They Should Really Put a Bar in Here - Closing Thoughts - 4/1

Great update, Andy. I love Philharmagic, but I do question your judgment of doing it when you did. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Just one of those mental lapses I guess. :lmao:

You got some great shots on your cell phone of the new Fantasyland and it didn't look all that crowded with people (well except for the line for Enchanted Tales...which was over 100 minutes every time we went near it).
We definitely noticed Enchanted Tales always being nuts, but it was considerably more crowded than it had been all week. But still not quite as bad as Saturday. :rolleyes1

Love the photos of your DS trying to pull that sword out of the stone.
Thanks

Isn't BOG just the best? I loved the themeing and the detail. We ate in the West Wing as you know from my TR and we just loved that room. I was able to snag another ADR for our August trip (and Mary got one for our girls trip in June) and I'm hoping to get the West Wing for one and the other ballroom for the other. I'd also like to try to do a quick service meal there too if the line isn't too long.
I'd say if they line is only a few people deep outside the door, go for it! If it is lined up back to Gaston, forget about it. Anywhere in between is a judgement call. :rotfl2:

Great review of BOG! It is on our schedule for both Lunch and dinner, not sure if they will both happen though..... I was confused at first with the photo of you son, it looked like he was eating mac and cheese off a napkin! Then I realized they were goldfish :rotfl:
I thought the same thing too at first! :lmao: I knew we didn't order him a meal there, but I couldn't figure out where he got mac & cheese... :rotfl2::rotfl:

Great update! I am impressed that HM went as well as it did and love the sword in the stone pics.
I was really nervous when we stopped, but thankfully, it wasn't too bad.

Pretty funny about Phillarmagic though!
Yeah... commando park touring planner FAIL. :rotfl:

I really REALLY want to eat at BOG after reading your review, that sounds like a pretty painless wait all things considered.
It really wasn't bad at all. Once you're in the door, it really moves well. I don't know that I'd be eager to jump in a line that wraps around the corner and across the bridge again, but I definitely wouldn't let a line a few groups deep outside the door keep me away.

:thumbsup2 on the Disney chat...you just never know. Jeff has gone from a every 3 years max to an almost annual event.

When the guy okays (suggests!) an adult only Disney Cruise, and in fact is the one saying he won't cruise with anyone else, admits he has a favorite park...I think that's officially considered progress. And honestly, really unexpected progress all on his own. So you never know!
I've actually been thinking about suggesting a Disney cruise, but I'm not sure I want to go with DD still being too young for the kids clubs. I'm going to be a little bit selfish here, but if I'm going to spend that type of money for a cruise, I want to be able to enjoy at least a few hours of it without having to keep track of kids. :confused3

So I noticed your Purdue shirt and I wanted to tell you I am actually related to John Purdue. Sorry ...... off topic. But along with being a Dis geek, I am an Ancestry.com geek as well.
Off topic sharing is more than welcome! I like you even more now. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Love all of your pics of New Fantasyland and especially BoG!!
Thanks!

Just when I felt like I really didn't need to eat there, you come here with a fabulous review. :rotfl2: Now, I think we really are going to have to eat there next year even if it's just for lunch. I have to see that place!
Go for it! The food really is very good, and it is a great addition to the lunch options in the MK.

Great (cell phone) pics of fantasyland.
Thanks

We got to walk through BOG in Nov before it officially opened. It is a beautiful restaurant. Nice to hear the food lived up to the hype. :thumbsup2
It really did. Being a QS meal, I didn't exactly have my expectations for the food set overly high, but it definitely exceeded them.

Your kids are seriously too cute! These are great pictures.
Thanks!

And I am very impressed with your cell phone photography in Fantasyland. It's such a beautiful area although it looks a tad more crowded in your pics than when I visited in October.
Things were still and the lighting must have been perfect. I was amazed they came out as well as they did. It was definitely getting a little bit crowded that day.

