~~ They're leaving the nest, sew it's time for a trip - or two - or three...~~ D~'s bag ~9/22 ~~

Good morning!

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better! Why is it that men are such babies when they get sick? Sorry guys but it's true! Scotty gets sick and it's team end of the world as we know it.

I had Loren my son in for an exam over the weekend because the big goof broke his glasses. Kacy managed to super glue them so he has his to wear until the new ones are ready. His new prescription is much stronger than the old one. Poor kids are cursed with having parents with bad eyes so they do too.

Enjoy your sun today!

When we go away, we board the dogs at a place that also does doggy day care, so the dogs get to play all day. We just switched from petshotel at petsmart to camp bow wow which has an indoor and outdoor run for the dogs. Only think is at petshotel we only had them play every other day, at camp bow wow they can play everyday so it winds up costing more than.

Real quick... I wanted to let you all know that I did a Healthy Living update on the first page. :lovestruc

D~

Sounds like a busy day. I hope you get some sun. I sure would like to do that...it's supposed to be 70 here as well (our rain doesn't come until tonight and tomorrow).

Glad you are feeling better. Hope Alli gets plenty of rest on her time off from school. Winter just does not want to go away here. Woke up to another dusting of snow this morning, and it was on 25 degrees. I have to admit I am starting to grumpy about it. I just want to stop wearing my winter boots and jacket. So enjoy your 70 degrees today.
Read your Healthy Living Update. You look fantastic!!! Your dedication has really paid off.
Saw your new bag on FB. Another adorable one!! I can see why you had so much fun making it.
Have a fabulous day in the warm sun!!!

Glad to hear your feeling better! Wonder what that was.....

Sweet puppy pictures. You need to video Max when he first interacts with Cooper.. I bet it's going to be a hoot!

Have a wonderful productive awesome day!

I am sorry Allison is still not feeling better. I am glad I had mono over summer. I love the puppy pictures.

Ugh!! I can't believe I missed the link to your new PTR. I just got done reading all 13 pages!! I love reading your PTR's and TR's. It gets me through the wait until our next trip. We are going to be at WDW for my son's HS graduation trip in March 2017. Hopefully Aulani and DL in 2016.

The puppies are adorable!! You look amazing!!! Glad you're feeling better!!

Took a glance at your Healthy Living update. You look like a teenager in the March 2015 pic!!!!!!!!! You have done such a great transformation!!!!!!:worship:

A has to feel better.. this sick thing is really taking TOOOO LONG! the puppies are the cutest on the planet
How is the hedgehog?

I know... She was feeling better last night. Thankfully... HOpefully this time it lasts... I feel like we've been through this before. :scratchin

I know... I cannot wait to finally meet them this weekend!

Lottie is good... She doesn't come out very much. Sadly, she isn't a very social hedgie. And ever since she bit me last summer - I am a bit terrified of her... It really hurt! We had her out the other night to play though. :lovestruc

I had an eye exam last night. I got new glasses last year but since I wear contacts they should last me many years. I only wear my glasses for an hour in the morning and an hour at night. The eye doctor bumped me up one level on my prescription and I can definitely see a little better far distance. Boy though my close vision is a mess this morning, everything on my computer is blurry. He did warn me that might happen so it looks like I will be going back to the old prescription and living with a little blurriness on far distances.

Yikes - I hate new glasses, I hate old glasses. LOL My prescription changed - for the better. So, I hate to get glasses if my eyes are better - I never wear the ones I have. :scratchin

I have always kenneled mine. The first kennel I used I loved because they had huge indoor outdoor runs and my then dogs LOVED the place. But it was quite a haul from my house (45 min...with two 100lb+ dogs in the car at the time got to be quite much). The place I kennel now I found when we had a house fire 6 years ago. It was right before 4th of July and I was having a hard time finding someplace to kennel them (everyone was booked, and we were in a hotel). My vet suggested this place, said they helped a lot of folks out that headed here after Katrina. So we got to know them pretty well since the dogs ended up being kenneled there for 4 months. It is also very close to home. So I was able to visit the pups daily at that time (once we got in a rental house for that period). And they have gotten to know the new pups too.(the other two I ended up having to put down both within 6 months of each other)The big dog has some issues that we have to work on before we can feel comfortable leaving him with the Pirate Fairy. But she will start coming to the house this week. And if it does not work out we will kennel them.

