Yea, my dad said the same thing to both my brother and I. I never understood it though. Still don't. The goal is to get them to stop crying. Not keep them crying

Wow! I heard, I'll give you something to cry about! Not much different. My dad was tough, we were 3 girls, I was the oldest. He is a big old softy now but back then -

Dad was a drill sergeant in the army. 50+ years later I can still do a perfect military pushup.

It wasn't uncommon for us all to hop in the car to go for a drive. We'd always end up somewhere fun. But us kids were all "are we there yet? Where are we going!" Lol

Here is another one that left a major impression on me growing up.

One day I was in a heated argument with my mom. I was sixteen and sass mouthing her. My dad came into the room and said...." Don't you ever speak to my wife that way again!" Whoa, that put a whole new spin on it. I shut my mouth promptly.
