Things to do in Paris

Hi

We are going to spend a day in Paris but we don't really want to do the usual tourist stuff.

We are going to go to Eiffel Tower, and Notre Dame, but what else can we do?

We fancy going to a market or something, and is there an area that's a bit like Leicester Square (shops / bars / restaurants)?

I don't want to look round expensive clothing shops, but is there an area with lots of little special shops selling bits and bobs (jewellery, bags, house things etc.)?

Was going to suggest that myself, it's more like Covent Garden tho with all the street theater etc. And there are lots of little interesting shops round there too!

Depends what day you are going but the do have a couple of very interesting flea markets Les Puces De Saint Ouen being the biggest, runs Sat to Mondays I believe, a day out in itself really!

One of our favorite places to wander is the St. Germain des Pres area (6th Arrondisement). Plenty of historic cafes (Le Deux Magots, Cafe de Flore, Le Bonaparte, and Le Polidor), restaurants, shops, and churches (St. Sulpice -- the chuch with the Rose Line in The Da Vinci Code).

dont know when you are going but, there is a walt disney exhibition on in paris, its advertised in the autumn/winter DLP brochure, think it starts in sept, it is on when we visit in november, bit different and following the disney theme!
I have been to an excellent salvador dali exhibition in montmatre too.