Have a good day!

Lynn

It sounds like you have a good plan. Wow - and you were lucky to find this kennel when you needed one.

Thanks - you too!

I am finally all caught up.

Puppies! I am speechless, they are too cute. I don't know how you would get anything done all day.

A huge and sincere congratulations to your weight loss. I took a peak at your blog and then saw your last photo, I think my jaw literally dropped! Just incredible.

Jonah is doing so well, thank you for asking. He is such a flirt, I have other moms tell me all the time I am in trouble. It's adorable and scary at the same time!

I started working part-time after our January trip last year and had to step away from the DIS to figure out the whole work/life balance. We are hoping (wishing) for a November trip.

Sorry if this is getting too long, but I bought my first vintage sewing machine in November and after looking at Patience, I think my machine maybe her distant relative. They look very similar! I love mine, it glides through upholstery fabric like no other.

Hahaha... I probably won't get anything done for a while - not until it's potty trained. I remember taking a full week with MM, just concentrating on potty training, but after a few days - he's been perfect since.

Thanks! It's been several years now that I've been working on this... And I've been taking it slow and steady... I still have my hard days/weeks, but I feel so much better!

Hehehehe... Jonah has always been a heartbreaker!

I totally understand... I hope you are able to get a November trip... please let me know if you do, and our trips align - I'd love to finally meet you!

Nah - no one's replies are ever too long... Congratulations on your vintage machine! I love both of mine! It is possible our machines are related... Can you post a picture? Yes, vintage machines are well known about sewing through anything... I don't think I could make the things I make on a modern machine? A modern machine wouldn't be able to handle it. Congrats though! This is so awesome!

Again - welcome back - it's great to see you here again!

Thanks - me too... Just a few nagging sneezes now n' then... otherwise - mostly normal. :thumbsup2

Hehehe... Men are such babies when they are sick... The girls and I can be sick all day long, but if Josh gets it, man - we run for the hills... Just a little sniffle will put him in bed for days. It's no wonder they can't give birth. LOL Josh wouldn't never be able to handle it. <--- Sorry guys... This is just my experience... I am sure there are stronger men out there - I just don't know one. Hehehe

Awwww... That's a bummer. I honestly think that glasses are so cute these days.

Thanks - I did - it was so nice. I wish I could do it again today.

This is awesome! I've never boarded a dog before - so it scares me a little bit. I am sure I would if I had to though.

Sounds like a busy day. I hope you get some sun. I sure would like to do that...it's supposed to be 70 here as well (our rain doesn't come until tonight and tomorrow).

Thanks - I did keep busy... And I did get some sun - it was so nice! Thankfully, I just had my vitamin D checked - and i was only a little low... So, I am sure a bit of sun this spring will do me some good. ::yes:: I hope you get to enjoy the sun too!

Glad you are feeling better. Hope Alli gets plenty of rest on her time off from school. Winter just does not want to go away here. Have a fabulous day in the warm sun!!!

Thanks... Me too... I sure hope she is able to rest - they are sleeping in, as I type. ::yes::

YIkes - more snow... I would be awfully grumpy about it too!

Thanks! It's been a process - that's for sure!

Thanks!

I hope you had a great day too!

Glad to hear your feeling better! Wonder what that was.....

Sweet puppy pictures. You need to video Max when he first interacts with Cooper.. I bet it's going to be a hoot!

Have a wonderful productive awesome day!

I am sure it was just a virus or two? Who knows? LOL Just glad to finally be better!

I will - for sure... Lots of video of Cooper. We only have a little bit of MM when he was a puppy and i wish we had more.

