They were more like guidelines, anyway...

Loving the favorite list! We used to go to Universal and IoA every year but have not been back since 2004 when my older two were 12 & 16. I was actually pregnant with our little one for that trip. I suspect we will be back when the little one finally develops a love for the thrill rides.

It really is an awesome park! We had a great time there in '08 and I'm looking forward to those Express Pass perks and the hotel pools! :thumbsup2

That TL wave pool terrifies me! :scared: I hate wave pools as it is, and that one takes the cake! You are all very brave. ;)

You'll probably laugh, but I thought the BB wave pool was the scarier one. There were soooo many innertubes, it was hard to stay away from them, and they would just bob right over top of you, and I kept losing sight of the kids, even through they were right next to me. And it was hard to get ahold of four innertubes for the family. It just made me very nervous. :scared:

TL is definitely a rough one, but we stuck together and found certain depths that worked for us. Emily was 11 and Garren was 8 on that trip.

Since Emily was a decent swimmer, she stuck with dad and they went to about the 6-8 foot deep part of the pool. They would sort of body surf on top of the waves or duck underneath each time they rolled in.

Garren was not a great swimmer at that point, so we stayed in the 4 foot deep water where we could tiptoe and I could stand to help him if he needed it. We let the water somersault us like we were in a washing machine each time it came in. We were just deep enough that we didn't hit the rough bottom.

We had a lot of fun. And found a lot of lost cameras, hats, and sun glasses. :rotfl: Seriously, it was like a dozen. We'd just hold them above our head until someone saw and claimed them.

There is NO way I would take a little kid into that pool who couldn't swim at least moderately well. :scared1:You really can't even play in the shallow parts because it's just too rough and you get cuts and scrapes from the bottom of the pool. So, I can totally see why it doesn't appeal to some. I've never experienced anything like it. :beach:

You can add them back. Just click edit and then "go advanced". This will bring back all teh options you have when you first enter a post and also allows you to edit the title.

Update - I just looked and you do not actually have to choose go advanced just to add the colors back.

Thanks. There they are. :goodvibes

My boys liked the snorkeling at TL. Gonna try it for real in the Bahamas! :thumbsup2

That would be sooo awesome! I've got to find a way to do that someday (preferably without the cruise. lol.) I'll be anxiously awaiting any pictures of that. Hope you have an underwater camera!! :beach:

Bit of back story. We purchased a new tent last year and tried it out for the first time last fall. It was much larger than our old tent, with higher ceilings. Loved that. But, we found out the rain fly is completely inadequate. :rolleyes2 (No idea why they would make a rain fly that doesn't keep the rain out... :scratchin)

This is the tent (or at least one that is very similar to ours).

http://www.kmart.com/northwest-terr...W004390889000P?prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2

The problem is the large number of screen areas on the front of the tent. It was designed so you could have an open screen room to the front and two enclosed sleeping rooms to the back (the picture shows it all wide open, but anyway). Well, even after we weather-proofed it, those screens and their seams are a weak point. And the rain fly doesn't keep the weather off those at all. It also has no "awning" type projection over the doorway, so if you try to go in or out in the rain, the inside of the tent gets wet. :duck: Not the best design there.

On the last trip, we just rigged up a temporary solution using a tarp, some rope and a few trees. This time, we want to create a nice covering that will shed rain properly and give us a nice covering at the doorway.

While pricing out telescoping tent poles for this purpose, I happened to bump into this video on youtube. We didn't plan on making our own poles and still do not, but the photo at the end gives a good example of how we want to set it all up at our campsite, so I saved the video to use as an example. (If you want to see it, just scroll to the end of the video.)

I think this will be the perfect solution to our rain issues in Orlando. It may also help shade the tent a little and allow us to leave the screens open for more air flow. Hopefully that will keep the humidity lower inside the tent.

I also like this set up because it will give us more covered area outside the tent. We have a 10X10 easy up we typically use over the picnic table when we camp, but that doesn't leave much room for lawn chairs, etc. and something always seems to end up soaked when it rains. With the easy up and this tarp idea, maybe we can keep everything dry this time around. :scratchin

On a side note, kinda a :worried: day today. I know I mentioned at the start of this report that we were hoping a medical situation would remain stable for a while. Well, it looks like it's not going to go our way. Emily was diagnosed with something called Ocular Histoplasmosis shortly after our last WDW trip in 2010. It's a disease that causes blood vessels to grow under the retina, causing scarring and vision loss. It took two years of laser surgery and chemo injections to get a decent amount of vision back and to stabilize the last bleed. It's stayed the same for about six months now, and today she said she thinks its starting again. She is getting "electricity" flashes in her bad eye and an area that is hazy which was clear a week ago. Grrr... I was really hoping she could make it long term without more problems.

