Things to do without visiting the parks

I'm visiting in February for the Disney Princess Half. I want to hit the parks AFTER both races are complete mostly because it's a long way from Australia and I want to give my body a chance to rest and recover and don't want to tempt myself walking a long way through the parks.

So I'm thinking we'll mostly hang out at the resort but don't want to spend all 4 days just at our resort.

So I'm thinking we will do Disney Springs, the Outlets and any other shops we want to hit, resort hopping.

Is there anything else you would recommend? Here's a quick list of what I'm thinking.

Thursday - we will arrive in the afternoon, check in and rest, perhaps visit the hot pool.

Friday - Race expo to pick up my race pack. Disney Springs later on.

Saturday - 10k in the morning then resort hopping in the afternoon.

Sunday - Princess Half in the morning - outlets in the afternoon.

Monday - first day in the parks.

Disney Springs would be a good place to visit and get the Disney feel without having to go into the parks. As you said, the pools are good. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to those outlets. Might get good deals but they're always so crowded and picked over. City walk is fun and you don't need to go into the parks for that. I don't think the schedules are out but if you're interested in basketball, the Orlando Magic may have a home game while you're there

Go to POR and see the Yeeha Bob show wed-sat around 7:30-11:00PM. He is one of the best kept secrets at Disney and his show is free.

My sister and I have participated in several RunDisney events. We are able to throw in a couple of park days during our trip. But our most fun (besides the runs) have been from resort hopping. Exploring the campsites and lodge at Fort Wilderness then taking the boat to the Contemporary to hop on the monorail and explore the GF or Poly. It's relaxing and gives us a chance to enjoy the other side of Disney while we're there. We like to people watch and see the hustle and bustle of families going to the parks while we are just enjoying life. Another thing we do is explore the resort that we are staying in. We usually stay at POR. When we're there on an actual "park" vacation, we tend to hurry past stuff at the hotel and say "that's nice" but not really look at it.

Besides hanging out at the pool at my own resort, I love going resort hopping, especially to the monorail resorts. I also love DTDSprings, and going mini golfing. The WPs are also really fun.

Go get dinner at hoop dee do. It would be fun for a post-race dinner and it's lots of fun! Fort wilderness is nice to explore. Head over to AKL and check out the savanna, Boma and the bar there. Boardwalk is cool, and there is a very neat bar there too! There is also a great brewery at Boardwalk that has a cheddar soup that is better than Le Cellier!
