Thinking about making the leap to Mac...

I dumped my Dell desktop and switched to a Mac primarily because of the terrible time I had with Dell's customer support. I still have a Dell laptop, but when I save up enough $$ I'll be switching that over to a MacBook as well.
I'm not a computer expert, I just want it to work and the Mac just works.

Maybe you don't.... are you talking that super sexy looking small one? If so, be aware... only ONE usb port.

Not a issue for me. However not having a DVD drive is more a issue.
The new MACS just look purty!

I love my Powerbook G4. There are only 2 issues I have with it. Some sites will not allow you to access them unless you have Windows, and Powerpoint presentations created on a Windows machine will not play the sound on a Mac. (at least on mine. I suppose that if you use the new Intel Macs and boot into Windows, the sound would play.)

Yes, they would. I've had no problems with Windows stuff on my intel Mac.

My tax refund is going towards LEOPARD and a new backup drive. Vista has got nothing on all the cool stuff Leopard does!!

DH works in PC support and has to spend an inordinate amount of time working on the few Macs in his building. He doesn't recommend them. They're really pricey for what you get.

DH is computer geekish - since like the 80's - just last year he was talked into a Macbook pro with his employer - he now says he'll never switch, and cant believe it took him so long!! (he is a software engineer, and for many years was the only tech guy!)

(he also loves there are few to none virus' - not enough macs out there to give the bad guys reasons to infect!)

Please, you obviously have had issues with Apple\Mac software. I have news for you, ALL companies are going to have some issues. I've been in the IT field for a very long time now. Apple is far, far, far, far less prone to problems than anyone els out there, and a JOY to deal with when it comes to resolving them.

Referring to posts on Apple's own forums regarding posts being deleted and issues is basically like sending someone to the complaint boards for any company. To me, the fact that Apple even HAS support discussion forums on the web is proof positive they are willing to offer more to their customers than many.

You had a problem, you are not happy, get over it. For every complaint you see or hear about on the web, there are 100 NON complainers that never post.
We are talking about Apple in this thread so Ill talk about Apple if this thread was about another company I don't like I talk about how I don't like them. Apple has tons of problem. I mean tons but you probably know little to nothing about computers so you think "Wow PC Magazine and Consumer Reports says Apple is the best, so it must be."

Guess what genious, practically every product now has forums so applauding Apple for something every other company already has shows your lack of knowledge. Apple is the only company that consistanly abuse there power and get away with it because they have thousands of idiots who blindly praise Apple so the complaints that do get raised up are quickly taken down by people like you and others in this thread.

Dude, chill. Don't get all pissy because "thousands of idiots" don't agree with you. :rotfl2:

That's exactly what I was thinking-as I sit here DIS'ing on my Mac...;)

If you don't like Apple, Schmitty-don't buy their products. They've got enough people buying from them that they won't really miss you.

Any words of wisdom? Should I? I hate making a decision like this, I'm always afraid I'm going to screw up and regret it.

This is what the OP asked. To me that implies pros AND cons.

Love my Mac. I've bought 3 in the past 8-9 years. With the first one, I was hooked. I don't remember why I bought the 2nd one (was it prettier?) and I do have to admit that that 2nd one just stopped working one day. It had happened a few times, and the final time it happened to be the day before I was moving to Belgium and I didn't need more to think about so I bought another one. That reminds me, I need to email that Apple store and ask what's up...

WOW! I normally wouldn't even respond to this, but I think you need some help! You obviously are suffering from a lack of something. Self esteem, confidence, fear of small furry animals? Who knows, but there are places that can help you deal with these issues.

Chill....no one here looking for an argument.

Oh, and for eh, reference, I no just a LITTLE bit about computers. Don't make yourself sound like an *** by assuming someone doesn't.

Have a nice day.....and be sure to see some psychiatric help....I really think you need it!

Edit - Sorry if I disturbed anyone else on these boards, really never meant to ruffle anyone's feathers. :) I'll go back to administering those ESX servers I know nothing about now........ ;)

And don't ever call me an idiot again. You're not the only person on this thread that works in the IT field, and I don't blindly praise anything.

No built in optical drive either.

The MacBook Air is deviously cool, but quite impractical. I predict it'll go the same was as the G4 Cube - heralded for it's cool design, never very popular for the practical limitations.

Wow, this thread has been informative and entertaining. ;) Thank you all for the input and opinions, I really appreciate it. I've decided to go Mac. :woohoo:

Good points on the new Air too...I wasn't in the market for one but find what it's missing interesting. Very cool looking but not practical.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the info on the AIR. DN wanted one, now I have the information to talk her into the MacBook instead.
