Can anyone guess what this is?
Tonight we got take out from a local(to New England) restaurant and pub chain. We tried something new, their onion rings & sauce. I opened the sauce and could tell it was similar to the Bloomin Onions sauce. It was orange....but this had red streaks in it that looked like blood!
Ok, now Im really grossed out and couldnt eat it, and I was so looking forward to this treat. DH called the restaurant and asked if the sauce should have red in it. The manager said it should have red specks, but not streaks like liquid, which it was. He suggested maybe it was salsa(I didnt think it looked like that) or tabasco sauce. I still think it looked just like blood. So he said he would write our name on the board for a free order of onion rings when we come in again. Now I feel like this manager thinks we are nuts, so I sent DH back to the restuarant to show the sauce. I sort of wanted validation that, yes it did look like blood and Im not crazy. In the end, the manager wasnt there and the red had mixed in the sauce a little bit, so the girl who didnt really know the situation just gave us a new sauce that didnt have red streaks in it.
DH used to work in a couple restaurants and even he said he cut his hands many times without realizing it at first, so he could see how it could possibly be blood.
So, what do you think it could be? What kind of red food, looks like blood?
