We are going to Wildwood, NJ at the end of September. It went down in the 60's here yesterday and I was cold. What am I going to do at the end of September? I'm hoping for an Indian Summer so we won't freeze, but just in case - I need some ideas for what to do at the beach when it's too cold to swim or sit in the sand?

Anybody go to the beach in the cooler weather, I would appreciate any of your tips for activities at the beach.

Thanks!:cutie:

Head down to the next exit (#0) and visit Cape May. Tons of things to do. Dozens of house and walking tours, plays, winery tours and tastings, an alpaca farm to visit, great restaurants, lovely streets for walking and bike riding. Visit the lighthouse, take a yoga class on the beach, climb the WWll tower. There's a brand new Nature Center to visit and CM is especially big in the fall for bird watching- there is a reserve there devoted to just this.

There will surely be some special events going on. There's usually some kind of an art reception at the Chalfonte- a must-see place, as well as other activities- fall is a HUGELY popular time there.

We've actually been on the beach as late as October. You just never know.

You can take the Cape May ferry from there across the Delaware Bay. Some of the boats have been renovated and are quite beautiful; sometimes there is music and a bar offered on board. Relax for the 70-minute ride. Once you get across, you can go outlet shopping in Delaware OR just stay on the boat and come back.

If thrift shopping is your thing, there's a nice new ARC in Wildwood by the ShopRite. There is also the boardwalk and the tram car. And there are some "doo wop" tours of the 50's architecture.

You can also head a few exits north and visit the gardens at Leaming's Run. Never done it but will one day.

Enjoy!

Almost forgot. Visit the Cape May Zoo (exit 10 or 11)- make sure you get back to "Africa"-- and there is Frisbee Golf there in the park- you'll have to ask exactly where as it can be a little hard to find.

:yay: Thanks! I forgot all about the Cape May Zoo. We had been there years ago. I've been down to NJ with my Mom and sisters, but this time it's the husband and kids and dogs....should be interesting.

We like to find a jutty and fish from it. When my kids were little the mere act of putting the pole in the water and collecting shells was enough to keep them entertained for hours, catching any sort of fish was a thrill.

Also, the boardwalk is much nicer.

We are going to the beach in Sept also, but not quite as late. It will be next weekend I think. I plan to sit on the beach and read my book even if it's chilly. The ocean is still pretty and relaxing. We'll be in OCMD and believe it or not, hotels are booked up. So there must be things to do, huh?

FISHING! I never even thought of that. Oh, and with the beach being so vacant, how about kite flying?? Actually, when you really think about it, the beach will be a blast without all those people. The only thing you can't (necessarily) do is swim.

Put your longjohns and a sweatshirt on and go walk the beach, it'll probably be deserted so you can have it all to yourself. Collect shells or driftwood.

Have a campfire in the evening, and roast hot dogs and marshmallows.

Do the leaves change colors there? If so, take a drive around the area and look at all the color.

Wrap yourself up in a blanket and relax on a lounger with a good book.

Sit and stare at the water, daydream....

I love the beach in the fall!
