They were more like guidelines, anyway...

Wow love the dress. So classy but perfect for Prom. Since I have a 21 year old DS I am familiar with prom dress shopping. It was always so hard for us because my DS refused to wear anything with slits up the side or completely open backs. Strapless was about as revealing as she was willing to go. You would be shocked at how few of these there are at the Prom dress shops. We also always ended up going to a bridal shop.

Yeah, some of those dresses are just Crazy! The low backs and ones with open sides just look too mature for a teen to me. :scared:

Luckily we didn't have to worry about that. DNiece was very uncomfortable with any of those bare back, strapless or dresses with slits (even one just to the knee which I thought was fine and lovely :rotfl:). Honestly, we had to work to get her to loosen up. lol.

Your comment made me look back at the photo and sure enough it shows the dress strapless. But, it must be optional, because DN's has spaghetti straps which made her a lot more comfortable. :upsidedow It was fun formal dress shopping! I haven't really done this since my last sister's wedding. DD bought her 8th grade formal shopping with friends so I didn't get to participate. Wah.

Woh! I almost fell off the face of the Dis! I was back to page three oblivion. AGAIN!

Hey, you... :surfweb:. Yeah, you, :surfweb:. Lurkers! :wave2: Over here!!!

Don't just read and laugh at my ridiculous mistakes and mishaps. Don't just ogle my handsome hubby. :upsidedow Or laugh at my kids' antics.

I don't want to DISAPPEAR!!! pixiedust: (Yeah, I know, that's pixiedust, but still... he disappears, right?)

That's alright. I'll wait....

:rotfl: :lmao: :lmao:

Okay, okay, enough pathetic begging.
I short update. I put in for our original trip dates at work. Boss seemed fine with it, which is great. So, now, DH needs to arrange his time off. Then, finally, I'll re-schedule our reservations and I think we'll have this trip set in stone.

Which, of course, means changing my ticker again.
Back to square one. :rolleyes2 I thought tickers were supposed to make the time go faster. :rolleyes2 That really doesn't work when you keep changing the dates. :lmao:

I've been trying to think about our plans for Day One at the Ft. That's a "no park" day.

We'll need to set up our base camp and pick up some of the groceries, and I didn't want to feel rushed, so I left the day open.

But, we'll be arriving bright and early, so we're going to have plenty of day left for some extra-curriculars. Obviously, we'll go to the Ft. pool, which the kids are going to love. But, I think we'll have a lot more time than that.

There's always Downtown Disney, but I'm wondering about maybe trying something new this year.

Has anyone done the putt putt courses? If so, which did you like the best? What's a good time of day to go? (I'm not really worried about the heat, we'll be dealing with that no matter what we do. I just don't want to get there and have to wait forever.)

Any other suggestions for some fun, simple activities for this day??

We'll probably have two early evenings on our trip also (after the water parks). I'm sure we'll be done there by 4 p.m. both days which means plenty of time to explore.

Here are a few ideas I've been throwing around:
Exploring:
Art of Animation
Animal Kingdom Lodge
Any other resorts worth just a walk through. (We've done all the monorail resorts, so probably not those.)

Obviously Downtown Disney is an option. I'd be surprised if we didn't go at least once.

Anything else that would be fun for a quiet afternoon? We're open to anything really. Even outside the Disney Bubble. No idea is too big or too small. I just need a few to consider that other people have enjoyed.

On a side note, I think I'm going to walk my husband through all the attractions at each park. I was really kind of surprised at how small our "must do" list at DHS was. Honestly, we may reconsider and decide to do MK, just because there are so many more attractions.

I'm not fussed either way, but I don't want DH and the kids to feel like it's a wasted day, so I think I'll walk through it with him (Or all of them once we get there..... :scared: yikes, am i really considering making last minute changes to the plan? Why, yes, this time, I am.....)

Well, that's probably enough rambling for one day. Feel free to share you expertise, advice, suggestions, crazy ideas... I would love to hear all of them.

You too, Lurkers! :wave2:

Ok. I am more of a lurker than a poster, but you did beg. I am planning my first trip to WDW, so I am probably not the best one to ask for advice. However, I do understand about DHS. We are planning on taking a couple of hours to go to lunch at Landscape of Flavors and then explore Art of Animation. I really want to see it and take pictures and it is nearby. We have never been to the miniature golf at WDW, but we are planning on it. With the water parks and more add-on, it is included. The only thing is you have to get there before 4pm with that option. If you don't have the add-on, then you could go anytime. We are still going to try to fit it in on our last day.

Hope this helps you to stay on page 1 a little bit longer.

