I will be traveling to Orlando in April with my mother and sisters. My mother is 80, and in fairly good health, although she cannot walk great distances. I was wondering if anyone had good suggestions on places that would appeal to seniors - such as restaurants or sightseeing trips. We do not plan to go to the major theme parks.

Hi,
You should have a good time even if you don't go to the parks. My 80+ y/o mother likes seeing the ducks at the peabody, tea at GF, visiting BW to walk and ride the boats. We also like to take a tour of the resorts on the monorail, stop in for lunch or dinner while traveling thru. Shopping, if she likes, best at Premium Outlets and newer Mall north of US. Sorry don't remember name, but it has upscale shops and nice selection of restaraunts. DD is fun during the day, nights can get pretty busy. Most of our activities are at WDW, our favorite place. Don't forget valet parking is free at wdw resort hotels if she has a handicap card. :cloud9:

Well, if she likes to shop, there are plenty of opportunities to do that. Possibly a dinner show along the lines of the Dixie Stampede might be nice. As for walking, you could always consider renting an EVC for the trip as back up. We did this w/ my MIL and it worked well. They delivered it right to our hotel and picked it back up.

where are you staying? if onsite at WDW then you can get a free wheelchair - just ask the front desk or bell services.

if not - go to the Disability board for a list of the rental in the area.

mother hated the parks without a wheelchair with them she loves 'em.

some of the WDW resorts have tours - AKL, WL both do.

also there is a garden tour offered at BC/YC/BCV - but I think you might have to be in the hotel to do this one.

just walk around (or push her) at several of the resorts - Polyn, WL, AKL, POR, CSR.

there are other tours -

I know that you said you weren't going to the major parks, but if you change your mind, my mom LOVES taking her time at the World Showcase. She is now 83 and VERY reluctantly rents a scooter. She was so resistant at the scooter thing, but once we talked her into giving it a try, she tells us how much enjoyable it is for her. She can see more and feel so much better by not doing all the walking. She will park and do some walking within the shops and ect. but between countries she rides on the scooter. She told us after the first time that she had seen so much more, seen more detail and enjoyed herself after her first try with the scooter. She took a lot of convincing to use a scooter, I think that she was afraid that she'd run into things, or people, but once she tried it, she was fine.

Another place of interest for mom was the Titanic Exhibit. We all enjoyed that.
