They're Back! RE: LoveBugs!

How are ya gonna scream and keep your mouth closed? :)

There's gonna be tons of pictures posted here of people riding BTMRR with hands clasped over their mouths so they can scream while they ride!

That would be a funny thing to see!

During lovebug season, I have considered wearing a surgical mask while mowing the yard. The mower stirs them up and they are so thick, it makes it hard not to breath them in. Yuck!

OMG are you kidding me??? This early????!!!!

No way!

Hubby and I take our first kid-free trip in seven years next week to WDW. . .I mean I know that it was meant to be romantic but the state of FL really did NOT have to break out the love bugs early!!!! :(

The one time I choose a non-monorail hotel too. . .I have seen the pics of them piled up at the bus stops, I wonder if it's too late to change resorts :/

I will gladly trade cooler weather for putting the buggies back to sleep! Go to sleep go to sleeeeeep little buuuuggies!

This makes me think of the movie Wild Hogs - when they're driving down the highway getting splattered with bugs and John Travolta is laughing at the guys behind him when he gets hit in the face with a bird!!:rotfl2:

We're leaving in 8 days for WDW and we're going again in September - wouldn't you know it - right during the two times that love bugs will be there!

We've never gone at these times of the year before so I haven't seen any lovebugs and didn't even know what they were til I went the the wiki link and saw the picture of the WDW bus stop!! EEEWWWW!!:scared:

A couple of years ago in September, the only reason that we bought the ride photo from EE was because there was a lovebug that was plainly hitching a ride on the leg of my shorts. Yes, they can get quite bothersome, even on the rides.

I know they are starting to come out up here at the extreme south east part of Alabama I saw them this morning and commented to DF ,"oh lovebugs are out the Dis will be a buzz."

Ughhh! We missed them last time..I was hoping we'd miss them again. Oh well, we'll live!

Hate to break this to you but last year we made a trip from Atlanta to Miami around the 15th of May and the Love Bugs were horrible. We had to stop in Ocala coming back to wash the car as they were so bad. I doubt that they will be gone by then and really expect them to be in full swing around that time. Again, Florida has had a lot of rain this year compared to last year. They love water. I lived in Florida for 40 years. I remember when we didn't have Love Bugs.

I have to hold out hope. I have a death fear of bugs and am tremendously worried about these rotten bugs. I'd change my travel plans if I could, but I can't. I'm hopin' folks keep us up-to-date on the progress of the love bugs and they're presence in the parks.

Honestly, they're nothing to be afraid of. They do not bite or sting. If one lands on you, just take and slightly push them off. They are completely harmless. I know that when a person is afraid of something that this may not make you feel any better but they are more of a nuisance than anything else.:)

I saw some yesterday in our yard. Today its cool and breezy and I didn't see any. I still really havn't seen any on the roads.

Did the cooler weather recently make them leave or go back to wherever they came from? Not an authority here so don't know why they appear in May and Sept.... all I know is that I encountered them one Sept and YUCK!!

We are arriving on Friday and staying a week. Same week every year and we have never encountered them in April and don't want to! I will have a 3 yr old who will be screaming bloody murder down Main St. if they touch her!

Thanks!
Lorraine

I forgot about love bugs when booking our trip around Mother's Day. YUCK! The kids are going to freak. This is our first trip and hope that my trip isn't ruined by these obnoxious things.

Thanks for the heads up!

My son has a bit of an "issue" with flying bugs landing on him. He'll touch lizards, snakes, frogs... etc. but almost stops breathing if a flying bug lands on him. :confused3

I have never seen or dealt with love bugs before. I'm going to have to have a little chat with him before we get there so he can be prepared. Can anyone offer advice as to whether they are attracted (or try to avoid) anything in particular. i.e. a certain colour, a certain smell etc.? :confused3

I just wanted to tell the people who are afraid of bugs...lovebugs are nothing to be afraid of. They are little bugs that are annoying and travel in twos LOL. Seriously, they are like mosquitos that don't bite/sting and are darker. They are very slow flyers too. Can easily be caught mid-air or when they land on something. No *swatting* needed, they don't do ANYTHING.
I live in Florida and they are truly not that horrible. They do tend to be in groups, so some areas may have a lot, and others not at all. And they WILL stick to your car on long trips and MUST be washed off! :)

Went to Disney last year May 18-25 and they were there but it certainly didn't ruin our trip. We're also going this year May 11-18:cool1: so I wouldn't really freak out about them.

Chris

I absolutely hate bugs but was not bothered as bad by the love bugs as was my husband!! He just can't handle them; and, he brought a smashed one home on his shirt as a souvenir. By the way, I sprayed and washed the shirt and it did not come out. Yuck!!!: scared:

I don't know about all this "love but" hoopla. This will be my 5th trip during one of the seasons, and I can't remember seeing them, let alone being bothered by them.

I've never had any major issues with lovebugs...my problem are the Golden Raintree bugs...I can't get rid of them! At least they don't fly...they just wander.

Okay, I give...what's a Golden Raintree bug? Anyone got a photo? I know there used to be a few threads with Lovebug photos...even a few rather "graphic" photos. Frisky Lovebugs!

Show me the Golden Raintree! :goodvibes