Thanks! You do the same! ::yes::

I am sorry Allison is still not feeling better. I am glad I had mono over summer. I love the puppy pictures.

Yes, I think you were lucky to have it over the summer... I am hoping she is better by then.

Thanks! Me too! I am so excited to meet them this weekend!

you are going to suck me back into the Dis aren't you.

Yes, yes I am. LOL Glad to see you back here - I've missed you!

and I am completely caught up now.

:woohoo: Great job!!!

No worries! Happy to have you here and following along!

Oooh - those sound like awesome trips! Too bad we aren't going to overlap... Ooh Aulani... Awesome!!!! That will be super fun!

Thanks! I can't wait to finally meet them, and cuddle them. :lovestruc

Thank you - it's been a long road, longer than I ever imagined... I am not sure I ever would have started if I would have known it would take this long... but in the same respect - I am very glad I am going slow, and I wouldn't change a thing. :)

Thanks, me too...

So glad to have you here!

Took a glance at your Healthy Living update. You look like a teenager in the March 2015 pic!!!!!!!!! You have done such a great transformation!!!!!!:worship:

Thanks! I love it when people tell me I look young. LOL The girls have stopped telling me, because they say it gives me an ego all day. LOL But I love to hear it. It's been a lot of work and a lot of trial and error... but it's been a great journey and one that I am thankful for... As I said above - when I started, I could never have imagined that it would take me this long to get here, but in the same respect, I wouldn't change a thing... I've really enjoyed this process and everything I've gained. ::yes:: It's amazing how much better I feel, and how much stronger I am.

Thanks for taking the time to read that update and following along.

**************************************************************************************

I had a great day yesterday...

I worked out right away in the morning...

Then I finished up the bag I was working on... I hate to say it - but it is one of my all time favorite! I am very excited about it. :thumbsup2

Afterwards, I started on the next one... I was only able to get it about half way quilted.

I had lunch and changed into my suit... braved the horrible wind gusts and laid out on my deck for almost 2 hours. It was lovely. ::yes:: I am not sure that I got any darker, but it just felt good to be out there.

Then I got ready, before the girls came home, to take them to their eye appointments.

V's prescription got a little worse.

Alli needs glasses - but her prescription is barely a prescription... So, she could probably do without? But we won't make her.

And believe it or not, mine got better. :woohoo: So, I am not sure what I am going to do? I never wear my glasses - partly because they are not a neutral color and they don't match all of my stuff. <---- I know - I am weird like that. But partially because I am in denial. LOL So, if I can find a good deal on frames I like - I might get new glasses... otherwise I won't.

We were near my new favorite Mexican restaurant - Teresa's... So we decided to eat there last night... It was delicious! Josh even managed to take a selfie... Allison and I were laughing hysterically at him. And, as I am sure you can see from the picture... Allison and I look *nothing* alike. ::yes:: It's kind of like a mirror image, actually. LOL

11053049_10206725639848401_4417050833837683656_o.jpg

Today... I need to lift heavy... However, now I am sore from my lift the other day... So, I might just work out this morning and shift my lifting to tomorrow? We'll see.

Then I am going upstairs to work on that bag... I am hoping to get the rest of it quilted and the applique cut out and pieced today.

It will be a short work day for me, because I have to start getting ready around 11am.

The girls have a Dr. appointment all the way across the metro... So we need to leave early. I also want to try to stop and find some frames for them... Hopefully someone is running some good deals right now?

We won't be home again until dinner time. And I think it's leftovers tonight.

I hope you all have a great day! Prayers and good thoughts go out to all of you! :grouphug:

Ahh frames we all need different frames, exams, the whole 9 yards. I've become terrible about wearing my glasses and I actually ran out of contacts. I've been trying to get back into running lately but yesterday when I woke up I couldn't move my right toes, it's gotten worse and I have no idea what I did to it. (old age setting in:) ) Today is the day I am walking into Hobby Lobby to buy material to try sewing...something I have NEVER walked out of there with. Enjoy your day! Glad you didn't blow away yesterday, it was intense south of you. We even got the thunderstorms last night! One awesome feeling...spring is officially here!

