Sounds like you had a nice day with BFF
I'm sorry to hear the shag isn't as shaggy as my brain remembers/wanted it to be on the carpet. Hopefully it will be nice when you get it on the floor.
The changing of the flight is a mess. The guy that promised to call med back never did. So I called the airline again on Saturday and got the message that everything was ok and that the guy would call me back. No one called me back. So today I called again. I had to tell the whole story again and the guy on the phone said he would send a new confirmation. And then he just hang up. That wasn't very nice. I got a new confirmation and on the confirmation both the flight I booked from and booked to was on there. So I had to call back again. Then I was put on hold and then after a few minutes the phone just hang up. So I had to call back again. This time I got to talk to yet another guy. This time a friendly one. Once again I explained it all and once again I was set on hold. This time the guy came back to me and said that now everything should be fixed and I will receive a new confirmation. So now I'm crossing my fingers that everything is correct.
Thanks Lillian!

I sure hope everything goes OK with the airlines - fingers crossed for you!
Thanks for the information on cisterns. They probably worked very well in the days before municipal water was piped to houses. But I wouldn't want one under my house. It's a good thing your cistern looks nice and dry. Was your living room once a porch?
Yah - I can't say that I love having it under my house either. I used to have dreams about it before we actually moved in here... but to be honest - it's just been another storage room for us, and it works out wonderfully for that.
As far as we know - there was never a porch there... And as far as we know - this house has always been this size and shape. Josh seems to think that the kitchen wing of our house is newer than the living room portion (where the cistern is) - but I've gone back in City records and on plat maps as far as they go, and everything I've read tells me that this house was always the current existing structure, with out any additions - with exception to the very small one we rebuilt for the basement steps - I suspect, at one point in time, the basement was only accessible by an outdoor cellar door, but we now have steps from inside the house. So, no, I don't think that the cistern was ever under a front porch... Maybe in warmer climates - that could be very typical, but in MN - I suspect there could be issues with a cistern freezing if it was under a porch? That could be the reason it was put under the house instead? Not sure - just thinking out loud.
The living room looks great! Your poor kitchen/dining areas. I would go nuts with that mess. That is one thing about home projects, you have stuff all over the place, and it always leads to another thing to do. Josh did an awesome job leveling out the floor. Can't wait to see it all pulled together. I just love old homes and wonder about the history of the family (or families) that lived there.
So glad tax season is now over. I was exhausted last week. Our weather here has finally warmed up. We hit the 80's on Sunday!!!
Have a fabulous day!
Thank you - I am very much going nuts like you wouldn't believe. I am very much a person who needs open space around them, and this is definitely not that. I've been working hard at not thinking about it and trying to make the best of the situation so it doesn't bother me as much - also trying to remind myself how great this house will look when we are finished. I am pretty sure that it will be the first time ever, that I've really liked my house - even a little bit. So, that will be a totally new feeling to me.
We are trying so hard to keep our focus ONLY on the project at hand - and we are doing a very good job at that. It's so hard not to wander off and work on other projects that need to be done too - but we are forcing ourselves to see this one through completion and it's paying off - I could not be more thrilled with our progress or the current outcome. Because, believe me - we have a very LONG to-do list before Allison's Open House in ~um~ 8 weeks... But - if we truly stay focused, I really think we can make a huge dent in it.
I am glad it's over for you - Typically, we have our taxes filed and done at the very beginning of Feb... This year - we did not get them filed until this last Sunday!

That was very stressful for me, because I was so worried we'd forget about them while we were wrapped up in the living room project. But they are done and filed - so phew! I hope you get a well deserved break!

And enjoy the spring weather!
Woo Hoo! Carpet soon, then the fun of decorating begins! Do you have any junk/antique/flea markets stores in your area? In our area that is where we can find cheap furniture... Or what about yard sales?
Yay for days off with BFF! You deserve it.
Thanks for asking about my Sister, she is doing well. DH & I are in Florida picking up our car, we may have to stop by you know where :car
I am going to try & tag you on Facebook to a link of a girl who refinished furniture, she is awesome at it!
Have a great day!
Monica
Yes - I cannot wait! We do have a few antique stores in town, thanks for the reminder - I haven't even thought about visiting those. I may have time to do that today? Thanks for the idea! Yard sales are in full swing in the coming weeks - so I'll be watching for those too... Hoping to find a cabinet for my coffee nook and also a cute end table to paint.
I am so glad your sister is doing OK.

