Things Disney Offers But Doesn't Advertise *Summary Added Oct 08*

Any idea on how much adult hair cuts are? I'm trying to convince DBF to get his hair cut there. :cool1:

Oh yeah, the price is another cool thing. The child's haircut (and the 1st haircut is the same price) is only $12, and the adult haircut is only $18! It's the best deal at the world!

This is a staple for us when we are down there. Our boys, 10 & 7, always get their haircut down there!

Normally, we get buzz cuts, but this year, they want "longer" hair, so maybe just a trim--not sure how we'll get the Mickey on the back of the head, though! LOL....

...and remember, you can only pay with CASH--no KTTW, no CCs, no Disney GC, and no--Disney Dollars!

We found this out the hard way--no cash on hand! We had to go to City Hall to get some cash, and we missed the Barbershop Quartet! :guilty:

Oh yeah--one more thing! Make sure you go there FIRST THING WHEN THE GATES OPEN! The line gets long fast!

Last July it was $14 for kids and $17 for adults. My then 9 yr old son got the best haircut of his life there. Michal is wonderful if you luck up and get him!

I just saw the post above with different prices. I know my son's haircut was $14, and we gave a tip also, in cash. I think I read somewhere that they will take credit/debit now, but I'm not real sure about that!

The "Candy Lady" in Japan appears about three times a day Monday through Thursday. She makes beautiful rice starch candy suckers in the shape of just about any animal that you request. She picks children or adults that are standing quietly, not acting up. She will make about 4-5 suckers each session. The times are on the Epcot schedule that you receive when you enter the park. There is also a "Story Lady" that will tell a story and use adults and children from the audience to play the parts of the characters in her story. My daughter participated in both and received a button from the "Story Lady" and a sucker from the "Candy Lady" in the shape of a pink flamingo. And the best part about it is that IT'S ALL FREE!!!!!

On my last trip, I found out through another guest that you can get a character to come to your room and give you an hour back massage. It was a lot of fun. I chose Belle from beauty and the beast and my wife chose Goofy. It was a lot of fun, and the back rub was pretty good.

It cost $65 for the hour, plus tip. I highly recommend it.

:lmao: that sounds like a riot

i was actually able to get both kids candy from miyuki in just one session, as outlined in my trip report in the link in my sig. there are lots of things that help. for starters, we got there about 15 minutes before and we were able to watch the drummers. there are a few specifics i don't really get involved in out of respect to certain others, but there are definitely techniques that help. the key factor is miyuki is an artist and really needs to be treated with respect for her craft, which means the objective is not to get free candy, but to watch her make it. more often than not, people can shoot themselves in the foot by trying to convince miyuki to choose them. she chooses who she wants.

does she make candy only at certain times of the day? and what sort of candy is it? Just curious - I love watching a real "taffy pull" when the pros go at it (local festival!) They have that stuff flying around, it looks like silk ribbons when they are thru!:thumbsup2 Sorry - should have read to the end before posting!! Looks like we'll be there on Friday and miss her! Bummer:(

Yes, she does it at certain times of the day. There is a schedule out. Like they say, get their a bit early. Recall that she is Japanese and the typical American "Pick Me me me!" treatment probably is not the most effective. We smiled, we said admiring things, we did not asked to be picked, but usually one of the kids would get picked. The biggest key is to get there a bit early and be super polite. The candy is made of rice starch and sugar I believe. It is more for looking at than eating.

It's probably 8-10 inches high. The arms, legs and head snap together around a body. Building the computerized robot before this is fun though. You choose different attributes and then guide it though an obstacle course. There is a vote for best design and the order of finish in the obstacle course is posted also. It's fun, and, if the kids pay attention to the attributes of plastic, it's educational.

WOW! I just found this thread and loved what I read on the first couple of pages. I don't want to lose this thread for our upcoming trip!

Is the robot thing just for kids? DBF would love his own lil' robot! :yay:

My entire family participated and we each made a robot. (DH, DS, DD and myself). It might help to have a child with you, but I don't think they'd care.

They don't care if you have a child with you. My DH, sister, her DH and I all did it in December. It was fun. In fact, everyone chose my design as the #1 design for that group. If you don't want to participate in the building of a robot on computer and racing, you can just go straight to the area where the little plastic ones are built to build your own.

My kids did the one at CBR back in December, it was fantastic, they had a great time. And my kids are 5 and 4, but there were kids older (up to 10) on the cruise with them.

I sure wish they had this for adults... I am still a big kid at heart and would LOVE to do one of these.... LOL...:goodvibes

This has changed to the "Bayou Pirate Cruise"... and has the same theme as the other kid's pirate cruises.