How great that your prescription is better. I hope you find frames that you like. I have glasses as well and I don't want them to show that much. The last time I had to get a new frame I really struggled to find one that doesn't scream at you. Luckily I manage to find someone I could live with.

Here everything is closed today and tomorrow. Some shops and the vet has short hours on Saturday. Then everything is closed again until Tuesday. My cat ate a little yesterday which is good news. He has also eaten a little today. Crossing my fingers that he will eat some more today. Normally he eats dry cat food (I don't have a clue what you call it in English). The food is small hard balls. Normally he prefer the dry food rather than wet food (again I have no clue what you call this in English). The wet food being like a puree or some kind of soft squares in a sauce. I have tried to give him wet food but he doesn't want it. Today I put some water in the dry food so it wouldn't be so hard to chew. He can now choose if he want the dry food as it is or dry food that I have had some water in it to make it softer. I chose to eat the dry food that I had some water in. So now I'm suspecting that his teeth are hurting. I will have to get that checked.

March 2015

It's been a rough several weeks for me... I finished my Whole30 at the end of January, and even though I finished strong, it's been hard trying to reintigrate my "new normal" foods back into my life... Let me explain. Previous to doing my Whole30, I ate at approx 80-90% compliancy to the Primal lifestyle... This left me room for error, and let me live a comfortable eating life - with treats every now and then. But the Whole30 - while awesome - it is super strict... 100% compliancy for 30 days - NO errors, no slips, no treats - you mess up - you start over. I didn't want to start over, so I was very diligent. Once my 30 days were over, I started to allow a few items back into my life - the first being coffee with agave and real 1/2 n 1/2... Well, other things came into my house - all natural peanut butter (have I told you the pb is a weakness for me?)... I kept telling myself - that at least it was "all natural" with no weird stuff in it - true, but... Well - according to the Primal lifestyle, peanuts are a no go. Then, we went out of town for a weekend - I had to eat what was offered to me... Then Gus had his birthday and I made home-made orange rolls... The follownig day, I had to make monkey bread to use up the dough... And I couldn't resist any of it. It was bad. After all these years - I still have the cravings, I still can't resist. It was a really hard realization. I had to take a real hard look at myself, and refocus - which isn't easy. I am only 3 days back "into it"... but already I am feeling better - my belly bloat is totally gone, which is a huge boost to my morale. During this time - I must add - I continued to excercise and do my heavy lifting - so all was not lost. I did not gain any size... but I just felt awful.

It was a hard realization to come to... To know that I've been doing this and making changes for years - and to stumble into my old ways so easily... It brings me back to when I first read Primal Blueprint, and realizing that grains and sugar do have addicting chemicals in them... I get down on myself, but in the end, I remembered that it isn't all ME... The food manufacturers do add chemicals to our food, which trigger pleasure sensors in our brains - that's how they make their $$, and that's how we can't stop.

So, it's back to work for me... Continuing on this journey. I am so close... Really - one more size until my Ultimate Goal Size... I really want to concentrate on that over the next several weeks. I know I can do it - and I know I can do it before summer. :lovestruc

One progress photo for you all from this month... Gus and Allison tease me because I don't know how to take selfies... Sheesh!

June%202013%20to%20March%202015%20copy.jpg

As usual - thanks for letting me share here. :lovestruc

You look amazing. I want to thank you for pointing me in the whole 30 direction. In my case, I was eating pretty clean before the whole30, but i had a serious fresh homemade whole grain bread addiction. Really all bread, but i mostly was eating my homemade whole grain bread that used honey as the sweetener. I'm no longer tempted by that or chocolate like I was before.
Now when I want a chocolate fix i add unsweetened cocoa to my bulletproof coffee.

