These are NOT the rooms that I paid for! 3 Resorts in 10 days - Trivia Answers 9/3

Oh my word. I am so excited for BOG, even the mediocre food can't make me relax! (Though I am glad I've heard that before, now my expectations won't be impossibly high for the food!)
But those cupcakes. Man, I was licking my screen, the lemon looks/sounds so good! I just hope DH will get something different and agree to share!
How awesome that you got the tour as they closed! What a job they did, the decor is stunning.
Loved theDisneyland excursion! If Em writes about her solo adventures, will you share the link? :)

I enjoyed your BOG review.... even though the food is not great we have a reservation there in August I am looking forward to, it was a must do for my DD and she is very excited about it, although now I am a little sad we won't be participating in the cupcakes, I ordered a surprise mini cake for her birthday. It is my goal to make it to Beaches and Cream at some point this trip the ice cream pictures always look so great :)

Great updates Brenda! Your interaction with Gaston was priceless, loved the video!

I had the grilled cheese and tomato bisque at B&C on our last trip and really enjoyed it too. Em's pot roast sandwich looks good, but rather heavy. And let's face it, everything is really just a prelude to the REAL reason we go there ... dessert! :worship:

Thanks so much for the detailed review of BoG! I loved all the pictures of the interior of the restaurant, it truly looks like it would totally immerse you in the movie. Sorry the food (other than dessert) was kind of lacklustre, but it sounds like the experience makes up for it. We have ADR's there in October and I can't wait to see it! :goodvibes

Loved the DL update, looks like everyone had a great time. :thumbsup2

I really should know better then to take months of from dis. I'm caught up. Still an amazing trip. I laugh at 50 being cold. I remember thinking that once abound a time. When I lived in So Calif. Living here in IA now and people were pulling out jackets this weekend. Really I have no idea how they make it threw the winter.

After reading your reviews and seeing your pics of BOG thinking may just have to stop for a cupcake then a meal.

Love seeing DL pics. It has been over 23 years since i was last there.

Hi Sandy! Thanks for getting caught up and reading along! :goodvibes

Keep in mind that I'm a cold weather wimp so 50 degrees for us and I'm bundled up. It must be a So Ca thing! Being a transplant to Iowa it looks like you have acclimated to colder climates.

Cupcakes and rolls - it's a great meal at BoG! :rotfl:

Thanks, it's a pleasure to share the DL updates as well.

Wonderful update!

Why thank you wiii! :)

Ooooh you're a posting superstar lately. No complaints from me though! :thumbsup2

It's too bad your food wasn't to your liking, but really glad the atmosphere made up for it. The place looks so amazing. I know I have to eat there someday.

A picture with the Beast is definitely on my bucket list.

Oh look... Em's feeling up another statue! :rotfl2: Somebody needs to watch her children!!

If I wasn't convinced before I sure am now...The 2 of you are without a doubt Disney royalty! princess: princess:

Love finned Ariel!!!

Given your Disney royalty status I honestly expected that sword to move.

Make sure to post a link (even though I'm sure you would anyway) if/when Em does a TR!!!

I so love these little side reports from D-Land. :lovestruc

On a slightly unrelated note, are you planning on attending a Christmas Party in December? Just curious. :rolleyes1

Heck I have to compete with someone else here who is updating two trip reports at a mad pace! :rolleyes1 Seriously, I need to wrap this thing up in the next two weeks so I'm trying to pick up the pace.

The problem with BoG was entirely ME! ;) I'm going to give them a break and not blame them for me ordering a lame side salad. But honestly, it was a fabulous experience and I'm looking forward to eating there again.

About that statue...you've got it all wrong. He was so proud of his 6 pack abs that he invited a feel of his quads as well. Yeah, we'll go with that one otherwise I have to admit that my kid has a serious problem.

And finned Ariel loves you!

Honestly, it's just as well that we weren't able to pull the sword out because it's such a pain to get through airport security with those things!