BOG also looks spectacular inside. DH and I have a dinner ADR in June. As much as I would like to try lunch, I don't relish the thought of waiting in line. I'll eventually get around to it.
I'm sure you'll love it. I probably wouldn't be too eager to wait in the line for lunch if you already have an ADR scheduled, but if the line isn't too bad, I also wouldn't have a problem eating there twice in a trip. :rotfl2:

Great update!
Thanks!

I just recently found your trip report when I was browsing around looking for more reading to feed my WDW addiction. :) Love the update of BoG! We aren't going for what seems like a loooooooooooooooong time, but it looks great!!
:welcome:
Thanks! BoG is fantastic. Actually I think it probably lived up to the hype as much or more than the rest of the exapansion.

I had to post (I have to say, I am usually a lurker on LOTS of trip reports....I should post more often!) because I saw that you said your sister is applying to vet school! My DH is in his second year of vet school at U of Illinois. I remember the application process all too well....that last interview is exciting! Did she apply to a lot of schools? Good luck to her!!!!!
Well, I'm glad you posted! She actually only applied to Purdue. She graduated with her BS in Animal Science in 2008, and since then, has worked on a horse farm breaking thoroughbreds and doing hippotherapy with some kids they bring out... in addition to doing all the other dirty work around the barns. For the pay she was making and the hours she was working, she decided a couple of years ago she needed to do something else. Through her work on the horse farm, she has made some connections with some local veteranarians, and actually got to do a little bit of work with a couple of them as kind of a job shadowing thing to see if she was really into it. One of those veteranarians used to sit on the admission board for the vet school. And he's DW's cousin... :rolleyes1

Sounds great! DH was going to apply to Purdue, but they required one class that he didn't have, so he skipped that one. Good luck to her...sounds like her connections are awesome. :) I hope it goes really well!! :goodvibes

I truly regret not eating at BoG on our trip. I'm hoping next time we'll be able to eat here because it looks amazing inside. And the food sounds delicious!

What kind of phone do you have?! It takes marvelous pictures. I would say almost as good as your camera!

It was our last full day in the parks

Oh… wait… you’re not leaving yet

:woohoo:

Bring on the day!

Not the best use of a QS credit, but better than leaving them unused.

No… the best use of a QS credit is still the Flame Tree, but that wasn’t very handy to where you were located and not everyone sees barbequed ribs as breakfast.

I do… but then again, I’m not what most folks would consider to be “normal”.

We got to the TTC and the line for the monorail was fairly long, but there was a Ferry pulling up to the dock, so we decided to take a boat ride.

It’s a better experience in my opinion anyway.
Especially if there’s a crazy long line for the rail.

8489622964_83aaa9dc19.jpg

That’s a good one!

Aaaaand… that’s a great one.

BoG was already lined up back across the bridge at 10 am. It was really kind of crazy, they had the line for BoG forming from one end of the bridge and the line for Gaston forming from the other end and they kind of merged into a mass in the middle of the bridge.

Whoa… that’s just wacky.
We really want to try BoG the next time we’re down there, but like any other new venue… you’ll end up paying for the privilege in one form or another.

We decided to ride Haunted Mansion since DW and I hadn’t ridden it yet. We weren’t too sure how DS would take it…

…we got into the hallway with the ghosts banging on the doors… and the ride came to a stop. He didn’t freak out, but he sat with his hands over his eyes.

A reasonable response (from his point of view) :lmao:

I was worried that we’d have a problem, but thankfully the ride took off with a delay of only a couple of minutes. He kept his hands over his eyes for the rest of the ride, but then as we walked outside he said “that was fun!” :confused3

:rotfl2:
He should really like it the next time then
(when he actually sees the rest of the show)

We decided to go back over to BoG and see how long the line was. It was no longer than when I checked earlier,

So it’s pretty consistent then.
You’re going to wait, but it about the same wait no matter when you hit it.

The set up they have for lunch there is incredible! I love how you just walk up to the station and wave your rose next to it and place your order.

Sounds like they’ve made the experience as entertaining as possible.
That’ll help with the wait when we get there.

