Morning!

It's raining, again...

Today I have a Race for the Cure meeting. Last one until Race on Saturday morning.

I have some jeans I need to take back that I bought for DS and I may want to buy some more shoes for me. For some reason, it just seems I need a lot of shoes this year. Not sure what that is about. It's not like my foot grew. Anywho, a girl can always use more shoes. Right?

I am so looking forward to wearing my rain boots!

The Star Wars in Concert sounds like something Ethan would love, and it is coming to the Place in Auburn Hills... I'm going to check it out today too. Thanks for all the info.

Mari - Congrats on the great grades. But we knew you would do well.

Speaking of A's...guess who just brought home two as well. Yep Ethan received one on a social studies project and on his last spelling test. So either the teacher has realised she was being a little hard, and/or we've finally got Ethan back on the ball.

Now Emmy on the other hand...it's been a rough week with my 5 year old. She has been defiant and a little lippy, even her teacher mentioned she's not like her happy self. I have to figure out how to curb this and find my happy obedient girl again. Oh the struggles of parenting! You get one on track and the other derails.

I often fill the ole "get one back on track" thing. I swear, what would I do with more than two. Children go thru phases. Chloe was absolutely perfect until she turned 3. Somewhere during her year of life as a 3 year old, she did things she NEVER did before. She even hid behind a tree at preschool and didn't go in after recess. She just told the teacher later when they found her she wasn't finished playing.

Just stick with it and she will shape up in no time.

I also think as children want to become more independent, they become a little defiant. At least that seems like some of the struggles that we have had over the years. I had a little bit of that with Chris this summer, but now it has blown over. He is probably a little more independent than he was before and has a little more responsibility.

I've been keeping up here a couple times a day- just haven't written.

I'm going thru one of those "I am sick of spending all my time on the internet" weeks.

Y'all know how I get.

Nothing much going on here. We are getting a little rain, nothing major like the rest of you though.

My feeling weren't hurt at all Mari! I'm glad you Mayers had room for one more Congrats on your papers! I'm glad you're doing so well- it's hard work! I thought for a little while about going back for my masters. It was a very short thought.

Not a bad day here. Everyone's napping and no one has spit up on me today. Nothing is worse than smelling like baby spit up! Plus I've had time to DIS. No complaints here today .

I have 2 FT and 2 PT, so 4 depending on the day. I just started doing this last Sept and with the economy it's been a slow go picking up kids but it beats putting my DD in daycare and me having to be back in the classroom with 30 first graders again! It's actually the first job I've actually really enjoyed. I get to wear sweats and there's no traffic going to work- just a few steps to get downstairs
Today I have 4 ranging from 10 months to 3yrs. (plus my DD and DS is in school) and it's all about the routines! I have a set schedule throughout the day. They know what's happening at all times. Breakfast, bus stop, freeplay, snack, circle time, outside, lunch, story, nap, snack, outside/bus stop, freeplay. That's my day in a nutshell. At nap I play soft music and turn out the lights. Routines work for me most of the time. Not every day works out like this though .

That is exactly what I needed to hear this morning. Thank you for letting me know I am not alone.

Like Chloe, Emily did a bit of a disappearing act on her teacher yesterday, hiding under the desk and refusing to come out and participate...which is just not like her. She then loudly stated she just wanted to be left alone.
For the rest of the day she was very whinny, and pretended she couldn't put her own shoes on, or hold her pencil and other very silly and frustrating things. Which stopped her from being able to go out for recess or participate in class activities.

I talked to her teacher last night.

I just don't know what got into her.
But she has made me second guess myself and the move and the switch in schools. I have never had a problem like this before.

They all go through those phases Lake. Don't second guess yourself. DS10 used to refuse to do his work in 1st grade because he thought it would be too hard. When it all actuality it probably was too easy for him considering that he is in advanced classes now. The main thing is going to be how the teacher handles it. If the teacher does not respond well and can not be bothered you are likely going to have a problem. If the teacher is kind and caring and tries to figure out what is going on then things should get turned around in no time!

Hey all..... Long day in school today...... holy moly guys where did fall go.... here it went from 80 degree weather straight to 40..... it's SOOOOOO COLD!!!!!!!!!!!! and it's raining and it's suppose to rain until monday.... I'm gonna HATE it....

Off to do a paper that is due on tuesday... i hope you guys have a great night...

