Thinking about cancelling my trip - bad weather

I'm supposed to be in DL Feb 22nd - Feb 25. The Weather Channel 10 day states that it will be %60 showers during the only two full days I'm going to be there. My last experience with rain at DL was miserable. I can deal with it at WDW but DL is a different story. Anyways, my plane ticket was pretty darn cheap and I don't mind eating the cost of it....just don't wanna be out there while it's raining the whole time. Any feedback?? :(

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. We have been watching the 10 day forecast for our trip. We leave today & will be in the parks tomorrow through Monday. Weather.com and the Disneyland site have different forecasts with rain predicted on different days. Weather.com changes several times a day and we have seen everything predicted from clear & sunny to downpours.

I'm thinking that a rainy day at DL is better than a dry day at work :)

I would still go. Most likely if it does rain it won't rain all day. And that is still a week away so who knows it might change by then. When I went in January it rained the last day I was there but it wasn't horrible. There's no way I wouldn't go to Disneyland even if it did rain.

My mom and I were there in Feb of 2004 and it was cold (50's) and rainy the whole time (3 days). We just wore our rain ponchos and had a great time anyway. Would have been nicer if it was warmer, being from IL and all, but we still had a lot of fun.

But you said you didn't like the last trip you were on because of rain, so I guess it's an individual situation. If you really feel like you'll have a bad time and can cancel and re-book for little or no cost, then you should do what you feel is best. Just remember weather is never guarnateed and you could run into rainy weather on your re-scheduled trip, too!

Good luck deciding!

Can you wait a few more days until you decide? The weather has been unpredictable. On Saturday it was 80+ and I was wearing shorts and a tshirt. Yesterday, it as cloudy and cool. Today, beautiful blue skies but a little cool.

We're heading to LA tomorrow and are planning on going to DL for at least a day or two this trip.

I hope it does rain while we're there, because if it does... thats the day I'll pick to go to the parks - but I dislike crowds at DL much more than I dislike rain at DL.

I'm with Tink33 - is there any way you can wait a few more days to decide?
Will you be kicking yourself if you cancel everything and then find out the weather on your planned days turned out to be perfect?

I love going to DL in the rain. It's usually not a hard, driving rain and it keeps the bulk of the crowds away!

I would also try to wait it out a few more days. We are supposed to arrive in disneyland on the 25th-28th. The weather forcast is SO not reliable for the weather we are having in California right now. It was expected to be huge showers starting today and it is a little cold outside but the skies are goregous. I am in central ca, so about 4 hours away but I would give it more time for this rain system to go away. The weather on the news is only calling for rain friday-sunday now so you might get lucky. If you are planning on eating the ticket anyways I would just wait it out. Even if you do get rain I bet it is an on/off type thing. Good luck

We did the same thing last year when we went in Feb. We watched and watched the weather for like 10 days in advance. And I swear it changed daily, if not more than once a day. It was so maddening! In the end it did rain 1 day we were there (out of 3) but it was a light drizzly type of rain. It actually wasn't too bad. The crowds were very minimal and there were virtually no wait on the rides.

That said, we're going right after you, Feb. 26-Mar 2nd and I'm really crossing my fingers that we'll get decent weather for a change. I don't mind one day or light rain, but it would totally suck if it rained the whole time. Even though I know I'll probably just make myself stressed out worrying about the weather, I'll probably keep checking too. I can change my hotel arrangements up to 72 hours in advance so I have some leeway. I think the only way I'd cancel is if it were showing serious % chance of rain for multiple days. And even then I'm not sure I would. It seems that often it's "scattered" showers so even though the percentages may be high, it doesn't necessarily mean it'll rain at Disneyland.

We're kind of in the middle of a drought down here this year (YTD rain: last year 22" normal 12" this year 4.5") so while the rain might be welcome, the weathermen keep saying "here comes a storm" and then "oops, it went north or south of LA"

At worst you'll get wet and have no lines. Most of the locals stay home when it rarely does rain.

Thanks for all the advice guys....I just checked the 10 day forecast again and now my first full day dropped from %60 showers to 10% and just clouds. YAY! Yeah, I think I'm going to have to wait until, at least, the end of the weekend to see what might be happening. This is maddening though. Don't rain on my parade darn it :)

If you haven't yet, see my day 2 trip report over on the other board for an example of a rainy day at Disneyland. Sure, there were a few issues with it (Fantasmic and the fireworks show got cancelled, and if they announce they're replacing a parade with "Mickey's Rainy Day Cavalcade" don't bother waiting around for it...) The major issue with the rain is that even after it lets up all the benches are wet, and there aren't a lot of options for dry places to sit down (the Enchanted Tiki Room or the theaters are good ones though.) It did cause a few inconveniences, but it definitely wasn't anything worth cancelling a trip over. And yes, it did cut the lines down considerably, to the point that Space Mountain was the only ride we even bothered with a FP on.

Being from Seattle, I would definitely still go!

I love the sun and tend to plan vacations in warm sunny spots, so would be disappointed if it rained, but I sure as heck wouldn't cancel! I've read about the rain ponchos, and mentioned them to DH. "Like we need another raincoat!" He asked, "Do you really want to bring ours along to Disneyland?" No way! If it rains (and I mean RAIN, not a little mist) then we'll get the ponchos and have yet another souvenir to bring home. ;)

I'm hoping that April weather means sunny skies and temps in the low to mid 70s - perfect!

I wouldn't worry about the weather. Besides that I have seen weather forecasts for the very day that were way off.

I would trade the Oregon weather (like our artic chill right now) anygiven day for a rainy week in SoCal.

Besides, it's an experience that you'll have coming back years from now. Rains= drives crowd away.

It might be the last time you see POTC before they change it! I would go for sure. If the weather got too bad I would go see an inside show like Billy Hill.

I think that you can count on it being cool, even cold, but you want get rained on. I am in San Diego and will be going to Disneyland tomorrow through Thursday. We will not be rained on. The cold can be fought off by there best hot chocolate or coffee.
Best wishes for a good trip,
Penguinsteve