I am trying to figure out the best way to manage the craziness that I have going on in May. Starting with my sisters wedding May 1, breakfast next morning after the wedding. Following weekend, my nephews 1st birthday party at an old fashion ice shope, my girls birthday ( how are they going to be 10) and mothers day. Girls spring concert: i know my parents are going to want to eat out either before or after the concert.
Memorial day we go away with a twins group: picnic followed by pizzas dinner, followed by hotel breakfast and day at dorney park. I'm thinking we have a memorial day BBQ at good friends.
Then that week we have my BIL's celebration/graduation dinner, he just got his PhD in the fall. My FIL and his wife are going to be around the following weekend. I think we are going to a mets game.

Ok you did and sucked me in. Love the picture of all of you and you and Allison are adorable.

I just finished working out and tried a new one for me. Loved it. I love watching your transformation. I still have further to go but love that I am progressing.

I have to go to work for a bit then finish a dress and a pillow case and possibly a 3rd dress for Sami.

Good morning,

I don't know if you have Site for Sore Eyes In your area but, they were running a special the other day when we were there. I don't remember what it was though.

I started reading the book to go with the Whole 30 and I modified Scotty's and my diet to eliminate processed foods. We started on Sunday. As of this morning Scotty had lost 6 lbs, I'll weigh myself later. What a change!

I enjoy lifting, or I did when I could after my stroke in 07 I can't lift as much on my right side. Enjoy your workout whichever way you go.

Have a wonderful rest of your day!

I need to get new glasses, too but I hate eye exams and picking out frames. I don't know of anywhere that's having a sale either.
Today it's supposed to get to 70 here except near Lake Erie. Got to love living near one of the great lakes. When I drove by it yesterday there was still chunks of ice floating in it.
I'm glad you finished the bag you were working on. It sounds like today will be busy for you.
Have a good day.

I hate wearing my glasses... Especially when I am appliqueing or eating... When I am appliqueing - I rest my head against my machine, if I am wearing glasses the thread take-up arm hits my glasses, and it drives me nuts. And I can't eat with glasses on - I am not sure why, but it drives me crazy, as well. My optician always teases me about it.

Yay!!! I hope you had fun at HL... I still remember the first time I ever purchased fabric - I had no idea what I was doing and I was so nervous (I am weird like that)... And here I am, 5 years later... :thumbsup2 Have fun creating!

I know - I am so happy that it's finally spring... I love it!

It's so hard to find frames that I like... I know what shape I want to wear, but sadly - they just don't look good on me... So I have to settle with something that looks good. It's hard because I want to be a little bit trendy. ::yes::

I hope you enjoy your holiday weekend.

I am glad that your cat is eating - if only a little bit. Praying you make it through the weekend and he is better by the end of it.

You are very welcome! Most days are easy for me - but lately, it's been hard. I've been back on track for several days now, and I feel so much better. It's amazing how "healthy whole grains" can really mess a person up... It's made me realize, yet again, how really not healthy they are. And it makes me so angry that they are something that the government and medical society encourage...

Sounds like you have some huge events to work through coming up... Those days... I enjoy them. Honestly. I don't make it a whole day event, I eat well before and after, and I do enjoy myself while I am there - but I eat as best as I can, and try to find home-made treats that leave me feeling like I truly had a treat... It's kind of fun actually. As for the pizza... I've been known to grab a bunch of slices... Eat all of the toppings and leave the carcasses (crusts)... If I feel like I really need a piece of pizza after that, I allow myself one full piece with the crust and all... but usually, after a few bites - I decide that the crust really isn't as good as I remember it being, and I leave it. ::yes:: Just an idea.

You'll do great, I know you will!

Ok you did and sucked me in. Love the picture of all of you and you and Allison are adorable.

Hehehe... Welcome back to The Dis, Chiara - I've missed you!

Thank you!

I need to be better about trying new things, I rarely do... I've found what I like and what I am comfortable with and I kind of stick to it. Someday - when I get bored, I'll branch out. ::yes::

Thank you - me too... I love following you - you are so inspirational to me!

