Think about a small contract -- many questions!

Actually, transfers for remuneration are expressly prohibited and MS has been known to prohibit such transfers when they become aware of them. That is not to say that there aren't ways around the issue, but I was warned by my transferee who does this a lot that I should under no circumstances hint that there was remuneration involved as that is grounds to deny the transfer and had been done in the past.
That's what the rules say though I've never heard of them stepping in. It doesn't seem to make sense it's OK to rent but not to transfer, but it is the rule and I would see it as enforceable as it's different than using one's own points, if they chose to do so.

Btw, Mississippian, you do know that buying such a small resale contract dramatically increases the cost per point (due to closing costs), don't you?
Actually, it's not such a dramatic increase. Assuming $400 in closing costs and $75 per point, a 50-point buy costs $83 per point. 100 points is $79. 150 points is $77.60. I don't mind paying a bit more per point to test the waters.

For most folks who frequent the DVC boards, an $8 ppt increase would be significant, which is why it was mentioned. As you yourself noted, that increase is attenuated as greater numbers of points are purchased.

It's all a matter of degree, of course: "Testing the waters" for an $8 ppt increase on a 50-point purchase is very different from an $8 ppt increase on a 300-point purchase!

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Maybe I'm misinformed, but isn't the minimum number of points 150 for a first-time purchase? I thought you had to buy at least 150, and then could add on in 25 points increments or more.
True if your initial purchase is through DVC. However, as I understand it, you may make smaller initial purchases through the resale market.

I agree with you, Dean, on the transfer issue for remuneration. My understanding is that it has been enforced, whether it makes sense to do so or not. I think the moral is probably "don't ask, don't tell" and there really won't be a problem.
