Think again

Weighing in at over a pound, these oversized drumsticks pack more than a meal's worth of fat and calories. "The size is part of the problem, but you're also getting the dark meat—which is the oiliest and highest in fat—plus the skin, which adds fat and calories," says Gidus. Putting away just one leg adds up to 1,136 calories and an incredible 54 grams of fat.

And....they're really gross!!

Let's just say the first time I looked up points for one of those bad boys I nearly choked!

What about sodium? I bet that's high, too.

And....they're really gross!!

I have to look away when I see someone eating those. It creaps me out! Something about walking around the park gnawing on an animal's leg makes my stomach hurt. And then you see all that yuckiness ontop by the joint:scared:

if you had to be told that, you are not watching what you eat to begin with...

If I ever had the inkling to dine on one, I sure would not do it in public!~

I'd be shocked to find out anyone thought one of those things was 'healthy.'

The make me sick just to look at!

I've been trying to convince a guy I know that dark meat poultry is actually less healthy than some cuts of beef. He's completely convinced that he can eat any chicken or turkey and it's incredibly healthy.

Well, I actually love them but I was smart enough to know they aren't healthy. Just the skin obviously has a huge amount of fat in it and of course the sodium doesn't help.

of course, they arent healthy. they are full of fat and salt and everyone knows skin is bad for you, but man, they are good. and i eat at least one every time i go to wdw. mmmmmmmmm

We love them, but we split one amongst the 5 of us when the urge hits at the parks.

i knew there was a reason i thought those things were disgusting. i saw a mom and her two tweens (son and daughter) pick apart a turkey leg while waiting for the boat at epcot about 3 weeks ago...and i mean pick apart. when they were done there was nothing left but spindles of tendon (maybe gristle?) sticking up everywhere and a bone. ick.

We visit lots of Ren Faires where turkey legs are almost required. I've never found them the least bit appealing. They smell great but look terrible IMO.

I TOTALLY agree with you!! But, I don't even have to watch someone eating those. When I get near a cart...especially the one in Frontierland...the smell of the meat cooking makes me queasy. Usually, whenever I see anyone eating one, I just have to immediately look away. I honestly do not know what people see in those? :confused3 It reminds me of the time I went to a cajun restaurant and found myself surrounded by people who were sucking the brains out of crawfish...everywhere I looked someone was sucking the head. I just had to excuse myself and wait outside. I know it is hypocritical of me, because I eat meat.....but, food that is so graphic just makes me lose my appetite.

Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there that think because it is fowl that they are a healthy alternative to other offerings. Personally, I think they are gross.