Anyway, dad's taking her back to the retinal specialist tomorrow to see what they can see (pun intended), and I guess we'll go from there. Maybe we got to it early enough this time and it won't take as long to treat. Maybe Em's wrong... A mom's gotta hope. But, enough of that, no point worrying about it until we see what the doctor says.

As a tent camper myself, the "let's be sure we're dry" game is one we play often! We have a great tent, a Coleman, that stays dry and that we love. However, the zipper is failing so it may be time to get a new tent or find a seamstress to replace the zipper. We also have a tent for the boys that we like, but that one was trial and error. We had a very cheap one from Walmart that we hated....poles snapped, rain got in constantly. BAD TENT! We've learned our lesson when it comes to tents...don't go cheap!

The tarp arrangement looks good. It's always nice to have a little area to sit and stay dry aside from under the picnic table tarp. There's never enough room there! We do the same with a 12x12 canopy, but all the chairs around the fire ring have to get brought under at the threat of rain and it gets crowded!

Sorry about the eye issue with Emily. I hope it turns out to be nothing....or easily treatable. No worries until the doctor gives you something to worry about, right? :flower3:

What a weird tent design! You would think if they were going to have it angle like that they would either make it fully water proof or give you a canopy to extend out from the entrance. That's good you've found a solution though!

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's eye. I hope you're right and it can be taken care of quickly this time. I can't imagine how hard that must be on you. Hopefully it all works out and you can be back to thinking about Disney in no time! :goodvibes

Wow! I love the looks of this tent. And for a good price too. We're in the market for a tent. We're going camping this July, and we need a new tent. DH and I are big, so we need all the space we can get.

Hmmm. I'm at work, and we're restricted from Youtube at work. I'll look at it at home.

The reviews says it's super-easy to set up. Which is good, because I'm all thumbs when setting tents up, so it would be my DH for the most part.

We do have a tent at home, but it's impossible to set up for some odd reason. We think we could be missing a part. I dunno. We're going to try to set it up in our neighborhood park once the weather clears. (We live in a condo, and we don't have a yard).

Yeah, we got this one super cheap on an after summer sale, without really shopping around. Lesson learned. Our old one was super dry and had a nice rain fly, but just got too small for the four of us.

The tarp arrangement looks good. It's always nice to have a little area to sit and stay dry aside from under the picnic table tarp. There's never enough room there! Yeah, it gets very annoying having to fold everything up and tuck it up against the picnic table, and still something gets wet.

Sorry about the eye issue with Emily. I hope it turns out to be nothing....or easily treatable. No worries until the doctor gives you something to worry about, right? :flower3:

I try not to worry too much. It won't help anything anyway. She does have another bleed, which completely sucks. She had to get the Avastin today, :scared: and she'll go back every four weeks for additional treatments. Hopefully it won't take as long as last time. Blah.

What a weird tent design! You would think if they were going to have it angle like that they would either make it fully water proof or give you a canopy to extend out from the entrance. That's good you've found a solution though!

It is a lousy design. And we really couldn't tell from the photo of the tent that the rain fly would be so lousy. Oh well. We'll make it work and if we ever buy another tent, I'll spend a little more time on research. Lesson learned.

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's eye. I hope you're right and it can be taken care of quickly this time. I can't imagine how hard that must be on you. Hopefully it all works out and you can be back to thinking about Disney in no time! :goodvibes

Thanks for the good wishes. I guess we'll just take it one day at a time and see how things go. I'm just bummed for her.

But...

Good Luck with the tent hunting. Definitely do more research than I did. I love the height of the tent, and the three separate areas, and the floor space. But, the rain thing is not a minor issue when you are camping. :crazy2:

Hmmm. I'm at work, and we're restricted from Youtube at work. I'll look at it at home.

The reviews says it's super-easy to set up. Which is good, because I'm all thumbs when setting tents up, so it would be my DH for the most part.

This one took a little work to get figured out, but it's pretty easy now that we know what we're doing. lol. Like most tents I guess.

