Think Disney might put their resort parking fees on hold to help with social distancing?

It would seem better for distancing to use your own car rather than a bus. However, I am not paying the parking fee. Think Disney might waive the fees during this time?

No. I asked them this politely and suggested it would help with queues for Disney transport but they have said they're not waiving the fees which is fair enough. You never know if you don't ask ☺️

No they won't but I also thought about it as a good way to encourage people to use their own vehicle.

I suspect they recognized that the ratios of people who drive and people who fly didn't change much when they switched from free to paid resort parking. I expect most people make the choice whether to fly or drive based on what is most convenient for them--after all no waiver of parking fees is going to add up to the cost of plane tickets for the family.

Without my even asking about parking at all, the CM who handled my modification brought up the fact that Deluxe Parking would be X dollars more a day than Value Parking was.

I'd never indicated whether I was driving or flying. Still, I thought it was good that he mentioned it as many could be surprised or have forgotten about it.

I don't see how there would be a connection.

They'll be hurting for $$$ and will be looking for any ways to accumulate money.

I think if you ask and explain you are driving due to to all the issues going on right now, they may remove it. Last year was the first year we drove down where there was a fee. There was some confusion on my resort bill that I inquired about at the front desk. (CBR). I questioned the "orange" fee tied to parking worrying that somehow I was charged for parking in the Orange garage at DS. (turns out it was some Orange County tax). They immediately removed the parking charge from my bill, nearly $250 for a 13 night stay, and told me it was the least they could do.

So who knows. It can never hurt to ask.

Wish they would. Makes perfect sense, because many people will rent a car. We used to rent cars all the time, but now with the parking fees we rely on Disney transportation. The result would be less people on Magical Express and more people driving to the various theme parks and Disney Springs. Also it would encourage people to drive instead of flying. However, it won't happen. In my opinion they are doing everything they can to discourage guests at re-opening.

I can't remember where... but somewhere in the last couple of days there was a statement that included how they couldn't promise good social distancing on Disney buses and that there might be longer than usual wait times. I know they are being clear that they are charging for on site parking but really it would be to their advantage as an incentive to not have so many people on Disney transportation to cut drivers some slack. Even if they had a special Covid-19 parking rate of half price or something.

I think the OP's thought is that it would encourage more people to drive, thus resulting in less need for transportation or at least make it easier to achieve social distancing on transportation. But I think the impact would be too small to bother with it, and plus there would still be a need for parking trams that are difficult to social distance on. And possibly a log jam at TTC, which would defeat the purpose. Disney also is probably trying to recoup money wherever they can!

No way they give that money grab up. It really irks me when you pay $500+ a night to get hit with a resort parking fee. Just a way to make more cash. So don’t expect it. Parking at. A resort has no impact on social distancing as I don’t see how that would help. They don’t care how you get there.. once there you then have to use their transport to get around.

There are often people here who are on the fence about whether they should rent a car while at WDW or just use WDW transportation to get around. Usually, those people opt to use WDW transportation and forego the rental car because the cost of parking at WDW is so prohibitive. The thought is that if parking fees were waived, these people would opt to rent the car instead, thus resulting in fewer people on buses or whatever transportation. If Disney runs the same amount of buses, it would make for fewer people on them and perhaps allow for some form of social distancing.

There are many people that prefer to drive themselves around property for the flexibility and because its usually faster. In these times, its likely also safer, which may entice some people to rent a car/drive rather than take transportation. But, there will still be people who can't stomach the parking costs and will opt to just use WDW transportation because of that.

Not necessarily. Most people who have their own vehicle will drive it to and from the parks. The only communal transportation they'd be required to use are parking trams where applicable, and the ferry or monorail from the TTC.
