Before you knew it, those of us who thought there wouldn’t be a snowballs chance in H E – double hockey sticks of going started conniving, scheming and PMing (eh, Frick ;) ) trying to figure out how we too could get to Disney for free food and to meet some of our “imaginary cyber friends” and make them not so imaginary!

Eh, YAK! I hear ya! I'm not sure how you or I really managed to pull it off, but lucky for us we did! I am so happy that you are writing a trip report!!! What a great surprise to see you yakkity yakking it up on the TR board! :yay:

I'm sad I missed the Hippy Dippy Bar on the 29th. So do tell! Tell me all about it girlfriend!

I'm pretty sure my DH would not want me going off on a solo trip. Don't think I'd even consider it. How very brave of you YAK.

We left from the Ottawa Airport with no line up at all. I'm assuming it is much smaller then. Haven't been to the TO port.

Thanks for posting so quickly.

I can't BELIEVE they gave you a Ziplock.

Geez.

Anywho... fantabulous start.

I'm IN.

Fellow CANADIAN.

Tear it up.

Like only WE can!

Shoot the moon.

Yak.

Cheers, Mel.

Yeah, Air Canada offers salad - in a box for 8 bucks on PM flights. In a box.

Looking forward to reading more :)

Hey Yzma and Kronk, sorry I killed your thread. Looking forward to hearing more.

The Magical YAK Express. Eeeny, meeny, miney, mo....which car should we chose, I don't know! So when did rental car companies start handing you a piece of paper and telling you to go pick yourself a vehicle, the keys are in them?

Upon arrival we picked up our bags and went right over to the Alamo car rental desk. We chose Alamo, because I had a coupin! :teeth:
K doesn't "do" buses or public transit very well and we had a 4:40 ADR to get to, so no Magic Express for us. Our Magic Express was me driving the YAK Express. No screaming kids, anxious adults (well maybe two) and a immediate departure from Orlando airport!

Of course, when the rental agent told us to go pick a car we immediately thought of Steve Martin in "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" Funny, funny movie but if you are given a piece of paper and told to go get yourself a car....and there are none...not so funny.

Much to our delight, there were many cars to chose from. And we tried out several! We had to get the right YAKage, cargo space, comfort, tune-age capabilities (music) and a possibility of cramming ICF's into the back to transport them at any given time. I think ahead!

Since I was an old pro at navigating around Orlando because I was here two short months ago, we made a quick stop at THE S-U-P-E-R Wal-mart for a few extras. Super!

We were finally heading to WDW. I was trying to explain to K all about it since to her Orlando was pretty much looking like any other city....except with palm tree's. I was YAKing on about such trivial points like, there isn't any chain-link fences around the park, they have their very own bus system (that we wouldn't be using ;) ) there are a bunch of huge hotels, but not in a Las Vegas way....blah, blah, blah. I'm sure K didn't have any concept of what I was YAKing on about until she saw this:

DSCN1107.jpg

(Notice, no bugs!!)

She wanted to stop. And take a picture. I told her that only Newbies stop. We laugh at those people stopped on the side of the road. No time. You have to take the picture while moving. We have a hotel to go and check into....now!

I think she did pretty well with the photo skillz, considering it was her first attempt at photographing at high speeds. :teeth:

However, before even thinking about checking in, I had to call our "Ship's Captain" of the S.S. Maelstrom and writer of "B&B - A Viking Tale" - Sheridac to tell her I arrived safely. She was at MK, and upon receiving my call she screamed YAK into the phone. I thought maybe she was riding It's a Small World at the time and saw something that excited her! She was excited, but I think it was to hear from me!! It was like we were long lost friends.....and the first of many YAK assaults on my ears. :lmao: I told her our plans for the evening and we agreed to meet at the Hippy Dippy Pool bar later.

K was very curious about the Pop Century. I had explained that we were going to stay in a Value Resort and by Value that mean't the cheapest (inexpensive) hotel type on property. I would have loved to stay at a deluxe.

Hi, my name is YAK. And I'm a resort snob!

But, I was at POP for a few nights in July and really enjoyed it. I was very nervous that she wouldn't like it and therefore would leave a bad impression of the start to her first Disney vacation.

Once we walked through the sliding doors, K said, "Wow, this is certainly nothing like I expected"

Uh oh!

"It's really nice. No Motel 6 here...."

Whew!

Up next: Grand Gathering.....my YAK!

FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK, now back to read...and maybe Fix some spelling ;)

Back. OK, only one I simply MUST correct: coupon.

Now this:

With this description, I bet she was about to explode in excitement!! :rotfl: Who knew there were no chainlink fences? I never thought about that before. Thanks, Yak.