We do have a tent at home, but it's impossible to set up for some odd reason. We think we could be missing a part. I dunno. We're going to try to set it up in our neighborhood park once the weather clears. (We live in a condo, and we don't have a yard).

Have you tried it in the grass yet? Some tents (our new one included) will ONLY set up with the corners staked first. You have to have that support to start with or it just falls over. :rotfl2: Ask me how I know? lol.

Prayers for your daughter. I'm hoping it's nothing serious. :grouphug:

Thanks. It's not "serious," yet it is. Kinda a catch 22. She can see okay most of the time because her other eye is fine. (Although if the bad eye goes bad fast it messes with her depth perception and she can get pretty clutsy.) But, we have to be aggressive treating this one, because her other eye is also infected. If we let the first one go and then she gets an aggressive flare-up in the other eye some day down the road, she would be in real trouble. So, it's just sort of wierd to deal with and think about.

Prayers for Emily. :grouphug:

Thanks!

She's a tough cookie. Last time, we had a lot of dealys and misdiagnosis, at least two months from first symptoms to first treatment. We've gotten to it much quicker this time. Hopefully that will help.

Ok, I'm in. I like the way you roll. :rotfl: I nearly spit my tea out all over my computer when I read about your dd breathing on your son. I was hoping the one compensation of teenagerness would be a reduction in the sibling "he's looking at me" stuff. Guess not. :confused3

I love the idea of Ft Wilderness. We went a couple of times on previous trips, did the movie night and campfire and a dinner at the buffet place. But seriously, I don't camp. That's the only vacation we had as kids, and I enjoyed it...but, uh, no. With an RV, maybe. (An RV is in my "win the lottery" plan, the cooking outdoors and campfires are great...) My dh and dd love it, and ds and I are like, "yeah, we'll be in the motel watching cable." :happytv: "Let us know when the hot dogs are ready."

Ok, I promised myself I wouldn't spend all day reading TRs today, so, like your ds, I'll be back!

Welcome aboard! :yay: And sorry for the killing the dream (as far as teens), they do still act like they are 8 and 10 when they are at home. Of course, they would n-e-v-e-r do those sorts of things in public anymore. It's just for DH and I's viewing pleasure. :headache:

I think being forced to camp as a child must be a death knell for a love of camping as an adult. I've heard more than a few people say the exact same thing as you. :rotfl:

I love your "win the lottery" plan. Dh and I went to a Boat and Travel Show at the Cincinnati convention center a few weeks back. O M G!!! Some of those campers are nicer than my house!!! I could totally camp in one of those babies! They even had electric fire places in the living space! I may retire to Florida in one of those someday!!

I'll tell you a little secret... One of the reasons I LOVE camping.

DH does almost all the work... including the cooking. :rotfl: What's not to love??

He is a total cave man and still considers me his "little lady" :cutie: after all these years, so camping is my chance to just sit in a chair and watch him explore his domestic side. :rolleyes1

Good thing he doesn't dis. I would destroy his illusions and then I might have to actually do something on these trips. :lmao:

I guess I understand that you can't spend a-l-l day on the computer, some people actually have work to do, so I'll just finish with:
Y'all come back now, ya hear??

Ah yes, that'll do it. Not to brag or anything (oh heck why not, it gives me joy!), but my dh is the primary cook in our family, always has been. When I was on my first mat leave, I finally learned to cook a few things--eventually. Before that I was waiting for him to come home from work to feed me. (I was feeding the baby!! Sheesh, I can't do everything!) princess: Now if camping could make him pick up his socks and do a load of laundry, I'd be all over it.

Yep, don't ever let him follow you here. It would ruin everything!

Really sorry to read about your dd's eye issues. As you say, at least you know what's going on this time, and you are on top of it. Will add her to my prayers, wish I could do more.

Yeah, I've never really understood it... My hubby is a great cook and seems to enjoy it whenever he does; but, he won't cook for me full time at home. But, if you start a grill or a fire, he is all over that! I guess I need to have a fireplace built into our kitchen? Maybe then, I would never have to cook again??

Thanks for the prayers. That's pretty much all we can do too.

:offtopic: Feel free to skip, this is just a real life update. lol.
No new vacation plans just now, I'm just bumping myself up from Page 3 Oblivion. :rotfl: It's been crazy busy around here.