I am not sure if you have come up with a solution on how you can surprise your kids with Universal and still use the GPS but I think I have thought of one. Why don't you research a store or restaurant or something in the area that is right next to Universal. Then you can tell your kids that somebody recomended this "store" and you wanted to check it out before you leave. You can put the stores address in the GPS but by the time you get close to it the signs for Universal will guide you the rest of the way in. What do you think? (I am not going to lie...I was pretty impressed with myself :rotfl2:).

:welcome::jumping1::banana:

:thanks::thanks:

And thank you for the tip on the putt putt, I didn't know that! :upsidedow
I've been trying so hard not to overplan, I think I'm missing a few things.
lol.

And for the rest of you lurkers, now that Oregonmom broke the ice, you need to come out of hiding! Come on, you can do it!!!! :cheer2:

By George, I think you got it! Simple. Easy... I'm thinking restaurant since we'll be packing up the tent, and heading out around breakfast time from Disney. The kids won't think twice about stopping for breakfast before we hit the road for the long ride home. PERFECT!!! Now, to find a Golden Corral or something close to Universal.....

:thanks:

Perfect. There is a Denny's on the loop right behind the Doubletree Hotel at the entrance to Universal (we stayed there for a couple nights once so that's where I centered my search). That will work perfectly for getting us there without giving anything away! Thanks so much for the tip! Perfect idea!!

And since we've stayed at the RPR before and did a lot of walking between the Doubletree and Universal on a prior trip, I'm confident we can follow the Universal signs to the RPR once we get that far. :thumbsup2

Problem solved. And mission accomplished! Thanks again!

On a side note. I got a scare today. Like maybe Emily is on to something. She made a comment that got my radar up:

We took the kids to see Jack the Giant Slayer (it's spring break and dad took a half day to do something fun). On the way there, we made a short stop at Walmart so dad could pick up a couple things.

Anyway, as we were walking through the store, Emily noticed the swimsuits and stopped to check them out. (She found out just this morning that we are going to have to buy a new one for our "camping trip" because she's been running, dropped a few pounds, and now the two suits we bought last year are too loose :headache:).

Anyway, she saw one she liked, then said, "Oh, but it's got metal on it. I can't where it on a water slide."

WHAT????

I haven't said a word about water slides??? We're going "camping" and "maybe to the beach." That's it.

What is this about water slides???? :scared:

I hope I haven't given anything away or left anything laying around that gave her a tip! :scratchin

It's possible she was just talking about the slide at the public pool, but I've never seen them be all that particular about swimwear there. It's just a little public pool with a small slide. :confused3

Oh well, if she figured something out. So, be it. I just ignored the comment and moved on.

We're going shopping tomorrow with my sis and niece (again, lol) and it did get me thinking: I'm going to have to find a way to get Emily into a tankini or more one-piece style of suit (the two from last summer were bikinis). She would never forgive me if I let her get a teeny bikini and she loses it on a water slide! :scared::scared::scared:

Hmmmm, gonna have to work on that. :scratchin Maybe I'll remind her how rough the waves can be at the beach. Or suggest a trip to The Beach or Kings Island waterparks locally this summer, then remind her how NOT appropriate bikinis are for water parks. :scratchin Eh, I'll think of something.

Amazing how the lies just keep growing! :upsidedow

I'm still here!

I'd say to check out AKL if you are looking for something different to do. The grounds are beautiful, not to mention the hotel itself. We had dinner there on our one day trip in 2010 and spent a good deal of time just walking the animal trails and sitting on the rockers placed strategically around the savannah. It's so beautiful!

Kids are so sneaky...they don't hear us when we want them to and then hear everything we say when we're trying to be secretive. UGH! I hope your surprise is still a surprise.

Yay!!

I think that is an excellent idea to talk about the local waterpark to throw them off the scent. If it is not too expensive to go to, maybe you can actually plan a trip to the park early in July and that should really throw them off.

You too, Lurkers! :wave2:

I feel the same way about my lurkers. I can tell that lots of people look at my page but very few comment:confused:. Which make the page end up on page three very quickly after posting an update.

One suggestion I would give is to check out the Boardwalk. It would be especially convenient if you decide to putt putt. You could drive over to the Boardwalk and spend some time there and then walk over to the course that is right next to the Swan/Dolphin. I love the Boardwalk the most in the evenings. It is cooler and has a wonderful energy to it. You can also watch the high fireworks from Illuminations from most any where on the Boardwalk. We love to sit on the Beach at the Beach Club and watch from there.

