Think they will end the "freebies" with all the new celebration buttons???

Three years ago, 3 of us girlfriends went to WDW to celebrate one friend's 50th birthday. (Which also happens to be the same day as Walt Disney's:thumbsup2 ) She wore the birthday button on the actual day, and whenever anyone told her "Happy Birthday"--and many did, both guests and castmembers--she would say "Thank you for coming to my party!"

It's all what you make it, I figure. If you get attention, enjoy! If not, be glad you're there!

By the way, some of you who have already been there in 2009--are there lots of "party" decorations up in the parks for the "What will you celebrate" theme, or is it pretty low key? I'm going next week for MY birthday, and I will for sure be wearing a button--with no expectations:)

our last few visits were for specific celebrations......one was our 40th anniversary that our children gave us.....another one was my sil's 60th and then this past May was my 60th.....I only wore my birthday button and even strangers wished me a good birthday...
I always tell a young married couple when they have their just married pin or if they are wearing those ears with veils and top hats......I say congratulations to them and for birthdays I say Happy Birthday and then their name.....hey it makes them feel good and I feel good for saying it.....
I did get sung to on Main street USA from the quartet......I was blushing really red.......ROFL
Go and have fun and as always Disney is for all of us....young old and inbetween

We are going on a last minute trip after finding out my mom is now cancer free. I was going to get her one of the buttons (not sure yet) so she can celebrate that. The way this discussion is going it looks like other people would turn their noses up at this. I may want to rethink the button now.

de-lurking to post for the first time :)

Congratulations Autumn, to your Mom and her entire family! This is HUGE!

We're visiting WDW for the first time Feb23-Mar4. Our reason for visiting is we're celebrating my 10yr DS 5 years post-treatment for AML.

DS was granted a wish in 2005 and he wanted to go to Disneyland. We all decided that when he had passed his 5yr Cancer-free milestone we'd celebrate with a trip to WDW!!

We're all sooo excited to go! It will be like another chapter can be put behind us, and a new one can begin. :)

I'm hoping I can find one of the buttons, so DS can share his reason for his Celebration, his personal triumph over Cancer. :yay:

Congratulations to everyone Celebrating, I know I'm going to smile and acknowledge the many buttons I'll see when we're there. :goodvibes

I thought the number of birthday buttons would go down with this promotion because now you have to prove it is your birthday, I think many people "faked" a birthday to see if they would get special treatment for themselves or a child.
:sad2:

You have to prove date of birth for the promotional giveaway of a free ticket, fastpass or gift card. You do not have to prove date of birth for a button.

Get the button if you want one.

Its funny reading this thread because DH and I booked this trip as our delayed honeymoon (never had one)/5yr anniversary trip. Weve never been anywhere together without the kids so this is a pretty big deal for us. When calling to make the ADRs we were asked each time if we were celebrating anything and we said no. We said no for several reasons -- its not our anniversary until June and we go in March and we generally dont like any sort of attention paid to us - we are very quiet introverted people and even as a kid I hated if the restaurant sung Happy Birthday and that sort of thing.

I do know though that when I do get down there I wont be able to stop gushing about being there with DH and its his first trip there and our first trip alone and our 5yr anniversary and the no honeymoon thing. If they will listen, Ill will tell them. I mean for me this is LONG AWAITED!!

I dont want freebies, I just want to get away.

And maybe our dessert could say something along the lines of "..and many more" :lol But thats honestly just because I saw a picture of it here and thought that was super sweet.

On a side note, I had to laugh at the "button abuse" - sounds so serious.

Hey everyone, Celebrate, have a good time, make memories enjoy the great things about disney, look for the good things in life, provide your own 'SPECIALTIES' and if you should be given the cupcake or the confetti smile and say thank you. Let everyone celebrate in their own special way and stop to wish the others you see celebrating a happy what-ever it is they are celebrating, an extra smile or greeting goes a long way. Share the magic, create magic for others, with so many celebrating help Disney brighten someone's day. Don't be afraid to wear the buttons and don't begrudge other who choose to wear them, celebrate with them!
I am going in just a few days to celebrate my 20th wedding anniversary, is it my anniversary when I will be there - NO but on my anniversary my children will be immersed in sports activities, Do I plan to tell everyone I see I am celebrating my anniversary, heck yes 20 years of marriage is a long time and a milestone I am proud of. Do I expect anything - No but if I am helping others have a magical trip the magic will come back to me, because I will feel good.