Thank goodness this is the final week of wrestling for Garren. Well, there will be some AAU stuff, but no more 6 day a week practices and meets. :faint: He and dad are getting worn out.

Emily's back to her running routine and happy about it. She and her running partner have had nothing but trouble since the beginning of the year. Bad weather, illnesses, they just couldn't seem to get any runs in. But they are finally hitting their stride.
She's also tutoring a first grader three days a week and seems to be doing a good job. His mom is happy with the results anyway. :)

I've just been working (non stop lately, everyone else at work is sick and I had to do some overtime to fill in) and whittling away at my course work for this semester. Speech, Sociology, Algebra and Anatomy & Physiology. Fun stuff. It's not too hard, but certainly keeps me busy.

Next week is my Spring Break and I'm going to spend that focusing on some last minute study for the TEAS (evaluation used for acceptance into the nursing program). If I've got time left over, I hope to paint the living room. I picked the paint up over six months ago when they had a buy one gallon, get one for a $1 sale... and I have yet to get the job done.
On the plus side, if I get that done, my entire downstairs will be done and all the day care damages will finally be repaired. Little kids are destructive. :lmao:

I'm trying to get myself back on my workout routine as well. On paper, I have enough time to work out 4-5 days a week for an hour, but it seems like I always cave at the last minute because I'm "too tired" or "too busy" or whatever.

Someone please yell at me and tell me to get my act in gear, because I have put on too much weight in the last year, and I really want to be in better shape than this, especially with the career I'm going into.
:duck: Throw some tomatoes or something, cause I need some serious motivation here. :headache:

Anyway, that's why I haven't been around much. I've still got some vacation plans to settle, but I haven't had any chance to work on it right now. Hopefully, I'll catch up next week, and will be able to update some more after that.

I Can't Wait for This Trip! :beach: :hourglass Only a few more months....

You sound like a busy, busy woman! WOW! :faint:

I hear ya about the exercising. I've been trying to drop a few pounds since January and have managed to lose 12 pounds. Now I'm stuck at this weight and really need to start adding some exercise if I want to lose the last few I have left before my goal. I do the same thing...there should be time, but I make excuses! I just do not understand those women who LIKE to work out! LOL! If you get off your butt, I'll get off mine! ;)

Sounds like you have been very busy indeed! Glad things are somewhat getting back to normal for you at least though.

As far as the working out thing, maybe you should sign up for a 5k or mud run or something. Just sign up for it with the intentions of doing it and then you'll WANT to work out in order to make sure you are ready for the event. I always knew I should work out but I didn't really have the motivation to get myself in gear until I signed up for a Tough Mudder that will be taking place in April. Since I signed up for that I have been hitting it hard so that I don't embarrass myself.

I've barely lost any weight, so good job with the 12 pounds. I'll do my best to get off my lazy butt. And I'll try to post here about it. Maybe that will make me more accountable and give you some incentive as well. Make sure you gloat whenever you get a workout in. I'm a bit competitive and that might help push me. :thumbsup2

I did work out Tuesday night (Tae Bo, not sure I spelled that right) with a friend. We had another date scheduled for this afternoon. She called and tried to cancel on me this morning because she didn't have anyone to watch her kids, but I told her I would come to her house and we would just workout in the living room with a video.
So, I stood my ground this morning at least. We'll see if I can keep it up longer than a week.

Good Point. That's what I did the last time. I signed up for the Indianapolis Mini Marathon and was in the best shape of my life because I didn't want to be the last person across the line or have "real" runners looking at me and saying: "Wow, I think she's gonna pass out. Do you think she's gonna pass out? What was the fool thinking??". :rotfl2: I did the Warrior Dash last summer also. Wow, that was hard. I only trained for the running part, so the obstacles were a real challenge. I had no upper body strength. :rotfl: It was a lot of fun though.

I know there is a "Run for Your Lives" event here in Indiana this summer. Maybe I should sign Emily and I up for that. She would LOVE it. I will probably be :scared1: having zombies chasing me. I'll have to make "it's not real, it's not real" my running mantra if we do that one...
:lmao:

My week has been crazy also. I think I am on page three now too with both my PTRs:scared:

I wish I could yell at you for not sticking to your plans to get in shape but if I did that it would make me a hypocrite and I can't have that:rotfl:

I am so mad at myself for not doing what needs to be done to get in shape for this trip. I just can not seem to get myself in geer.:confused3