Certainly, I'll let you know! For now you'll have to check out her awesome photo skills with her dining review if you haven't already. (Pimping my kid here ya know!)

Yes, we are doing the MVMCP one of the nights we are there and doing CP dining x 2. We'll buy you a ticket if you want to join us! Em and I are meeting up with several Diser's in December. I think we even have titles - Disney Dining Divas. :flower3: (Rachel, you're in the club!)

I will be trying Be Our Guest for the first time in October and it's good to hear that you enjoyed the atmosphere and themes. That's how I'm approaching this dinner in that I have high expectations for how the restaurant looks and feels and low expectations for the food. :goodvibes

Love your pictures at the Blue Bayou! I really wanted to try it during my 1.5 day whirlwind tour of DLR but couldn't find time to fit that meal in. I did have time though after the parks closed for Napa Rose at the Chef's Counter. It was excellent!

Hi Dave! Given a better menu choice (let's be honest, how exciting could a side salad be?) you should be fine for both the meal and the awesome theming. I look forward to hearing what you think!

It had been several years since we'd been to Blue Bayou but this was unexpectedly good. I crashed Em's solo dining experience there since she had a reservation for 1 but of course 1 means a table for 4 there. :)

That's awesome that you did the Chef's Counter at Napa Rose. Coming up I have a quick update for our dinner there. (spoiler alert: loved it!)

Another updating machine (MEK was the other). Loved your updates from Disneyland.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy BOG more than you did. We've eaten there twice and had wonderful meals both times (and I'll be back there in 18 days). You should have had the french onion soup....it was very, very good.

Dessert is always a good choice. We loved the West Wing except for it being so dark.

I saw Mary Ellen's 20 updates for Savannah! :rotfl2: I'm trying to get this thing done before August 16th... You know what happens on that day!!!

Funny you mention the French onion soup. I should have ordered that since I love it but I had ordered it at Chefs a few days prior so I was looking for something else. I won't make that mistake again! Glad you endorse it!

Hi! I'm a relatively new DISer who has finally caught up with your awesome TR! All the room upgrades you received were fantastic. We were upgraded from a standard room at POR to a one bedroom villa at OKW and it was an amazing experience! I definitely have to check out Emily's DR next, you guys ate at so many awesome places!

Hi Courtneybelle! Welcome to the Disboards and thank you so much for reading along! :)

I'm glad that you've experienced the Disney magic of pixie dust as well!

Eating is a great hobby or ours! :rotfl2: There's something about vacation eating at WDW!

Love the pics of the blue bayou. My DD wants very badly to eat there since we can't do club 33. Lol
She played vmk until they shut it down and loved the mock up on the game. We are headed to DL (finally, this trip was postponed for 3 years) next July 2014.
Thank you for sharing!!

Hi Jeanne! Well, if you can't do Club 33 then why not eat next door? It was a great experience.

I vaguely recall something about vmk but I'm not clear on what that is. :confused3 But hey, that is exciting to have a DL trip on the horizon!!!

What an amazing personal experience at BOG. I would have felt like royalty with the whole restaurant to myself. Your trip has been awe inspiring so far. I cannot wait to hear more.

Hi Kristin! We had perfect timing with such a late dinner reservation otherwise we wouldn't have been so lucky. :)

Thanks for reading! :flower3:

How cool that you were able to have a tour of BOG. The imagineers seemed to have really hit it out of the ballpark with New Fantasyland and BOG.

You, Em, and Ariel look so lovely "under the sea."

I do hope Em writes a TR for DLR.

Hi Ashley! I wish I could recall all the factoids that were shared but of course, that was months ago at this point combined with the fact that I'm old and forgetful and there you go! I know there were more hidden Mickey's.

Thanks! Ariel is Em's favorite so we had to see her!

Em really wants to do a mini TR from our DCH stay so I’ll keep you posted.

