Happy birthday to Allison!!!! I'm excited to see how your adventures in furniture painting go -- it's something I really want to try. :-)

Hi D~
Happy Birthday Allison:banana::cool1:

I have followed you for a long time and I don't post much. I know what you are going through.

My son turned 18 in December. While I am happy he is an adult and can make his own decisions, it is hard for me to let go. This week has been especially hard. He broke his collar bone Monday night playing Lacrosse. He has let his dad and I come for his appointments, he didn't have to. But it was hard sitting there and having the Dr talk directly to him and not ask me anything. He has decided to have surgery, which is scheduled for Tuesday. This was his first big decision as an adult. The Dr said based on the way the break was, he didn't have to have surgery, but it would heal better if he did. So he thought about it and made his own decision.

All we can hope for is that we raised our kids right and they will make the right decisions and love them no matter what.

Awww, hugs to you and Allison on her birthday!!! :bday:  Lots of big changes as she becomes a real "grown up" but 18 was about the time I started to get even closer to my Mom. I'm sure all of her new adventures will give you two even more to celebrate and enjoy with each other!

We're not Facebook friends...YET!! I'll find you through Mo though, I bet :) Friend request on it's way!! :cool1:

:bday: Allison!!! Many birthday wishes to her. Hope her presentation goes well for her.

Another busy week. I don't know where time goes. Hope you get the carpet done this weekend! WOOHOO on the cabinet that you got. I am sure it will come out beautiful

Happy Birthday to Allison!:lovestruc Yay for taking her out of school early!:thumbsup2 18 is such a special year!

Oh Yay! That is great news about your coffee cabinet. How nice that you were able to get it for free! looking forward to see how it looks when you paint it!:goodvibes

I hope Allison had a great birthday and you and your family had a great day!:goodvibes

Wow happy birthday to your beautiful girl!! I can't wait to see more of your craft skillz at work :) I am so impressed by such things. Enjoy the birthday dinner too!!

Happy Birthday Allison

What a bummer that Josh can't get a day off at work this week. Crossing my fingers that he will lay the carpet this weekend.

I hope you have a great day

Thank you Lillian!

Yes - it's a bummer, but we are determined to get it done this weekend, so hopefully we can.

Thanks - same to you!

My sister has a shabby chic boutique and refinishes "finds". She swears by chalk paint and her pieces come out fantastic. It can look whitewashed or more complete color depending on the look and you can layer it too. We did a thrift store and fair shopping expedition to furnish my DD new apt at Ft Hood in TX. If you want I can try to upload a before and after this weekend. If the piece you got doesn't work we have had some great luck at Restore the goodwill store that deals in construction material. Not sure if you have any near you. They have everything from toilets to bureaus.
Jane

I agree - I have seen some awesome stuff with chalk paint... I would LOVE to see pictures of anything you are willing to share! :lovestruc I've never heard of that store - we have a regular Goodwill, but not the Restore one. :scratchin

Happy birthday Allison.
What about password protecting the blog. Then you can post the link here, but people would have to get the password from you. Thus way you will know who has it.

Thanks - I will pass it along to her.

Good idea - I will talk to Allison to see if that is something she can do... She has already started writing, but nothing is published yet.

Happy birthday, Allison.
Hopefully you can get the padding laid and then the carpeting laid.
I was busy last week during my vacation. My daughter and I went down to the old girl scout camp which had been closed. The township it's in bought it and is trying to restore it. It's a beautiful place but was neglected for years after it was closed. We had fun walking around. We then went to Target and Hobby Lobby on the way home. I finally finished my bathroom curtains and raked up the leaves as stuff in the yard. Then unfortunately I caught a nasty cold that I'm still trying to shake.
I've got to finish getting read for work now so have a great day.
Liz

Thanks Liz - I will pass your wishes along to her.

I sure hope so - I think we can, if we start tonight. :scratchin

It sounds like you had a wonderful time off and enjoyed it a lot - that is great!! And yay for finishing your bathroom and getting some yard chores done... We have a list out there too... It's proving to be an ambitious spring for us. ::yes::

Thanks - I hope you had a great day!

Happy Birthday Allison!!!

Thanks! I will pass along your birthday wishes to her. :lovestruc

And WELCOME!!! Thanks for taking the time to say hello! I love it when people let me know that they are reading a long. :lovestruc

Yikes... Yes - I can see where that would be very strange... I never even thought of that. Hmmm.... :scratchin That's going to be a difficult situation when the time comes - another thing in my life that I must mentally prep for. What a big decision for your ds though - I hope his surgery goes well for him.

Exactly - I say that a lot too. :lovestruc

Again - welcome! :lovestruc

Happy Birthday to Allison!

