On Wednesday, it started snowing for the second time this winter. We got about 50 centimetres of the stuff and it was really bad to travel in- not to mention it's about -10 degrees celcius outside and the boiler broke down in my school, but that's a different story.
Just to give you an idea of how bad it was, people's cars were getting stuck everywhere- tires spinning, rubber burning, the works- and a drive that normally would have taken 20 minutes would take more than 3 hours! A few of my classmates got into car accidents, and the power went out in several areas of the lower mainland. Oh, and we're expecting snow again tomorrow; goody! I get to walk 8 blocks to school in 1 million centimetres of snow!
Anyways, I'm getting off-topic here. My best friend's older sister was giving my best friend, one of my other friends, and I a ride home. We hadn't gotten two blocks away from the school when we get stuck in snowdrift- on a giant hill no less! So we're stuck with our tires spinning like mad and there's about six cars behind us all waiting for us to get up the hill. So we're spinning our tires and doing nothing that's going to actually help, when my friend suggests that we push the car up the hill. So all three of us jump out, inspect the snow around the car and then start pushing the back of the car while my best friend's sister excelerates; but it did no good. Eventually, a couple of older guys from our school, and a couple girls in our grade came over to help us and we got the car up the hill. So we thanked them and ran to catch up with her sister who was already at the top of the hill parked on the side of the road.
What amazes me here, is that nobody got out of their cars to help us, and this woman shovelling her driveway stopped to watch us and didn't even offer to help! I can sort of understand how most people wouldn't jump out to help us, since their cars might get stuck too, but the woman in her driveway could have done something other than watch us! I am grateful that somebody came to help us, but I'm a little upset that the adults had to be so rude and didn't even offer assistance. In the end, it was the kids from our school that helped out, and were good citizens. I was having doubts about the kids in my school, but now I have a somewhat different perspective.
I'm glad to know that there are still good kids out there, and I just thought that I would share this story with you, to let you know that our generation still has hope
. Got any stories about good kids that you want to share? Why not post 'em?