Well, it really may have more to do with her maturing than the move. When Chloe pulled her disappearing act, I couldn't think of a single thing that had changed to cause her to do it.

Lake, I swear, I either think my kids are going to prison or that they are going to win the Nobel Peace Prize. About the time I think there is nothing more that they can do to embarass or humilate me or that I have them all straight and on the right track. BAM!!!! They do something ridiculous. And then the next week, they are citizen of the week at school.

So here is my night tonight, for instance... Chris missed 3 weeks of football due to his arm injury and an extreme asthma flare-up. Monday was his first day back at football, practice or game. It was rainy that morning and I asked if he thought he would play at the game that night. Well, he didn't think he would be in on ANY plays. So I stayed home. Well, he STARTED and played EVERY offensive play. On the one hand I am happy for him, on the other I want to rip his head off because he didn't text me he was starting.

So, tonight he had a game. I asked him this morning if he was starting or playing. NOPE, not playing or starting. So, I didn't go and volunteered at Race for the Cure tonight. Well, he did play. Not every offensive play but enough that his shins were coated with mud. And guess what else... He was TEAM CAPTAIN tonight. Don't ya think a mother would have LOVED to have been there? And he found out on MONDAY that he would be TEAM CAPTAIN....

So anyway, she will snap out of this, about the time she does Ethan will flare up and then it will be calm and then they will both screw up again.

The important thing is that they have a mom who loves them and is worried when they do silly things. So just keep loving them and urging them back on track. My son nicknamed me last year the "Relentless Encourager." This nickname of course came after being called something like the "Never-ending Nag" to which I said you have to come up with something positive! I like "Relentless Encourager" and even said I was going to get a Wonder Woman like suit with my name across the chest. Chris just said whatever you do mom, don't wear it up to my school. To which I said, "Don't give me a reason too."

Oh, and the other thought I had was maybe Emily could be a classroom helper for a couple of days. Of course the teacher would need to talk to her first thing before she has a chance to get into trouble. Maybe the extra attention and responiblity of helping would get her back on track. Just a thought.

Shelly--- yep- internet boycott. You know I do it about 3x a year. Thanks for wanting to send out the MAYer signal to check on me. Kind of like a Bat Phone.



Okay- I have to share the name of the book I'm reeading- it deals with children and their whole attitude and life in general. It's called "Have a New Kid By Friday", by Dr. Kevin Leman.

It's good for children from age 2 right on up to their twenties and beyond. Heck- i think I'm going to use some of his principles on Mark if he steps outta line.

In general- my kids are really easy-- we've been pretty rigid in disciplining them. But Belle is the one that tests us- b/c she is the baby- and, well, let's face it-- you mellow with age and each kid has it a bit easier than the one before.
WEll- on Wednesday- she mouthed off to me. And instead of getting angry- I used this book's principle.

IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE.

I've never seen her so sorry for doing something in my life. In fact- yesterday, she came home with an "I'm sorry" note she had made. This is so unlike her. She always acts, I react, then she waltzes out of the room grinning- getting her way. Not this time.


I urge all of you to get the book. You can buy it on Amazon.
It truly is working and I am amazed how simple it is.


Okay- now that I've done my commercial..........

I'm off today to an arts and crafts fair that happens every year, twice a year. The first time we moved here- the town was so small that the kids would get two days off of school for it. Now the town's grown, so it's not so country. But the fair is a lot of fun.

Looks like I may be headed to the book store...lol

I hear ya Mari. We woke to snow this morning. Yes, snow on October 16th. That is pretty much unheard of. What's the deal??? Two weeks ago it was beautiful, sunny, and a warm 75 degrees. Then bam it's in the low 50's, then 40's, now 30's. Where were the nice fall days of 60-65???

I too, will be checking into this miracle book. DD7 is starting to "assert herself" a bit more lately, and she's always been the easy one! I need a new plan!!!

I've read other parenting books, but it seems like none of them had anything for this tween-type age group. It was either for toddlers or for out of contol teens. It sounds like this is exactly what I need. I spend WAAAAYYY too much time fighting with my kids. Terrible.

Jo- I may be hitting the book store too. I've heard Dr. Leman's books are lifesavers. I was just hoping not to need them. All of you with older kids are scaring me for what's to come! DS is just starting in the back talk phase and I'm not liking it too much. DD is the one that worries me. She's stubborn and bullheaded sometimes- I have NO idea where she gets those qualities from DH calls her my little twin sometimes. Not funny.
