anxious, but I tell you we stayed on property and it was really easy.

Have a great time!

I do plan on having water and snacks delivered to the room and taking some to the parks with us :))

The first time we flew with DS, I made sure he had a printed list of any phone number he might possibly need (and then some ;) .) I printed them on a card about the size of a business card and laminated it. I put had him put the card in a safe place & explained to him what to do if we were separated. Told him to look for people who worked for the airlines, or a mother with kids, etc. We had no problems but it was a little insurance for me.

Good luck & if you go, have a magical time! :wizard:

ETA: I also printed out flight info and hotel name on it.

Sounds like a lot of fun! I want to take my middle son in October since I took my youngest last year. I also bought the YES tickets. We can't afford for our whole family to go every year, so I've been trying to take one at a time in between. We have a few cards with rewards points accumulated & I saved my Christmas money from parents, so I'm hoping it will happen:)

I budgeted $50 a day for my youngest & I to eat last year, but it ended up being less. We split meals or sometimes I also got a kid's meal (cheese burger).I brought breakfast and snacks with us, so we ate two meals plus another snack (Can't go to Disney & not get yummy snacks!) per day. We also did a few table service meals.

Thanks everyone..I think I may do it :thumbsup2. I'll def check out the Halloween party..he would love that (if it fits into our budget and time frame). Anyone know if the YES class takes the whole day and what park it's done at?

I'm nervous with it just being myself and my son.

Honestly I wouldn't be nervous at all- I have taken my 2 godkids alone many times-we have flown, we have driven, we have flown and rented a car. I now take my daughter alone every time- we drove down alone when she was 2 1/2 (24 hour drive) we flew down with her and her friend when they were about 9, we flew alone, this year we are taking amtrak down alone for 2 weeks. No problem- I don't worry at all. We gone to Mexico, Bahamas, Grand Cayman, St. Thomas and many other places with just the 2 of us! GO- have a blast and its something that you and your son with always remember!

The YES classes take 3 hours and depends on which one is available as to where the class is. You need to look at the age range, as they vary for each class. It looks like there is plenty of classes right now in October, but they do sell out, so don't delay. Have fun!

Sounds awesome!! I'd love to do a Mommy and Son trip one day but I'm not sure if DH would allow it - :lmao: Meaning, he would want to go too bad and would be far too jealous of us! ;)

As another poster mentioned, the Y.E.S class takes 2.5 - 3.0 hours but they are awesome and of course, a great opportunity and deal!

Sounds like you've planned it out - I hope you get to go and have a blast!! :thumbsup2

Sounds great! I would consider adding Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party if they are having it one of the nights while you are there