Thanks! I will pass along your birthday wishes to her. :lovestruc

Yes - I was pretty excited. I picked it up yesterday... I am thinking maybe a semi-glossy black for it? :scratchin

I think she did? I hope she did anyways. LOL It was honestly pretty low key... We are going out for dinner on Saturday though to celebrate properly... and to be honest - a big part of it too is her trip... Sooo... LOL

*******************************************************************************************

Sigh... Well... I just know that today is not going to go like a typical day for me. I woke up at 12:30 this morning and I couldn't fall back to sleep... So I gave up at 2am - got up - tried to go back to bed at 3:30 because I was soooo tired, and again I just laid there. So... Likely no walk or exercise for me this morning - I think I am going back to bed after the girls go to school - otherwise I will not function today at all. If I can just sneak in a couple hours of sleep - then I'll probably get up to my sewing room at the time I normally do?

Yesterday was a good day... I went for a gorgeous walk in the morning, and then I worked upstairs for a good chunk of the day.

Allison came home at 1pm and picked me up - we drove back to town, where I took her to Jimmy Johns for $1 sub day. That was fun - but the line was long.

After - I dropped her back off at school and I picked V up at the same time...

V and I hung out in town... Ran a bunch of errands and passed time.

Then we all met up at Allison's class fundraiser, we had dinner there and stayed for the presentation... Then we snuck out.

We came home, Allison opened her gifts from us... To be honest - it was a very small gift year, as we are spending a good chunk of $$ on other things concerning her - thankfully, she understands completely. She did get a couple of gifts though - Josh and I got her a cute little decorative sign, also the Large Purple Punch Vera Bradley Duffel... V got her a nice travel journal that has maps and nice pockets for storing her keepsakes, and also a nice set of pens to write in it with. And then V and I found a cute cactus while we were running errands yesterday - so we gave that to her as well, she named him "Irwin"... My girl and the naming of her items... :scratchin

All in all - I think she had a very nice birthday.

Today - as I said above - I am going back to bed.

Then I will work upstairs all day. I have NO plans to go anywhere or do anything today... I need to work and catch up - so I can help Josh with the carpet this weekend, which means I will probably work late today too.

I am thinking that I will paint the little coffee cabinet a semi-glossy black... I know that it's kind of un-inventive... But my kitchen is red and (going to be) light tan - I think a black cabinet will look good on a light tan wall? :scratchin Even though - all of my other furniture is a semi formal wood... Sigh.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Prayers and Pixie Dust to all of you! :lovestruc

D~

I'm glad Allison had a good birthday!

I hope you get some rest.

And I think the black with go great with the red and tan!

Hey there.. Just hopping around the Dis and catching up!!
Well you did have a little insight in how wood floors go with the clicking of your puppies toe nails! and the echo's of talking..
Can't wait to see the carpet and HOPE all things go as planned now! isn't it always the case when you start a LITTLE project always turns out a full blown rehab!

I hope Allison had a wonderful Magical birthday and i do want to read all about her journey!!!
Only imagine the pictures she will get..

I LOVE that thing in your basement.. but then again.. I like that stuff.

Have a great weekend!

All in all - I think she had a very nice birthday.
Sounds like Allison had a nice birthday!

It sounds like Allison had a lovely birthday. :-) I hope you're able to get some additional sleep today. I've had trouble sleeping this week, too -- perhaps there's something in the air? Who knows. It's so frustrating, though, to lay in bed and not be able to sleep.

I think black would be great for the little coffee cabinet.

I hope you get some sleep today.

Sounds like Allison had a good birthday :)

Yesterday I went to the airport to find out how the battery for my electrical wheel has to be backed for a flight. I had the battery with me and showed the lady the battery. The first thing she said was that we don't take electrical bikes on the plane. I tried to explain that it wasn't an electric bike but for a wheelchair. She said but it says electric bike on the battery. Yes but it also say that the battery is approved for flying. She just continued to say that it says it's electric bike battery. I answered I can see that but it is for my wheelchair. She then gave in and told me to pack the battery in my hand luggage. I then went buy security to ask if I would get the battery through security. I was told that it was not a problem getting it through security. So now I'm wondering if we are going to be stopped at check in because they believe I'm bringing an electrical bike. :headache:
Crossing my fingers that everything goes smooth at check in 1 1\2 week.

I'm glad Allison had a good birthday!! No matter how old they are, they will always be our babies, My baby had a birthday last week and was 34!!

It sounds like Allison had a great birthday!

Hopefully you were able to catch up on sleep today. It's the worst when you wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep.

Yes - I think she did. :)

I tried... LOL My body just didn't want to sleep yesterday.