The meal was delicious. No, we didn’t take food pictures. Although I wish we had, even at lunch, they put some effort into presentation here. As for the entrees, Sis and I had the steak sandwich, Dad had the braised pork, DW had the carved turkey and Mom had the Croque Monsieur.

Yum…

For dessert, I had the triple chocolate cupcake.

What? No one asked for some of the Grey Stuff?

In the end, we had about a 50 minute wait from the time we got in line to the time we were actually eating. With the line kind of broken up between the outdoors portion, indoors portion and the ordering area, it really didn’t feel quite that long.

Now that I here it, that’s really not so bad.
At the better TS spots you’ll wait a while just to be seated and then you have to order and wait for the meal. There appears to be more then enough here to make the wait pleasant, even if you’re standing the whole time (but we’re all Dis Vets here… we can out “stand” your average tourist without even breaking a sweat).

 Can you figure out what substance it's made of and re-build everything in your house with it?

It appears to have been anvils.
That’ll make for an interesting building material.

The house might sink into the Indiana soil under its own weight.
:lmao:

I truly regret not eating at BoG on our trip. I'm hoping next time we'll be able to eat here because it looks amazing inside. And the food sounds delicious!
I'm really glad we did it, despite the wait. It was well worth it!

What kind of phone do you have?! It takes marvelous pictures. I would say almost as good as your camera!
I have a Motorola Razr M. It does fine as long as the lighting is good and there is basically no movement. As you can tell from some of the BoG pictures, when the lighting is a little less than perfect, it doesn't do such a good job. I actually used to have a Motorola Droid Bionic and I loved that camera. I swear I could take just as good of a picture with that as we could with DW's camera.

Oh… wait… you’re not leaving yet

:woohoo:

Bring on the day!
Too soon, but not yet. :thumbsup2

BBQ ribs are good any time of day. :thumbsup2

I prefer the monorail, myself, but definitely not when it is lined up like that.

That’s a good one!

Aaaaand… that’s a great one.
Thanks! Pretty sure I didn't take either one, but thanks. :rotfl2:

Whoa… that’s just wacky.

::yes::

:rotfl2:

(when he actually sees the rest of the show)
Well, I guess we'll just see whenever we get back that way.

So it’s pretty consistent then.
You’re going to wait, but it about the same wait no matter when you hit it.
Well, I've heard that if you get in line around 1 or later, it is considerably shorter. But since we had an ADR scheduled for just a few hours after 1, that wasn't exactly going to work.

Sounds like they’ve made the experience as entertaining as possible.
That’ll help with the wait when we get there.
::yes:: The line is a bit of an experience in itself. It really beats sitting in the lobby of an Olive Garden for 30 - 45 minutes on a Friday night waiting for a table. :confused3

::yes::

What? No one asked for some of the Grey Stuff?
Well, it wasn't on the menu. My understanding is that it is only offered during dinner for people with special celebrations. Or at least that was the case when they first opened the place. I've heard since then that it has become a little more available.

Now that I here it, that’s really not so bad.

It wasn't bad at all. Better than the wait for the old Dumbo. :rotfl2::lmao:

It appears to have been anvils.
That’ll make for an interesting building material.

:lmao:
Nah, it would probably smash through the floor first. :rotfl:

I'm beginning to think that iPhone cameras suck. Well at least the iPhone 4 does. DH just recently got the new Nokia Lumia and the picture quality is excellent.

Its been great getting caught up on your TR. We just returned from our Cruise/WDW a few days ago, and seeing your pics have brought back a flood of memories from our trip.

We had such a great time, and seeing your BoG experience reminds me alot of ours - it truly is an amazing and immersive dining experience (and pretty much the best QS deal in the resort, if you ask me). We also loved Enchanted Tales with Belle... we hit it one night right after Wishes and only waited 20 minutes. It was truly one of the highlights of our trip - our Belle was pretty amazing... needless to say there were several adults in the library wiping tears from their eyes when it was over.

Wish I lived closer so I could begin planning our next trip... but a trip to the DLR in October with just the wife may be just what the doctor ordered.... :goodvibes

Thanks for the awesome TR, and enjoy planning your next trip!

Just wanted to pop in to say hi, and I'm sorry I'm behind on everyone's TRs, but things are crazy around here. I had some meetings late in the week and will be at a conference for a couple of days next week so i might take a while to get my next update here posted.

Earlier this week I mentioned I was looking forward to watching the girls HS basketball team play in the semi state game today... Well, that ain't happening. DD and DS both decided to get the flu. So basically, no game for me and I'll be spending our anniversary home with the kids while DW takes her cheerleaders to the game. Fun weekend... Hopefully they'll win so I can at least watch them play for a state championship next week.

If the kids will give me some time to sit down in front of a computer long enough, I might try catching up with everyone, but it is just to hard to comment and reply to comments with the phone. I hope everyone else has a good weekend.

Hope your kids start feeling better. Joys of parenthood, right? :)

We're having one of those of our own this morning as DS fell and has a small laceration right above his lip. In the ED right now about to get one suture.

I've never had an iPhone, but I've always had decent cameras in my phones. I have to say that I'm not a big fan of the phone I have now though. I wouldn't recommend the Razr M to anyone. I loved my Bionic, but after owning this phone, it will probably be my last Motorola.

Welcome back! I hope you had a good trip!:thumbsup2

I loved BoG. I'm glad you were able to get into Enchanted Tales. If we'd have ever caught the line that short, we definitely would have done it. It was just always ridiculous.

Wish I lived closer so I could begin planning our next trip... but a trip to the DLR in October with just the wife may be just what the doctor ordered.... :goodvibes
DLR??? Sounds like a great plan to me! :thumbsup2

Oh, it makes like interesting, doesn't it? How is he?

You might have mentioned it in your TR, but I just haven't made it that far yet. :lmao:

The kids are still sick, but so far, DW and I have both avoided it. This week is going to be ridiculous and next week won't be much better. I'm pretty sure I won't be getting any updates done this week, and next week is doubtful too. I'm just hoping to get caught up on TR's I'm following at some point.

So I sat down and read your whole TR in one go, and I have to say I'm sorry that I got in just at the very end! I did enjoy reading about your adventures and I'm so happy that you guys had such an awesome vacation (except for your poor SIL when she was sick, that was really too bad ).

Awesome BOG review! I think I'm going to take a page from your playbook and try to get in line around 11am for our May trip. Its also a less crowded time of year, and I just don't want to waste too much precious morning time waiting in line for lunch, but I don't want to miss BOG either. Its tough to strike that happy medium.

Did your family member (I don't remember who you said ordered it) enjoy the croque monsieur? That was what caught my eye because when they are done well they are excellent, but done poorly they can be really greasy. If I'm going to wait in line an hour for food, I want to make sure I choose a good entree! :rotfl2:

I'm glad you were able to stop by, I know life has been a bit hectic for you lately. We had a great trip with the exception of the little food allergy incident.

Thanks! I thought 11 am worked really well, but since I've been back, I've seen people say that if you go between 1 and 1:30 there's hardly any line at all. Something to consider, possibly. :confused3 Either way, definitely try to eat there. It is worth it even if you have to wait.

Mom had it, and she really liked it. :thumbsup2

I don't recall if it was on the greasy side or not. :confused3

I Met Somebody!

Friday, December 7

We had just finished our lunch at Be Our Guest and headed back out into the afternoon sun. I checked the Touring Plans app and saw that Barnstormer was back up and running, so I headed over to grab a couple of FP’s for later. Everyone else stopped to ride the Teacups while I did that.

After we met back up, we decided to stop by Cosmic Rays to grab DS something to eat. DW took him inside to get some chicken nuggets or something, but he said he didn’t want anything. Apparently he ate too many fries and goldfish at BoG, so she decided it wasn’t worth it to waste money on food he probably wasn’t going to eat anyway.

We hadn’t done the Peoplemover yet, and since this was our last day in the MK and we were in the area, we decided to go take care of that. DD seemed to enjoy herself.

8519356170_789e35cba7.jpg

After our ride, Mom, Dad and Sis2 decided they wanted to ride Carousel of Progress. It was time for our Barnstormer FP’s so we decided to part ways with them and head off in that direction. DW and I each took turns riding with DS. It is a shame that he’ll have to have his own ticket and his own FP next time. I’m sure he’ll miss getting those extra rides.

We still hadn’t had a chance to ride the train or meet the main mouse yet, so we decided to take the train to Main Street. We just left the stroller parked in Storybook Circus because we planned to get back on the train and ride it all the way around after we met Mickey. As we were walking along the platform looking for a seat, DW says let’s sit with them. I didn’t see who she was talking about until I finally noticed she was pointing at Mom, Dad and Sis2. We sat in their row and shared our plans with them. They decided they’d get off at Main Street to meet Mickey with us. They told us that CoP was closed when they went there and Sis2 wanted to ride Splash Mountain again. They walked across to Frontierland only to find that Splash was closed as well. They just decided to hop on the train since they hadn’t ridden it yet either.

We got to MS and the posted wait for Mickey was 10 minutes. I guess I’ve never said this about a character meet before, but it was a walk on. We walked right in and met Mickey right away. DS walked right up to him and it was a very nice meet. We had plenty of time, so we got pictures of DS, pictures of the 4 of us, and a few group pictures with everyone.

8519363044_31e9227eeb.jpg

After we met Mickey, DW and I took the kids to the restrooms to change diapers, while everyone else got back on the train. After I finished changing DS’ diaper, I got the idea to head over to the theater to see who the princesses were. I had done no princess related research, because we didn’t really have plans to meet them, but in the few weeks prior to the trip, DW and DS had been watching Tangled just about every evening before bedtime. He loved the movie… mostly Maximus, but he liked Rapunzel too. I got a CM to confirm that Rapunzel was one of the princesses, so I headed over to get some FP’s for later.

We got back on the train and rode back over to Storybook Circus to get the stroller. Our princess FP’s came with a bonus Dumbo FP, but the timing on it just wasn’t going to work out. We would have had to wait 30 minutes for the Dumbo FP's to be good and by the time we’d walk back up to the front of the park, it would be time to meet the princesses anyway.

We headed back up to the front of the park. We kind of took our time, because this was going to be the last time we’d see the MK this trip. I always hate that feeling. We walked through the castle and just kind of lingered in the hub. We made our way up MS when I realized that our slow leisurely walk had put DS to sleep.

8519433890_0ff75f4570.jpg

We got back up to the Theater and it was time to make the tough call. Do we risk waking up a sleeping 2 year old, not knowing what kind of angel or monster might wake up just so he can meet Rapunzel, or do we just eat the FP’s and leave?

Well, in an effort to win parent of the year, I naturally grabbed him out of the stroller and started talking to him. He hadn’t been asleep for long, and when he woke up he said that he did want to see Rapunzel. That was good enough for me, so we headed into the line. He wanted to be carried, but we made him walk through the queue so that he wouldn’t be half asleep when we got to the front of the line.

We got to Rapunzel, and she was kneeling down on the ground already from the child she was with before us. When it was our turn, DS didn’t walk to her. He ran straight into her arms. It was great that he was excited to see her, but I have to say I was a little bit disappointed with her. She just didn’t really seem comfortable interacting with him, and didn’t really seem to “act like” Rapunzel. She did give him a kiss on the cheek at the end, but I think she was a little surprised when he returned the favor. I wish they’d have gotten a picture of that one.:lmao: I’m glad we got to see her though. Even though the look on his face the PP pictures doesn’t really convey it, he was really excited to meet her.

8518248959_9ec77aa885.jpg

Up next was Aurora. DS had absolutely no idea who she was. We’d never watched Sleeping Beauty with him, and he isn’t exactly princess crazy, but she was done with the child before him and she came over while he was still with Rapunzel and took his hand to lead him over to her area. For DS not really knowing her story, he really warmed up to her quickly. She was excellent. She really seemed to enjoy the fact that there was a little boy there to see the princesses and unlike Rapunzel, she sat and just chatted with him for a while. I have no idea what they were talking about, but it must have been something good.

