I'm one of those people who likes to be in bed by 9:00 p.m., turns off the TV and lights by 10:00 and gets up at 7:00 a.m. I really need my sleep or I'll be tired and cranky the whole next day.

So the Olympics have been on every night until midnight and I love the Winter Olympics, especially figure skating. I know I could go to bed at my regular time, but it's just too tempting to stay up late and watch the action. It's no fun to record it and watch it the next day because by then you already know the results.

Anyone else a walking zombie this week because of compulsive Olympic-watching?

It's one of the things that sucks about the west coast this time around. They are waiting to start everything until primetime, even though we could be watching everything hours earlier.

Yes, I call this syndrome "Olympics-induced insomnia".

It's a heavy price we sports addicts must pay.

Okay, the only thing I took away from your post was that you normally get 9 hours of sleep a night! Really?! I don't know how my body would function with 9 hours. I normally clock 5 hours and Monday night got 3.5 (not by choice).

So, back to your question. No, I do not have Olympic induced insomnia.

It is wearing me down a little too...I normally go to bed at 11 and read a little but am asleep by 11:30. With the Olympics on til 12 I don't read to wind down adn then it takes me longer to fall asleep. I get up at 6:15 so I am going on 6 hours of sleep opposed to 7....not a huge deal for a day or two but it is starting to wear on me.

That is what a DVR is for.

I already have to much crap on my DVR to weed out. If I taped the Olympics they too would just sit there. :rotfl:

Work is getting in my way, not to mention a 4 year old that expects to be feed, bathed and entertained!! :confused3

Yep, I try to get 9 hours but it doesn't always happen. I really can't function on less than 8. It's the way I've always been. When my kids were younger, I got less sleep but now that they're older (14 and 11), they're more self-sufficient (I'm not feeding them, bathing them, etc.). I get a lot done in the evenings like making lunches and laying out clothes for the next day. I hate the morning "I can't find any socks" dramas so I have eliminated them completely.

I realize that some people simply can't sleep as much as they'd like due to jobs and other responsibilities. I'm fortunate that our schedules right now allow me go to bed early. It's just those dang Olympics that are keeping me up!

It's only a couple weeks more. You'll be more proud of yourself for watching it rather than going to sleep. And it gives you something to talk about with every one, so nothing is a "spoiler".

I'm a walking zombie. Normally I go to bed at 10pm and get up at 4:30 (6.5 hrs sleep), DS is on the ice at 6am everyday except Sunday. I go to the gym for an hour then drive to work or school and am on the go all day.

This week I am going to bed just after 12:30, getting up at 5am, only 30min to get ready and out the door, skipping the gym, driving to school or work and napping in my car for an hour.

Who would have thought that the Olympics could be so unhealthy.

It's just not the same as live when it's sports.

Exactly.

DS and I were watching the men's figure skating long program last night. We were watching one of the earlier skaters, not from the US, and DS said, "Fast forward this, Mom, it is boring."

I told him this was LIVE and I can't fast forward real life.

It's just not the same as live when it's sports.

Even the live sports I DVR. Most of the sports I watch are played in Europe and the time difference is killer or the games are on while I am at work. I just avoid the scores. If it is a sport like baseball or cycling where there are a bunch of commercial breaks I would rather DVR it and skip the commercials then watch it in real time.

I hear you!!!! I've been sick on top of it & rest is DEFINITELY something I am in desperate need of...as far as a DVR goes-yeah that's a good idea, but when you get the results before you see it it kinda spoils it....

I wish I were on the West Coast! I've been trying to watch the Olympics, especially the figure skating. But, I turn on the TV, wait and wait - more luge, cross country skiing etc. and no figure skating. :confused3 What time are they starting the skating? It's got to be after 7 p.m. PST. I just can't keep my eyes open after 10 p.m. I missed the mens completely. I'm not a happy camper.

Count me in as another one who's being killed by staying up late. :happytv:

I did make it up to the end of the Men's Figure Skating last night. But I went in for a root canal this morning and specifically asked for the nitrous oxide so I could make up the hour of sleep I missed last night.

Let me just say I am glad it is Friday! I was at a basketball game last night and stayed up until the figure skating was over to see how that turned out, and then we watched some of the stuff we DVRd. The morning came way too fast. LOL!

Those of us on the West Coast aren't doing any better! The Olympics are happening in our time zone, but NBC isn't showing any of the big events until primetime from 8:00 p.m. - midnight. We had to stay up until after midnight to see the end of men's figure skating too! Even the East Coast is seeing it 3 hours before we are! It's crazy.