About the bathing suit. My DD has always worn a bikini and never came close to losing it on any of the water slides. Heck I even wore a bikini during our trip in 2011. The only ride we do not do is Summit Plummet but I have seen tons of people come down that one in a bikini. So if you can not talk her into a tankini then I think she will still be ok.

Have you ever been to a campground with a water slide? Last campgroud we stayed at (Yogi Bear campground, right outside Mammoth Caves), had a waterslide. So she might have been thinking about that.

Or maybe she's anticipating a trip to KI or the Beach. (So happy the Beach is open again this year). In fact, you said a trip to the beach. Maybe she thought you meant The Beach.

BTW, for those who don't live around SW Ohio, the Beach is a waterpark near Kings Island. It closed during last summer, but it's reopening agaiin for this summer.

Just a thought... Start out with touring some of the other hotels, AKL sounds like a great choice for those who have suggested it. A great thought for downtown Disney would be to check out Splitsville, the newly opened bowling alley. They also serve up appetizers and meals there as well. Disneyquest isn't really my cup of tea... Too loud, and I would rather spend time with my family doing an activity, than just watching my kids playing video games-- lol!! I can do that at home. An option for kids if they are at the right age is the pirate boat cruise, or maybe enjoy a spa service, or the bippity boppity boutique!

Me too. Know way to know. She's a pretty smart cookie, so if she knows she'll probably cover her tracks better after that slip-up. :rotfl:

Yay!!

Good Point! And hey, it is a lot of fun! We have really enjoyed our trips there. It's not Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon, but it still has a lot of great slides. :thumbsup2

I saw a lot of bikinis there on our last trip, but I wasn't sure how many of those ladies were doing the speed slides. And I know Em would be HORRIFIED if she did have a wardrobe malfunction! :scared1:

As it happens, she started looking at tankinis on her own. I never said a word.
Maybe she didn't like showing that much skin last summer? :confused3

Anyway, this is the tankini she ended up with:
http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-c30473/zeroxposur-floral-swim-separates.jsp

She got a different skirt bottom than what's in the tankini picture. Something more like this:
http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1197945/apt-9-solid-ruffle-skirtini-bottoms.jsp

She's happy, and I'm happy. A perfect choice, in my opinion.

The Boardwalk idea is a good one. We visited there one evening on our first trip back in 2005. We haven't been back since. It was a nice evening. The street entertainment and the atmosphere was a lot of fun. Maybe we could try one of the bikes also (I'm not sure what you call those things. :confused3)
I'd love to see the dueling pianos someday, but I think that's a bar (correct me if I'm wrong), so I guess I'll have to wait until my kids are out of the house.

Good point about the campground. We usually do stay at the more family friendly types (as opposed to state parks) and some did have water slides. I'm gonna hope so anyway.
I'm pretty sure she didn't confuse the beach for "The Beach" just because we were talking about vacation, not a day trip. But, I do think a trip to The Beach might be a good idea anyway! Like another poster said, it may throw her off the scent if she did hear something she shouldn't have. :rotfl2:

I only recently learned of Splitsville. I do think we would enjoy that. It's not something we have done often, but we usually have fun when we do. Got agree with you on Disneyquest. The kids liked it on our last trip, but I did NOT. Too much standing around, watching them play games, with no where to sit down. Blah. :headache:

And thanks for joining in. I love meeting everyone and hearing suggestions from a lot of people! Please don't hesitate to share any other tips! :worship:

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I probably will wait until that day and let the family decide. But, it will be nice to have a list of options for them to choose from, and to know what would be involved in each option (i.e. cash out of pocket vs. free, drive time, crowd levels at certain times of day, that sort of thing) so we can make a wise choice. :hippie:

Fixed my ticker.

Again.

This better be the last time I see my Owl fly in reverse. :crazy2:

:offtopic: Completely off topic rambling. Feel free to skip this post if you like. :p

We've got some other big plans for the spring and summer this year. Our house is a century old and was quite the fixer-upper when we first bought it. We updated most of the interior, the electric, the plumbing, all the windows and doors over the last 10 years.

And, FINALLY, after all this time, we're ready to replace the nasty white siding I've hated since Day One. Woo Hoo! :cheer2: I'm so tired of the stained, old, ratty siding. I can't wait to get started. We're going with a darker gray color to match the detach garage we built a few years ago.

Since we'll have to rent a bin to collect all the trash, I've also asked DH to tear out and replace the front sidewalk, front porch posts and rails, and the pea gravel that was under the kids play area in the yard (we sold the play set when I closed my day care, but the gravel is still there ).