Yay for making new stuff - I know you leave soon... <----- Super jealous! ::yes::

Good morning,

I don't have a sight for sore eyes... I've never heard of it - but it's a cool name. :thumbsup2

Excellent!!! I am super happy to hear this. It's a good book... Personally - I think it's a bit hard, and especially difficult for someone who is just starting out... But in the same respect - I know people who have successfully completed a Whole30 cold turkey - and have had great success with it. I just know from my own personal experience, I never would have been able to do it that way - I had to work up to it, and it took me over a year to get brave enough to try. So, HUGE kudos to you... You are making HUGE progress in the right direction! :woohoo:

Oooh - awesome to have a fellow lifter reading along - super cool. It's a bummer that you can't lift as much now, but still - I think it's great that you are still lifting what you can... I am a firm believer that it's good for you and your body. ::yes::

I need to get new glasses, too but I hate eye exams and picking out frames. I don't know of anywhere that's having a sale either.

I don't mind the exams... Our optician is super funny and I enjoy seeing him once per year. ::yes:: Now picking out frames is always such a headache... Once you find a pair - it takes forever to get all of the details worked out... Especially with 3 girls doing it at the same time. LOL We always end up doing 2 or 3 trips before we order.

It didn't get quite that warm here yesterday, but I was comfortable in shorts and a fleece jacket. It just feels good to have my legs bare again... I've always hated jeans/pants. LOL

Me too... I hope to make some good progress this morning too.

You too - have a nice holiday weekend!

I had a really great day yesterday...

I was able to work in my sewing room in the morning and make a good amount of progress on my bag... It looks awesome!

The girls and I left early for their Dr. appointments... We decided to stop at the mall to see if we could find any frames that we liked... These are my options... One pair is a black pair of Ray Bans, and the other is a dark brown tortise shell pair of Coachs... I really wanted a pair of black ones, just because one of the reasons I rarely wear my glasses is that they don't match anything... I think I'd be more likely to wear the black ones a lot because they are neutral. But I really love th brown tortise ones on me - I think they look a little better. The ones Alli is wearing are the ones she is getting. None of these are ordered yet. What do you think? (I am wearing the black ones in the photo of Alli and I together)

(Yikes, after posting these pictures, I realized that I should have lint rolled my jacket... Sigh. And those shorts are still a wee bit tight on me...

From there, I took the girls to their Dr. appointments.

Afterwards, we came home, Gus came over and we had leftovers for dinner.

I hung out on my tablet most of the night... then I turned on my wax pot and waxed my eyebrows... This was a good investment for me, I was spending so much $$ on waxing every month... Now I have my own and can do it once a week, or whenever it's necessary. There is definitely an art to it though. LOL So far, I haven't done anything to myself to make me look awkward - but I am always paranoid that I will.

So, today... I am going to work out this morning...

Then I am headed upstairs for a few hours to work.

I am already packed... So I just need to get ready.

V and I are headed out to my Dad's this afternoon... It was his birthday last week, so we are taking him out for his birthday.

Then we are headed out to my foster-parent's house for the weekend...

Lots on our agenda... Tonight is dinner at a local summer place that just opened for the season last weekend... Really looking forward to this - I am lucky if I get to eat there once per year. Tomorrow we get to meet the puppies, and I get to see my friend from high school that I haven't seen since I moved in 10th grade... From there, it's my foster-dad's mother's party - so I'll get to see lots of family... Then tomorrow night Allison and Gus are coming out after she gets off of work... Gus is staying the night and headed home for his family's Easter meal, while the girls and I spend Easter with my foster family, then head to my Dad's to spend part of Easter with him and my brother. It's going to be kind of a crazy weekend... Many miles ahead of us. ::yes:: Sadly - Josh is staying home... Which is fine, we needed someone to take care of MM anyways - and he didn't feel like doing all of this running. :thumbsup2

I will try to check in from my tablet over the weekend - but I probably won't be able to do any replies.

I hope you all have a fantastic holiday weekend with family and friends. Safe travels to those of you traveling! :grouphug:
