Woo Hoo! Carpet soon :yay:, then the fun of decorating begins! Do you have any junk/antique/flea markets stores in your area? In our area that is where we can find cheap furniture... Or what about yard sales?

:cheer2: Yay for days off with BFF! You deserve it.

Thanks for asking about my Sister, she is doing well. DH & I are in Florida picking up our car, we may have to stop by you know where :car:pixiedust:.

I am going to try & tag you on Facebook to a link of a girl who refinished furniture, she is awesome at it! :artist:

Have a great day!

Monica

Sorry I've been MIA -- family came in for a visit. Your making great progress on having the living room done -- I know you'll be so excited and so in love with it when it gets finished!!!

It's great you enjoyed a nice day with BFF!

Sorry the carpet isn't exactly what you pictured, but I hope you like it more once it gets laid on the floor.

Today is another nice day, enjoy the walk, I may do the same!

Enjoy the rest of your day!

  • Hey! It's been a while but all caught up. As far as your cabinet search.... download the app letitgo. It's been awesome for us! Type in what your looking for and it will show stuff closest to you. Between that and look at our local town rummage sale Facebook pages? We have bought alot of wonderful used items we normally would just go to a store and buy. We have a running list of what we're looking for.... right now we're looking for a large extendable ladder, ramps for our riding lawn mower to do our own oil changes, blade sharpening.... and we're looking for cheap dressers ourself. Check it out!
  • So excited for your daughters Europe trip. She is one lucky girl for such a once on a lifetime experience. Just think. This could be the spark that makes her a world traveler! How amazing!

Wow...just getting caught up around here. That's crazy about the floor and all the work you had to do to fix it. But these things do happen with old houses...sigh. Not much you can do about it unfortunately. What is lucky is that you guys are so handy!! We would have had to pay someone a gazillion dollars to have what you guys did yourselves done in addition to the costs for the carpets etc...we are lucky if we can change our own lightbulbs around here lol...and some of those we can't even do ourselves lol!! It's gonna look amazing!

Sounds like you had a nice day with BFF

I'm sorry to hear the shag isn't as shaggy as my brain remembers/wanted it to be on the carpet. Hopefully it will be nice when you get it on the floor.

The changing of the flight is a mess. The guy that promised to call med back never did. So I called the airline again on Saturday and got the message that everything was ok and that the guy would call me back. No one called me back. So today I called again. I had to tell the whole story again and the guy on the phone said he would send a new confirmation. And then he just hang up. That wasn't very nice. I got a new confirmation and on the confirmation both the flight I booked from and booked to was on there. So I had to call back again. Then I was put on hold and then after a few minutes the phone just hang up. So I had to call back again. This time I got to talk to yet another guy. This time a friendly one. Once again I explained it all and once again I was set on hold. This time the guy came back to me and said that now everything should be fixed and I will receive a new confirmation. So now I'm crossing my fingers that everything is correct.

Thanks Lillian! :lovestruc I sure hope everything goes OK with the airlines - fingers crossed for you! :lovestruc

Thanks for the information on cisterns. They probably worked very well in the days before municipal water was piped to houses. But I wouldn't want one under my house. It's a good thing your cistern looks nice and dry. Was your living room once a porch?

Yah - I can't say that I love having it under my house either. I used to have dreams about it before we actually moved in here... but to be honest - it's just been another storage room for us, and it works out wonderfully for that.

As far as we know - there was never a porch there... And as far as we know - this house has always been this size and shape. Josh seems to think that the kitchen wing of our house is newer than the living room portion (where the cistern is) - but I've gone back in City records and on plat maps as far as they go, and everything I've read tells me that this house was always the current existing structure, with out any additions - with exception to the very small one we rebuilt for the basement steps - I suspect, at one point in time, the basement was only accessible by an outdoor cellar door, but we now have steps from inside the house. So, no, I don't think that the cistern was ever under a front porch... Maybe in warmer climates - that could be very typical, but in MN - I suspect there could be issues with a cistern freezing if it was under a porch? That could be the reason it was put under the house instead? Not sure - just thinking out loud. :)

The living room looks great! Your poor kitchen/dining areas. I would go nuts with that mess. That is one thing about home projects, you have stuff all over the place, and it always leads to another thing to do. Josh did an awesome job leveling out the floor. Can't wait to see it all pulled together. I just love old homes and wonder about the history of the family (or families) that lived there.