I figure we might as well get these projects done at the same time, since we'll have a place to go with the garbage and they aren't pricey add ons. Just a bit of manual labor. DH would also like to replace the roof, but that will depend on how far our budget will stretch. It's still got a few years of life in it, so we don't have to get it done this year. But, if we can stretch it, it would be nice to get all of the work done at once... Either way, by the end of the summer, my house and yard should look 100% better! :cool1:

It would be really great if we could have all the projects done and the new grass growing well before our trip. Dh has some construction experience and my dad is a retired contractor, so we plan on hiring another pair of hands and doing the work ourselves. This will save us some cash, but may slow down the timeline a bit. :hourglass

Due to all these projects, the vacation, and my work schedule, I decided to take the summer off from school. I'm looking forward to the change of pace. I'll still be busy, but it's all exciting stuff that I've wanted to get done for a decade, so I don't mind a bit!!! :hyper:

That does sound like a summer full of work. It's good you already had your vacation planned as a way to take a break from it after you get done. Hopefully you don't have to see that owl fly in reverse anymore. At least you're under 4 months left to go! Inching closer.

Wow...that really sounds like a big job! How great that you have the skills to do the work yourselves. That is a huge money saver!

Yay for a summer off! :goodvibes

Woo Hoo! I can't wait. I know from the past that it will be over before I know it. But, it always feels like the wait takes For-E-V-E-R...

Wow...that really sounds like a big job! How great that you have the skills to do the work yourselves. That is a huge money saver!

Well, DH and dad have the skills. The kids and I will be on clean-up and transport. It saves time if you've got one person on the scaffolding measuring and installing (DH) and one on the ground cutting (Dad) and the kids climbing up and down delivering the pieces. (Although it would probably help my fitness level if I did some of that too, I would slow down the delivery process. I am NOT 18 anymore...)

We'll rent a friend's bobcat to get the pea gravel out because I had a LARGE play area and digging it up by the shovel full is NOT an option. :faint: So that job really isn't as bad as it sounds. (Actually, we have another friend who expressed an interest in the pea gravel last year, so if they still want it, we'll be off the hook for removal. Then, all we'll have to do is level the yard and re-seed the area.)

And, on the plus side, with this much outside work to do, I may have a nice tan going before the trip. Bonus!

I am VERY happy now that I decided to take off this summer. It's gonna be a busy one and I don't want to add trying to re-learn Chemistry in 8 weeks to my list right now. I'll save that for another semester. :teacher:

I turned in my nursing application packet on Tuesday. I was told I should receive word on my acceptance (Oh, I hope, I hope, I hope) early in June. So, I'll just keep my focus on these projects and the trip to get me through the next couple months of nerves. :worried:

Due to all these projects, the vacation, and my work schedule, I decided to take the summer off from school. I'm looking forward to the change of pace. I'll still be busy, but it's all exciting stuff that I've wanted to get done for a decade, so I don't mind a bit!!! :hyper:

We are big do it yourselfers also! My dad is a retired electrician but while I was growing up we built a whole additional house onto our existing house(doubling it in size). My dad did not believe in hiring help when he had 4 perfectly healthy kids to help him:lmao: so I really learned alot. Now it just goes against my grain to hire any work out:confused3

I think your project sounds like great fun and will look awesome when it is complete!!!

Hi, Susan! I finally had the opportunity to read through your PTR! First off, congrats on quitting your job and going back to school to be an RN! That must have taken a lot of courage! I’m always happy to hear when people are able to do what they really love :goodvibes You have a beautiful family! I hope you post about the zombie cake that your daughter wants for her birthday! My son and I are into all things zombie, too, so that cake sounds pretty cool! I don’t know if I could eat a zombie cake, but it would be fun to look at :lmao: OK, I just got to the part where you posted a picture of the cake. That is repulsive! And so cool! :rotfl: Ooh, cute sandals! I’m glad you gave into temptation and got the other two pairs too! :thumbsup2 I am really enjoying the scheming going on in this PTR: “forgetting” the laptop, going to Denny’s, buying a tankini or a one piece for the local water parks… :rotfl2: Oh, and I almost forgot, getting your hubs to use his domestic side while you guys are camping! That is awesome. I have never been camping, but I love the country and I would be up for camping in an RV one day. My kids want to go tent camping, but I am way too prissy for that princess: I have considered getting them a tent so that they can camp in the back yard. Maybe I’ll work my way up to a real camping trip one day. It looks like fun – especially camping at Fort Wilderness – but you are a brave lady to be doing it in July! You guys are experienced campers, though, so it looks like you have great plans to deal with the heat and the rain :goodvibes Good luck with your daughter’s eye issues. I will keep her in my thoughts. Oh and I forgot to mention that your resort choice of RPR is great! I can’t wait to hear about more of your plans!
