Things to do near the port prior to cruise

We will be spending a day before our cruise in the Cape Canaveral area. We are looking for suggestions for things to do with the family (6 and 9 year olds). We were already to the space center prior to our last cruise so we are looking for other ideas.

Suggestions anyone??

I have information on Brevard County if you are interested - you can drop me a note at snelsonbrown@aol.com - one of the things that is very interesting and not far away is the Brevard Zoo - it is about a 25 minute ride from the port - also you have Jetty park which is right in Cape Canaveral - you have Manatee Park which is right behind the Radisson - there is "stuff" to do here honest - just have to look for it unfortunalty.

Have breakfast/lunch or dinner at Grills. Wonderful meals...gets very busy in the evening...so I would suggest early dinner so you don't have to wait.

We had a great time in the ocean. You can buy the boogie boards very cheap and throw them away or leave them for someone else perhaps. It did storm very hard from about 5-11pm that night. That's probably why the waves were so great.

One of my favorite memories is getting up early (not too early-lol) and going to the beach with dh. It was so peaceful and beautiful.

I second the Brevard Zoo. What a beautiful place it is. I was lucky enough to get a behind the scenes tour a couple of years ago, and I was sooooo impressed, and it has grown even more since then. I need to get back there myself. And really I have no excuse, it's only a few miles from my home (literally under 5 miles). I can drive the hour to WDW but I can't make a stop at my own zoo. Oh and it is a very kid friendly facility.

It would be a little walk, as it is two or three miles up the road from the Radisson if I remember correctly...

We went to Ron Jon's surf shop in Cocoa Beach. It was pretty neat to see the statues etc outside & then we spent some time on the beach.