While I'm very bummed to hear that the food at beast's castle is meh, I'm glad you had such a nice server!! I need to go with you and meet all of these fun people! ;) meeting the beast looks fun. I met him once in epcot & he was just so cute. What a lovely memory of dancing with him! So adorable.

I cannot wait to meet ariel with a fin!! Though I do miss prince eric. She looks super cute.

Your pics of dca & disneyland are getting me even more excited about visiting soon!! You're gearing up for your wdw trip too, aren't you? So exciting!! Flo's looks so perfect. I adore the chrome kitchenettes!! That shot of you & Mickey is so cute! Love your dress! Thanks for sharing that with us here!

Cannot wait to hear more!!

Hi Jennifer! My advice for BoG is order anything other than a salad! I've heard good reviews for the pork and the steak so don't be scared! Having a photo with Beast after dinner is definitely a plus since there shouldn't be a long line.

That was a cute Ariel! I've only seen Prince Eric with Ariel in Adventureland. (He needs a better wig! ;))

I think you'll be at DLR right before we leave if I look at your ticker. How long are you here in So. Ca? (Em and I leave on the 16th for WDW.) Hmmmm ... if you have any time to meet us one evening or on a weekend, we could say hi! :wave2:

I thought the west wing was amazing. I wish I had asked to sit there instead of the main dining room. It was so cool. But i really loved the snow in the main dining room, except I was on the opposite end of the room.

I thought the food was just "meh", too. I also had that seafood entree. The crust was somewhat dry. But I did have a great server. The cool surroundings and the great server really made up for the OK food.

Great pics. Cute poses with the beast.

Mary Ellen, The ball room at BoG was beautiful. The West Wing was really dark and cold but I loved the effects. Ahhh so perhaps the seafood isn't their specialty. :) But I agree, everything else about the restaurant made it an awesome experience.

Just caught up I've been Mia from DIS... Ok that rude manager in France..what the heck. I will never understand people who work in customer service and are like that..and the champagne to make it better :(. I'm sure if you weren't on vacation you might have complained more...it sucks to bring down the mood of a good trip.

Brrr some cold days, even coming from a Canadian ;)

Love your Disneyland mini trip. So special that your husband can come and go like that. Can't wait to hear more about that resort.

Great update with BOG.. Love the beast dancin with Em

Hi Patti! Glad you are caught up. :thumbsup2

I don't think the France Manager really thought there was anything wrong and that was the problem. You can't fix what you don't acknowledge right? But heck, I got over it fairly quickly. And..... we'll even be back. We'll see how it goes next time.

Ha, the cold!! Love hearing that from a Canadian! :)

It is nice to be so close to play and stay at DL. That was a first for us being on property. (We've stayed across the street years ago.)

I've heard the Beast dances with little girls frequently but it was nice to see him give Em a twirl.

sweet potato biscuits?????????????? I must must must have!

Love both updates, BoG even if the food wasn't to die for (though the cupcakes sure look like they were!) and your work conference. What a special CM experience at BoG and I love that Beast danced with Emily!

It looked cold that night, brrr!!!!

Love the new little top, very cute!

I think I may need to ask for the West Wing, choices choices!

Hey there Cynthia! Those biscuits were soooo good. Just for you, here's a few bonus photos.

Exhibit A - full basket of biscuits/rolls

DSCN1115.jpg

And then something happened....they disappeared!
DSCN1124.jpg

Those cupcakes were tasty! I'm looking forward to another soon!

Did you plan a BoG dinner for your New Year's trip? I need to go back and check. I'm sure the Beast would LOVE to dance with you!

All caught up !! Loving your Disneyland posts as well. I have never been, but it is definitely on my bucket list !!

Susan

Hi Susan! Glad you are caught up! :) That's a good thing to have on your bucket list. ;)

Oh my word. I am so excited for BOG, even the mediocre food can't make me relax! (Though I am glad I've heard that before, now my expectations won't be impossibly high for the food!)

Hi Wendy! Be excited, it is excitement worthy!! I'm sure there are things on the menu that are worthy of dining there. And yes, those cupcakes were so good. They did a great job with those. I may have to try a cream puff as well.

I'll be sure to share if the kid starts her mini TR. She's still plugging along at her DR. :)

I enjoyed your BOG review.... even though the food is not great we have a reservation there in August I am looking forward to, it was a must do for my DD and she is very excited about it, although now I am a little sad we won't be participating in the cupcakes, I ordered a surprise mini cake for her birthday. Hi Gin! Your daughter may just dance with the beast. I think she'll love it. I'm excited to return next month too. What day are you there? We are dining there on the 26th.

Oh, I think passing up a cupcake for a special birthday cake is so much better!!

Great updates Brenda! Your interaction with Gaston was priceless, loved the video!

I had the grilled cheese and tomato bisque at B&C on our last trip and really enjoyed it too. Em's pot roast sandwich looks good, but rather heavy. And let's face it, everything is really just a prelude to the REAL reason we go there ... dessert! :worship:

Loved the DL update, looks like everyone had a great time. :thumbsup2

Hi Carol! I'm a huge B&C fan! You get a big Amen sister from me about dessert! :thumbsup2

I know you'll love BoG in October!! I'll have something to compare when we go back but even if the food is still meh, I'm willing to go for the theming. It's that incredible!

Thanks for liking the DL updates - we did have a good time - even if I had to work during the day. :)

What a lovely afternoon in EPCOT!

That is such a nice place for a leisurely stroll and dare I say especially when it is cool-ish and not raining. The World Showcase is gorgeous, but it really can be a struggle when the sun is blaring down. Or you are getting soaked by rain.

Love your pictures from your meal at 'Ohana. My, that is a pretty pina! Great glass. Have you had the Lapu Lapu? A friend who had one recently said you won't have to search for the alcohol in that one.

Someone needs to keep an eye on their kid!

What were you two thinking???

:sad2:

But on the plus side, we both have a better chance of "Mother of the Year" than the woman who abandoned her kids in the WTP line. Just sayin'!

Brenda,

VMK was an interactive game that the kids could play safely, unfortuantely Disney decided to drop it as it was only supposed to be out for a short time ;) to bad though the kids really loved it!

I'm so excited to have a DL trip on the horizon... We have never been to Walt's original, and I cant wait to see the First Disney creation.
Any helpful tips is greatly appreciated.... Your extra TR bonus's are so exciting, and have already help us!! I just love your TRs! Thank you! :worship:

Hi Brenda!

I'm fairly new here and have enjoyed reading three of your trip reports. Your photos are great and I love seeing your dining reviews. I'm jealous of your close proximity to DisneyLand. I'm a also a big Disney fan. It may be due to the fact that my birthday is July 17th!

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your meal at BOG. We're hoping to have lunch there this October, as we weren't able to score an adr for dinner. I've heard mixed reviews about the food, but I think it's worth trying.

Emily is adorable and you're lucky to have such an easygoing travel companion.

Love your BOG update :) I honestly think a lot of Disney dining is more the experience and theming. How cool you got to tour it and see everything with barely anyone there!! Also, DL looks like fun.... I really need to make it out there sooner than later!

Ha ha! I remember someone who was drenched walking around WS!

I need to try the Lapu Lapu but I better make sure I have a designated (monorail) driver since I do hear that it packs a punch!

Those little rascals!! So adorable! :cutie:

I'm looking forward to reading that story Dee! Just wow!

Thanks for helping me out there! I do recall that is had a lot of followers.

For your DL trip it shouldn't be as much planning as WDW since there's only 2 parks and they are easy to go back and forth between so you can get FP for one park and hop over to the other to do attractions and then come back. Also be sure to hit up some of the DL only attractions like Matterhorn, Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Mr. Toad, and The Columbia sailing ship. Oh, and less competition for TS dining reservations.

Thanks for reading! :)

Hi Annie and welcome. Thank you so much for reading - all 3!

You have an AWESOME Birthday! That is very memorable!

I almost think a lunch experience (other than the wait) is just as good as dinner but next time I'll order something different and see how it goes. Definitely worth trying! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the kid compliment! Em has always been such a quiet even tempered kid so being a teen I was pleased to see that didn't change. Certainly makes for a pleasant travel companion. ;)

I agree Sarah! The mediocre food did not take away from the dining experience at BoG. We were lucky to have such a late dinner otherwise we wouldn't have had the same experience.

Wow, you certainly were an honored guests in the Beast's castle! I'm sorry that food wasn't too impressive...hopefully they improve it instead of settling for mediocre (or less then) since people will eat there for the experience, regardless of the food. (Like how I've heard its a crapshoot over at Cindy's.) BUT WOW...that experience! How incredible that must've been to be the last ones in there! What fabulous memories!

I love all the Disneyland interjected in your tr too! :goodvibes One day I would love to go there, I love seeing posts about it!

Fell behind but all caught up. Sorry to hear about the food at BoG dinner. We loved CS lunch there. Mmmm cupcakes!

Love the Gaston photos - I tried not to peek at the BOG - so excited!
So cool that you get to meet Mickey at work. Can I come work for you guys too? ;)

The Beauty and the Beast pictures are great. What a fun time had by all.

Thanks for the Bonus pictures around Disney land, such a treat.:goodvibes

I'm going for something a little more exciting next time since I really need to give this a chance. I've been told the French onion soup is good.

We may have been the last ones in the restaurant since we're (ok, me) are so chatty. But the CMs were so great and didn't rush us out.

Thanks, I'm glad you are enjoying the bonus content.

Lunch at BoG has some things that I really think I would like better but I just haven't felt like standing in line.... yet. Maybe in December when it is not blazing hot that would be a more appealing option! And yes... mmmm cupcakes!

Love the Gaston photos - I tried not to peek at the BOG - so excited!
So cool that you get to meet Mickey at work. Can I come work for you guys too? ;)

Hi Alysa. Oops! Yes, skip on past that part - gotta preserve the awesomeness of when you walk through those doors.

Ha ha! You are far too creative for my boring job! :upsidedow This conference just happens to be a highlight for me since I'm a Disney fan!

The Beauty and the Beast pictures are great. What a fun time had by all.

Thanks for the Bonus pictures around Disney land, such a treat.:goodvibes

Hi there and thank you very much! :goodvibes I'm glad you are enjoying it.

Sunday August 3, 2013: Day 9, Part 1

A partly cloudy 38 degree day dawned on day 9 of our trip. Ok, not freezing but it was getting there!

Love the view from the living room:
DSC03392.jpg

When we were getting ready to leave the room to go to breakfast at Akershus we discovered the dreaded door hanging ME envelope! Thats always a bummer to see that&. Not that I need a reminder that our glorious trip was almost over!

DSC03394.jpg

We had an ADR at Akershus before park open so we bundled up and hopped on the monorail. At Epcot we went to the character breakfast entrance and had our names checked off the list. I would like to think of it as VIP list for the early morning entry but seeing as how they allowed others in behind us I suppose I can banish that illusion.

DSC03473.jpg

Yep, we're on the list!
DSC03474.jpg

It does look like our park for the morning doesnt it?

DSC03480.jpg

DSC03490.jpg

DSC03496.jpg

DSC03497.jpg

DSC03500.jpg

We made it over to Norway with a few stops along the way to pose for a photo or two.

DSC03512.jpg

After being summoned to the Royal Banquet Hall, Belle offered to be in our photo so very nice of her considering she was wearing her pretty new dress with her faux fur capelet. This Belle looked like she could also double as Jasmine.

DSC03528.jpg

This was our 3rd or 4th time eating breakfast at Akershus so we knew the drill to get our cold buffet items while awaiting delivery of the family style breakfast platter. My favorite part of dining at Akershus is that they serve Mickey waffles!!

DSC03531.jpg

We loaded our plates with fruit and danishes and then Miren, our server delivered the plate of eggs, bacon, sausage, and cheesey breakfast potatoes. When our Mickey waffles were delivered I just stared at the plate trying to figure out how I was going to tell my kid, sorry, they didnt bring any waffles for you. There were only TWO waffles. Anyone who knows me knows these are one of my favorite Disney food items E-V-E-R! Ok, so I didnt hog them all but I did implore Miren to load up another platter of waffles and deliver them post haste!

DSC03545.jpg

DSC03556.jpg

Obviously our server wasn't aware of my obsession with these waffles!
DSC03557.jpg

Since this is a character dining experience I suppose I should mention all the princesses that kept coming by our table and asking us to stop eating and pose with them for photos. Lets start with Cinderella who looked especially stunning in her blue gown and bouffant updo. I went for the soft princess hand in my photo with her but I just look like I have arthritis.

DSC03559.jpg

DSC03560.jpg

Next was Aurora who must have been cold because she had donned her pink cape. Then it was Snow Whites turn to greet guests. She had some whisps of long dark hair lose& oops! She managed to pass costume QA through.

DSC03563.jpg

DSC03565.jpg

DSC03566.jpg

DSC03567.jpg

And finally&.. Ariel with feet. She appreciated Ems dingle hopper! She even posed grabbing her glorious red locks when Em brought out the dingle hopper. She was actually adorable.

DSC03579.jpg

DSC03580.jpg

Whew! More waffles arrived.
DSC03572.jpg

We received our photo packet (included in the cost of the meal) and our bill and expected to be out of there in a few minutes. However, there was a computer issue and they didnt finalize the credit card transaction until 30 minutes later. Miren apologized for the delay but all was well. No worries, we didn't have to be anywhere.

Continued Next Post

Oh wow only two waffles. That wouldn't do for us either. Not sure a plate of three was much better. Can't wait to have me some Mickey waffles. Have to try not to add this to my ever growing list. Seeing the park empty makes it hard to pass up.

What a great night at BOG, even if the food was a little lackluster! I do enjoy the pork chop there, and people said the steak was good, baha. So great that they gave you a little personal tour!! That’s awesome!! The cupcakes are SO GOOD. I’ve tried the Lemon and the strawberry and I could just eat them forever, YUM

Great meet with Ariel, and a lovely evening at MK!

Flo’s looks super cute! I really need to get myself back to DLR, and I want to stay on property! And see all of Carsland! I WANNA EAT AT BLUE BAYOU!!!!! UGH …also DLR’s pirates is far superior…

Pretty!! Paige and I met that same friend of Belle earlier in the week in France! And I feel like a lot of the Belle’s are also friends with Jasmine. They’re the ones that are allowed to be a little more tanned I feel…

That plate of Mickey waffles certainly looks empty! That’s so weird that they’d only give you two! It was cold enough INSIDE for them to all have their winter wear?! Like WHAT? This is California! Bahaa Okay, either you two are shorter than I thought, or the princesses were all on the TALL side today, Ariel looks almost giant next to you guys!! Oh my gosh an extra 30 minutes?! Ack, if I was full and couldn’t eat any more that would just not be fun for me!

When your update started out by saying it was 38 degrees, I immediately began wondering how bundled up you and Em were for this outing. Turns out, wasn't just you two but some of the princesses also had to bundle up. Which begs the question: why didn't Ariel or Snow White have a fancy cover for their outfit? :rotfl:

Obviously our server wasn't aware of my obsession with these waffles!
DSC03557.jpg

A bit stingy? :lmao:

Great review of Be Our Guest! Sorry you didn't think the food was all that great. I thought the lunch we had there was really good, so I am anxious to see what dinner is like when we go in December. Those desserts all look so good!

Love that picture of the monorail right outside your window. :)

Breakfast at Akershus sounds fun! I like how some of the princesses had their capes on. That's awesome!

Ugh, getting that envelope on your door for the ME is never fun.