So glad tax season is now over. I was exhausted last week. Our weather here has finally warmed up. We hit the 80's on Sunday!!!

Have a fabulous day!

Thank you - I am very much going nuts like you wouldn't believe. I am very much a person who needs open space around them, and this is definitely not that. I've been working hard at not thinking about it and trying to make the best of the situation so it doesn't bother me as much - also trying to remind myself how great this house will look when we are finished. I am pretty sure that it will be the first time ever, that I've really liked my house - even a little bit. So, that will be a totally new feeling to me.

We are trying so hard to keep our focus ONLY on the project at hand - and we are doing a very good job at that. It's so hard not to wander off and work on other projects that need to be done too - but we are forcing ourselves to see this one through completion and it's paying off - I could not be more thrilled with our progress or the current outcome. Because, believe me - we have a very LONG to-do list before Allison's Open House in ~um~ 8 weeks... But - if we truly stay focused, I really think we can make a huge dent in it. :thumbsup2

I am glad it's over for you - Typically, we have our taxes filed and done at the very beginning of Feb... This year - we did not get them filed until this last Sunday! That was very stressful for me, because I was so worried we'd forget about them while we were wrapped up in the living room project. But they are done and filed - so phew! I hope you get a well deserved break! :lovestruc And enjoy the spring weather!

Yes - I cannot wait! We do have a few antique stores in town, thanks for the reminder - I haven't even thought about visiting those. I may have time to do that today? Thanks for the idea! Yard sales are in full swing in the coming weeks - so I'll be watching for those too... Hoping to find a cabinet for my coffee nook and also a cute end table to paint. ::yes::

I am so glad your sister is doing OK. :lovestruc Oooh and jealous that you are picking up your car... If you had needed someone to do that for you - I would have been happy to step in... Hahahaha. :scratchin

That would be really cool! I need all the help and inspiration I can get with this project! I can see it becoming very addicting though!

Thanks Monica - same to you! As always, I love seeing you here! Take care, my friend - and looking forward to seeing you soon! :lovestruc

I hope you had a great time with your family! It's always nice to have visitors - although it can get stressful. :scratchin

Thanks - I cannot wait to see it done! I hope it will be nice - LOL - I can *see* it being nice, but I hope in reality it turns out that way. LOL

It's great to see you back!

Yes - it was a lot of fun! We don't do it often enough these days. Both of us are just so busy with different things.

Yah - I am a bit bummed about it... It's not terrible, but just not exactly what I wanted... I looked again last night at the store - and what I really wanted was much more expensive and I doubt it would have survived a week in this house with the dogs... So, I consoled myself by saying that I got the best we could afford to get with out going into debt for it - and the dogs will have wrecked anything better. LOL So, we'll just go with that. LOL

I did get my walk in yesterday - it felt good. :lovestruc I really need to add it back into my routine once in a while... Sometimes I just get in a rut of using my videos all the time.

Thanks - same to you! :lovestruc

Hey there! It's great to see you back! :lovestruc

Ooooh - excellent idea! I joined some of the Facebook garage sale pages that are local this morning - I'd completely forgotten about those! I sure hope you are able to find what you are looking for!

Thanks - I know - she is very lucky, and she is very well aware of that. LOL I think here world traveler spark was lit long ago... She is like me, and enjoys traveling so much... She is very much looking forward to spending more time in Amsterdam and revisiting some of the places we visited a few years ago. :lovestruc And not to mention doing all of the fun things that she will get to experience, just by being there for so long. This will be a trip of a lifetime for her, for sure.

Again - welcome back! It's great to see you here again! :lovestruc

Yah - sometimes this house really throws us for a surprise. We are very fortunate that Josh used to restore old houses when he was a general contractor - it's something he enjoys doing very much - but he had to move on to other things when he came home from Iraq, because his body just couldn't handle the hard work anymore. So, we purchased this house, knowing he could do the work himself - which is a huge plus... There are very few, if any, things he cannot do that are house related. Cars and mechanics are a whole different story though. :scratchin We all have our strengths. ::yes:: I just cannot wait to have this completely done, so we can move on to finishing the next project. ::yes::

Thanks for stopping by - I hope you are well, it was great seeing you! :lovestruc

I wish I had time for an update this morning, but I need to run!

I hope you all have a great day - prayers and pixie dust to all! :lovestruc

The living room is coming along nicely. I can't wait to see the finished product! Allison's trip sounds amazing!! I can't wait to see her blog (if you decide to post it of course). Really though, it is a life changing trip. I wish I had done something like that when I was younger and could do it. Good luck finding the coffee cabinet. Garage sale season is starting soon, so I'm sure you'll find something soon.

I hope you have a great day :)

I had to call the airline AGAIN today :headache: They told me everything looks OK and that I should receive an email today with the confirmation. If I don't get the e-mail today I have to call again tomorrow. :headache:

I fell behind a few days, but all caught up again :) Nice progress with the living room!! I love the historical aspect of your house--that cistern is creepy but kind of awesome!!

And let's not even get started on how jealous I am that Allison is going to Disneyland Paris!!!!! AAAHHHH! How AMAZING! She is so lucky to have these experiences. I hope she takes a million pictures (and you share them here, of course ;) ) It would be wonderful to hear all about her adventures!

Hi D~ Exciting renovation completion on the horizon. I vote for a red bureau for the TV (maybe even with a hidden little mickey shadow)!
Wow on A's exciting European adventure. Trip of a lifetime
V taking college classes on the weekends is also just fantastic. That girl has some talent. Bet she would paint that little hidden mickey for you. Oh wait - silly me you can do that too can't you????

Your next trip is August right? My daughter Katie and I are meeting there the end of September. Can't wait to get back. Hope you have a productive weekend.

I know - I am so excited for her, terrified at the same time, but mostly excited. She will definitely be doing a blog... I have not decided if I will post it here, but I will be posting it on FB because there I know who can see it... Are we friends there?

Thanks!!! I think I have found one! I'll tell about it below! ::yes::

I hope you have a great day

Yes - we've been working very hard... I am very excited to have it finished - I am hoping the bulk of it will be done this weekend. As it turns out, Josh won't be able to take any time off of work this week - so it likely won't be touched until this weekend. Oh well.

Hehehe... Yes - it's so creepy... But it doesn't bother me too much anymore - I just don't think about it.

I know - I am a bit jealous about the whole trip, actually... I will be sharing the link to her blog on FB, are we friends there?

Enjoy your day! It is a little chilly in NY, but I hope your weather is still decent!

Thanks - I had a good day... It was a Target day, so meh... LOL But the weather was OK and I was busy all day - so that's good. ::yes:: I hope you had a great day too!

WOW I got not only 1 not only 2 but 9 e-mails from the airline confirming my flight change. Now I can finally relax.

WAHOO!!!! :woohoo: That is awesome! And what a relief!

Hi Jane!!!! It's great to see you back on the Dis!

Hehehehe... Red is definitely in the running for colors... I have not 100% decided yet, but it's being considered for sure. ::yes:: Hehehehe on the HMH shadow... It's a great idea! :scratchin

Yes - I am super excited for her! I cannot believe she is going - rips my heart out if I really think about the fact of how long she will be gone... But I am very excited about all of the things she will see and do. :lovestruc

Yup - LOL - she could... :scratchin I think that's a great idea - I just need to have some painting skills first. LOL

Exciting!!! That will be so much fun! As far as I know, my next trip is in October... We have some pretty exciting plans, including Universal & MNSSHP! I cannot wait to be in WDW for the Halloween decorations again - it's my favorite time of the year to be there. :lovestruc

It was great to see you! I hope your trip planning is going well?