Oooh and jealous that you are picking up your car... If you had needed someone to do that for you - I would have been happy to step in... Hahahaha.
That would be really cool! I need all the help and inspiration I can get with this project! I can see it becoming very addicting though!
Thanks Monica - same to you! As always, I love seeing you here! Take care, my friend - and looking forward to seeing you soon!
Sorry I've been MIA -- family came in for a visit. Your making great progress on having the living room done -- I know you'll be so excited and so in love with it when it gets finished!!!
I hope you had a great time with your family! It's always nice to have visitors - although it can get stressful.
Thanks - I cannot wait to see it done! I hope it will be nice - LOL - I can *see* it being nice, but I hope in reality it turns out that way. LOL
It's great to see you back!
It's great you enjoyed a nice day with BFF!
Sorry the carpet isn't exactly what you pictured, but I hope you like it more once it gets laid on the floor.
Today is another nice day, enjoy the walk, I may do the same!
Enjoy the rest of your day!
Yes - it was a lot of fun! We don't do it often enough these days. Both of us are just so busy with different things.
Yah - I am a bit bummed about it... It's not terrible, but just not exactly what I wanted... I looked again last night at the store - and what I really wanted was much more expensive and I doubt it would have survived a week in this house with the dogs... So, I consoled myself by saying that I got the best we could afford to get with out going into debt for it - and the dogs will have wrecked anything better. LOL So, we'll just go with that. LOL
I did get my walk in yesterday - it felt good.

I really need to add it back into my routine once in a while... Sometimes I just get in a rut of using my videos all the time.
Thanks - same to you!
- Hey! It's been a while but all caught up. As far as your cabinet search.... download the app letitgo. It's been awesome for us! Type in what your looking for and it will show stuff closest to you. Between that and look at our local town rummage sale Facebook pages? We have bought alot of wonderful used items we normally would just go to a store and buy. We have a running list of what we're looking for.... right now we're looking for a large extendable ladder, ramps for our riding lawn mower to do our own oil changes, blade sharpening.... and we're looking for cheap dressers ourself. Check it out!
- So excited for your daughters Europe trip. She is one lucky girl for such a once on a lifetime experience. Just think. This could be the spark that makes her a world traveler! How amazing!
Hey there! It's great to see you back!
Ooooh - excellent idea! I joined some of the Facebook garage sale pages that are local this morning - I'd completely forgotten about those! I sure hope you are able to find what you are looking for!
Thanks - I know - she is very lucky, and she is very well aware of that. LOL I think here world traveler spark was lit long ago... She is like me, and enjoys traveling so much... She is very much looking forward to spending more time in Amsterdam and revisiting some of the places we visited a few years ago.

And not to mention doing all of the fun things that she will get to experience, just by being there for so long. This will be a trip of a lifetime for her, for sure.
Again - welcome back! It's great to see you here again!
Wow...just getting caught up around here. That's crazy about the floor and all the work you had to do to fix it. But these things do happen with old houses...sigh. Not much you can do about it unfortunately. What is lucky is that you guys are so handy!! We would have had to pay someone a gazillion dollars to have what you guys did yourselves done in addition to the costs for the carpets etc...we are lucky if we can change our own lightbulbs around here lol...and some of those we can't even do ourselves lol!! It's gonna look amazing!
Yah - sometimes this house really throws us for a surprise. We are very fortunate that Josh used to restore old houses when he was a general contractor - it's something he enjoys doing very much - but he had to move on to other things when he came home from Iraq, because his body just couldn't handle the hard work anymore. So, we purchased this house, knowing he could do the work himself - which is a huge plus... There are very few, if any, things he cannot do that are house related. Cars and mechanics are a whole different story though.

We all have our strengths.

I just cannot wait to have this completely done, so we can move on to finishing the next project.
Thanks for stopping by - I hope you are well, it was great seeing you!

I wish I had time for an update this morning, but I need to run!
I hope you all have a great day - prayers and pixie dust to all!