K was (and I assume still is) awesome. She was a great sport and a quick-study newbie. I loved watching you two together!! Please give her a shout out from That Girl Who Lost Her Voice But Yakked The Whole Time Anyway.

More, please popcorn::

I had something to say but....

it will come to me later, I guess. K, your friend, my friend, too, since we played games and stuff together. :smokin: Anywho, I am a little bit of a resort snob, but I have to say, loved POP. Nope, they left the lights on, but no Motel 6

And nice planning with the rental, thinking about passengers in advance. wise move :cheer2:

And I just bemembered YAK

Thanks everyone for reading and your comments. I should have more up tomorrow morning. (Or, later this morning)

Jami..... :rotfl2:

You know you are my spelling guru (is that spelled right?)

BUT

that one was intentional.

A little side snicker.

Because I recently bought a new comedy CD. Ron White "You can't fix Stupid" Very funny stuff, but a bit off-colour. Actually quite a bit "R" rated.
He's a redneck....and actually said, coupin! And to my Canadian ears, a Texan saying "Coupin" is really funny. Too me.

So, it fit into the story because I was driving K nuts saying.....let's rent a car, I've got a coupin. We're getting a good rate....I've got a coupin. Hey rental guy.....here's my coupin. But it was a bit out there for the actual story. :teeth:

Thanks for watching my back.....because I am a horrible spleller!

And for you.....more popcorn::

Grand Gathering.....my YAK! It was to us. But not to the G.G. Guru's at POP. Did they spend too much time at the Hippy Dippy? There are over 2,800 rooms. Couldn't they at least try to put us in the same building? That's what a G.G. is all about. Did someone at the DIS alert them to our presence???

K & I went to check in. No line up. Bonus!

I was armed with our grand gathering number provided by HaleyB, with thoughts that I'd only hear toilet flushes from my new friends. We were supposed to be all together, if not, in the same building.

As you have probably read in other TR's, this didn't happen. I was given a "great" room in the 70's as described to me by CM "SuzyHappyShoes" (She gave a new meaning to "perky") I was assured that my grand gathering party was also in the 70's and I was in fact in the "block" of rooms. Bonus! In reality some of us were in the 70's. All different buildings. I was put in "Siberia", the furthest away from the Hippy Dippy as possible.

Someone told them.

That we were planning to meet at the Hippy Dippy each night.

I believe they thought if they stuck me wwwwwaaaayyyyyyy out there, I might not be able to endure the trek to the Hippy Dippy each night. Ha, I fooled them!

As it turned out, the "block" was K & I sandwiched between two empty rooms. This was sad because one of our G.G.er's, Grammyof2 was trying to get a room for the night due to a reservations situation she had during the previous week.....but was told that the Inn was full! They must have known she was coming too!

However, I didn't know this at check in. It became apparent each time we met a new GG Maelstromer. We had to pull out the POP map and the laptop to "map quest" the room locations, so we could see where our Grand Gathering was. Spread throughout two decades as it turned out! ;)

HaleyB deserves a big "Thank You" for at least trying to take a bunch of ICF's and arrange for us to be together as a Grand Gathering. Thanks Haley!

My room, however was somewhat near another popular DISer - Disney Mommy Michelle. Sadly, I never got to meet her in person, but I know it was her room from the cool decorations on her door and window. I was so impressed, I took a photo.

Hi - DMM!

From check in we jumped in the YAK Express and drove over to our building, in Siber......70's. One good thing was that we were right beside the parking lot. I guess Magical Express alerted them and they were trying to be helpful after all ;)

We found our room, which ironically was up one floor and down the hall from our room assignment in July. Since my last visit, I heard they renamed that building, the YAK wing! I was "home" not in a DVC way, but a POP way!

We quickly dropped our things......no time for Stacey and the Top 7, yet. We were headed to MGM for our ADR at Brown Derby.

Handy tip: If you are planning a Grand Gathering, be very persistent in making sure your group is together especially if your "peeps" are checking in at different times.

Up next......Brown Derby and YAKtasmic.

Hi Yak...thanks for finding me! :)

I'm curious to know how much faster it is using a rental car at the resort. We were pretty much first timers and found the buses to be fairly quick and convenient but is it worth it to use a rental car?

I'm also wondering why they put all of you so far apart since it was a gathering? Didn't they have room in the same building or was it because ppl were arriving at different times or because you didn't want to be that close to each other?

Thanks for sharing.

This GG thingy.... I think Marita alerted the National Guard of Florida and Jeb Bush was trying to break it up before any damage was actually done. Either that or I had a hanging chad earring and Al Gore called Sheridac with secret info. Yeah, that's probably it :teeth:
