Why is it the music awards are titled the best LP or record? Haven't they stopped making them? It sounds kind of weird when all you see in the stores are CDs and a some tapes. Just doesn't seem right, but then best CD doesn't sound right either.

What are some things that don't seem quite right to you?

I guess they are records just like people buy Kleenex, not tissues. Just what they have alway called them.

Don't they usually call it "Best Album"? Album meaning a collection of songs; just like a photo album is a collection of pictures.

If so, the storage media is irrelevant.

"Best Album", yes. But album "used" to have another meaning that was important. It was a particular kind of storage that was big and is now practically extinct as far as music goes. So it's kind of strange (to me) to use that term as a measure of success when the term is no longer relevant to the music industry. Just my .02.