By the time Aurora finished with us, Cinderella had been hanging around waiting for us for a little bit already. She took DS by the hand and led him over to her area once he finished with Aurora. She curtsied and tried to get him to bow, but he just wasn’t getting it. Thankfully there is no photographic evidence of this, but I showed him how to do it and he just looked at me like I’m an idiot. Not even three years old and he already thinks I'm a dork.

He had seen her movie a few times, so he knew who she was and they had a nice conversation. DD came over to join in on the fun and Cinderella commented about how she’d lost her slippers too.

We finished meeting Cinderella and walked outside just in time to see the 3 o’clock parade. I don’t know what time it was, but it had to be getting late in the afternoon and we had an ADR in EPCOT we’d have to get to soon.

DS seemed pretty excited about seeing the princesses he’d just met riding on a float in the parade. After the noise from the parade passed, DW called her mom. They talked for a little bit and then she gave DS the phone. They chatted for a little bit and then DW told him to tell her who he’d just met. He said “I met Rapunzel, and I met Cinderella, and I met… somebody!” I guess we’ll have to watch Sleeping Beauty one of these days.

We decided to go grab some cinnamon rolls at the bakery for breakfast the next morning. I took the stroller and headed into the bakery, while DW went to the Emporium to grab a few things she couldn’t find at Mouse Gears. After I got our cinnamon rolls, I decided to just walk around the MK and soak up the last few minutes I’d have there while she shopped. I walked around the hub, and over past the Hall of Presidents before looping around through Frontierland and Adventureland. I was just walking past Casey’s and getting ready to head across Main Street for one last lap through Tomorrowland when my phone rang. DW was done shopping and ready to leave. I slowly and sadly walked down MS towards the exit. It seemed like we had just got there and we were already leaving MK for the last time.

We were headed to EPCOT and DW and I both love riding the monorail into EPCOT. We considered just taking the monorail and coming back to the TTC for the car later that night, but the monorail out of service, as it seemingly had been for most of the trip, so we got on the Ferry and decided to just drive to EPCOT.

I have to admit when I first read the title of this chapter I thought "his wife is going to be mad"

How cute are those princess pictures? I'm dying here. Simply adorable.

Characters and shopping? You guys were starting to tour like us! :lmao:

Seemed like the monorail was down or stalling for most of our last trip. Disappointing.

Yeah, I hate that feeling of leaving MK for the last time on a trip more so than any other park. Which is why I've gotten in the habit of spending our departure days in MK and scheduling our return home flight as late in the evening as possible. Great update! I miss the days when Flynn was meeting with Rapunzel. Flynn was awesome.

I know... scary, isn't it? :faint:

Really though, that's how I like to do it. Big time commando touring during the first part of the trip to get all the rides in, then a little bit slower at the end of the week to do all the other stuff. :thumbsup2

I had considered saving the MK for Saturday, but I think TP had it at like an 8 or 9. None of the other days were even remotely close to that, and the other parks were all lighter for Saturday, so that's why we planned it like we did.

I would have done the same thing. :thumbsup2 Magic Kingdom on a Saturday is less magical than a visit on a Friday.

Haha I thought the same thing as Shan23877! I was expecting some drama to occur in this update and i'm glad there's not :thumbsup2

Very cool that your son was up to meeting the Princesses. I can't wait to start showing DS my collection of Disney movies once he's old enough to understand.

Can't wait to hear about your ADR over at Epcot!

Maybe I should think about my update titles a little more from now on... :rolleyes1

He really had a blast with them. We've been updating the collection as they've come out with the Blu-Ray disks lately. I tried showing DS Peter Pan before our trip, but all I had was the VHS and I don't know if it was the tape or our VCR, but the picture was pretty choppy.

Can't wait to hear about your ADR over at Epcot!
It's one of my favorites! :thumbsup2

Aw, what a great chapter! I'm glad that you had some good interaction with Cinderella and somebody, even if Rapunzel wasn't too chatty. You got some really good pictures.