***********************************************************************************************

Sorry for the fly by yesterday... But it was a Target day and I was running really late. ::yes::

Soooo... First things first... Today is Allison's 18th birthday! Can you all believe it? Many of you have been watching her grow up here on The Dis for years... It's hard for me to believe that she is "officially" a grown-up. But forever, she will be my baby!

PhotoPass_Visiting_Magic_Kingdom_Park_7583269191.jpg

Soooo... Today will be a very bittersweet day for me. :lovestruc

Yesterday - well, it was a Target day... After work, I dropped V off at our old neighbor's house. While I was dropping her off - her garage was open, and I spied a cute little cabinet in there... So I went and checked it out - it looked to be almost perfect for my coffee nook. So, I told V to ask Shanna if she was getting rid of it - and if so, how much she wanted for it - as it looked to be in a pile that was either coming or going... :scratchin Later in the evening - V texted me - Shanna said I could just have it! :woohoo: Awesome! It's a bit more "rustic" than what I was looking for - but it might be the perfect piece to practice my new/non-existent painting skills on? :scratchin

Speaking of "painting skills"... I made the HUGE mistake of joining several private FB groups centered around furniture painting.... Bad, bad, bad... Guess what my night consisted of? :scratchin LOL

Josh was able to lay down the tacking strips for the carpet last night... He was also going to lay the pad, but Cooper was so hyper last night, there was no way we could lay it without him wrecking all of it... So, we opted out of that idea. It's looking like Josh won't be able to take any time off of work at all this week - so the carpet laying will have to wait until the weekend. Which is a bummer - I was hoping to be DONE this weekend - completely done. Soooo....

Today... I will be going for a walk right away this morning and then headed up to my sewing room... I will work diligently for a few hours, and then I think I am going to go bust Allison out of school early and take her out for lunch. :scratchin

She has a service project she has been working on for school and tonight is her presentation - so rather than doing our "customary birthday dinner" - we will be doing this instead... We will reschedule her birthday dinner for sometime over the weekend. :thumbsup2

That's about it. I doubt we will do anything with the living room tonight? I am hoping we can lay the pad tomorrow night though - so we can get a jump start on carpet for Saturday.

I hope you all have a wonderful day! Pixie dust to all!

D~

Happy Birthday Allison :bday:

What a bummer that Josh can't get a day off at work this week. Crossing my fingers that he will lay the carpet this weekend.

I hope you have a great day

My sister has a shabby chic boutique and refinishes "finds". She swears by chalk paint and her pieces come out fantastic. It can look whitewashed or more complete color depending on the look and you can layer it too. We did a thrift store and fair shopping expedition to furnish my DD new apt at Ft Hood in TX. If you want I can try to upload a before and after this weekend. If the piece you got doesn't work we have had some great luck at Restore the goodwill store that deals in construction material. Not sure if you have any near you. They have everything from toilets to bureaus.
Jane

I know - I am so excited for her, terrified at the same time, but mostly excited. She will definitely be doing a blog... I have not decided if I will post it here, but I will be posting it on FB because there I know who can see it... Are we friends there?
Happy birthday Allison.
What about password protecting the blog. Then you can post the link here, but people would have to get the password from you. Thus way you will know who has it.

Happy birthday, Allison.
Hopefully you can get the padding laid and then the carpeting laid.
I was busy last week during my vacation. My daughter and I went down to the old girl scout camp which had been closed. The township it's in bought it and is trying to restore it. It's a beautiful place but was neglected for years after it was closed. We had fun walking around. We then went to Target and Hobby Lobby on the way home. I finally finished my bathroom curtains and raked up the leaves as stuff in the yard. Then unfortunately I caught a nasty cold that I'm still trying to shake.
I've got to finish getting read for work now so have a great day.
Liz

Happy Birthday to such a sweet & beautiful girl! :bday: :flower1: :daisy:pixiedust: :rockband: Good Luck on the Presentation!

Have a great day D~ breaking A out of school early sounds FUN party:
