Things to do with a 4 year old

Hi,

We are planning on taking my Granddaughter to Disney in September 2012. She will be 4yrs old and I would be grateful for any information on things to do [ rides, shows, displays, etc ].

I know we have been before but never with a 4yr old [ although I act like one when I am there ].

Any help would be really appreciated

we found that at that sort of age our two children loved both MK and AK more than the other two parks. They weren't interested in the water parks but loved the hotel pool. They walked around in the morning, swam at early afternoon and then we hired a stroller in the evening. Mainly they slept after dinner, DS loved the fireworks and parade but DD slept her way through it.

Many people say that their children dislike the dark rides but both mine were fine. We have seen young children with light up clip ons attached during the darker rides.

Wouldn't suggest rides as all kids are different but found wiht both of mine that a lot of preparation was good beforehand.

at that age, my kids loved interacting with the characters....taking pictures with them, eating at character meals....that sort of thing..

they liked the kiddie type rides - like the carousel, it's a small world...

they liked the TTA and the bear jamboree...

that sort of thing...but every child is different....

I guess it's too early to say what kind of child they are with regards to the things you will find in a theme park.
While we have been there we have seen kids of that age getting freaked out by the characters (and yet the parents still keep pushing them forwards ), yet other kids are the total opposite and are far more adventurous.
As time goes on and the holiday gets closer you will get a much better idea as to whatkind of child they will be but it may be an idea to expose them to the sort of things you may find in the parks, such as people in costume (big animal type things preferably ) so its not such a shock when she comes face to face with a 6 foot mouse.

We are going next year and DD will have her 4th birthday whilst we are there. We are looking at it as on opportunity to do the more kiddie rides we didn't stop to do last time. We will probably also spend more time in Ak as DD loves animals - last time we were only there half a day!

We've just come back with our DD who is 4.
A tip from our trip lasy year with is to try and get up early on your first morning (we were up anyway so we did this, not sure I would set an alarm for it) but we headed over to Magic Kingdom for the official opening of the park - the Mayor is there and all the characters turn up on the train, its rather nice way to start the day.
She loved Magic Kingdom, enjoyed using the queing area next to Pooh Bear's ride as a play area and running about a bit.
There are lots of character meals to consider, think about who she likes, we've done Breakfasts with Mickey at the Contemporary, with Pooh Bear and with Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins.
We did do typhoon lagoon with her last time she was about 3, we spent maybe half a day there there is kiddy area with squirty bits and a small water ring slide thing. We thought it was great for her last time, didn't have time to go back this time.
Also it depends where you are staying, often at the disney hotels there are activities they can get involved in, we stayed at Saratoga and they have a Community hAll where you can go and kids can make things or colour in. They have games and stuff and sometimes specific activities for a small charge, good if your GD likes craft things.

Our DD was three and a half on her first trip. She hated the dark rides and loved the characters. She absolutely loved BibbidiBobbidiBoutique. The best part of the trip for us was character dining and going on such rides as Dumbo and not feeling like a pair of idiots with no children

When DD was 5 and last year, aged 6, she loved going round the World Showcase and visiting the Kidicot stops at each country and colouring in a mask.