Thanks - I am thinking that too... And what do I have to lose??? I can always paint over it again. LOL

Hahaha... Yes - it was so echo-y in there when we didn't have carpet down... I say that in past tense, but as of this moment, we still don't have carpet down... Hopefully by the end of the day, we will though.

I am not sure that anything could crop up now, as we are in the process of putting everything back together... Fingers crossed. ::yes::

Yah - it's creepy... The next time you come - I will show it to you.

Thanks - you too, my friend... Love you and miss you terribly! :lovestruc

Sounds like Allison had a nice birthday!

That sounds really nice!

I think she did!

Thanks! I hope so. :)

I think black would be great for the little coffee cabinet.

I think so... She seemed happy with her day.

I tried to sleep - but didn't actually get a nap until about 3pm... It was a good nap though and it helped. Maybe there is? It's so frustrating though.

I think so too - I am pretty excited about it! I really want to get to work painting, but I need to have the dresser outside first, and that won't happen until the living room is done - so I will have to wait. But I can't wait to get it totally done!

I hope you get some sleep today.

Sounds like Allison had a good birthday

Thanks Lillian - I tried.

:headache: Ugh - how frustrating!!! I just cannot believe that! I sure hope it works out, it's not as if you haven't tried everything to make them aware of it.

I hope you have a nice weekend.

I'm glad Allison had a good birthday!! No matter how old they are, they will always be our babies, My baby had a birthday last week and was 34!!

I was able to sneak in a nap, so that was good... It took me 2 tries though. It's so frustrating, for sure.

I hope you have a nice weekend!

***************************************************************************************

So, yesterday, I didn't work out - just like I said I wasn't going to. ::yes:: I went back upstairs to bed, and I laid there for an hour, with no luck.

So, I got up and went to work. I was able to get a lot done and I put in a full day - which was good, as I am a bit behind from taking Monday off.

I decided to run to town and pick the girls up from school, since I had a few things to get anyways.

When we got home, I went upstairs to try for a nap again - and success... :woohoo: I slept hard for 2 hours! Definitely needed that!

We didn't do any work on the house last night... Oh, I shouldn't say that. I did. I put the first coat of clear coat on the other 2 windows yesterday morning, and then after my nap yesterday, I sanded them both down and put a 2nd coat on them. I will have Josh look at them today and determine if we should put a 3rd coat on.

Believe it or not, I was in bed by 9pm and slept through the night. Thankfully!

Today - well, we have a busy day in front of us...

Allison and I are venturing up into the Cities to drop V off at her college class this morning...

Then Allison and I will run errands... Top of the list is to get paint - all sorts of paint... I need the lighter shade of our living room, for the wall on the opposite side in the kitchen/dining area, I need a big bucket of Kilz primer, I need a half-gallon for our front door (I still haven't decided on a color yet - hope to do that today), I need the chalk paint for the media console and also another for the little cabinet, I need water based clear coat for those two items, and knobs too - if I can find any... We are getting down to the bottom of the barrel on our budgeted $$ for this project... So I want to make sure I get all of these items today. I am hoping that we will still have enough $$ left over after paint is purchased for a new ceiling fan in the kitchen/dining area and possibly some left over to get paint for the downstairs bathroom too... :scratchin Then, I also have other stuff I'd like to do, which I haven't mentioned - but that will come later... We are so focused on finishing the living room this weekend, then moving on to the kitchen.

While Allison and I are running errands and buying paint, Josh will be home here laying carpet. He rented a carpet stretcher for the day... So, by the end of today - I WILL have carpet in my living room. ::yes:: :woohoo:

After I pick V up from school - we will all come home and we will help Josh with whatever he needs help with to finish up.

We are all going out for dinner tonight to celebrate Allison's birthday. :lovestruc

Tomorrow - it's baseboards and curtain rods. Then, this week, I can hang all of the curtains and get them hemmed. I will also be laying out all of my decor, and hopefully my neighbor will come over and help me decide which pieces are going on which walls - I think that will be the hardest part for me - trying to figure out placement. Thanks to Pinterest, I have some GREAT ideas - and I cannot wait to get them all up. ::yes::

I also hope to get our new/old media console hauled downstairs, so I can start working on prepping that for paint on the evenings during this week.

So, that's about all... Our weekend is full - but I am seeing a huge light at the end of the tunnel here, and I cannot WAIT to have my living room back! :woohoo:

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Prayers and pixie dust to all of you! :lovestruc

D~

I hope you get your living room finished today. That will be so awesome after eight years of waiting. :)

Have fun picking out paint today. Hopefully your get everything put back together soon. It sounds like it's going to look great when you're done.
I have to finish getting ready for work.
Have a great day.
Liz
