Ok, I must be quite nuts not to have known this but I just found out that there is a ride called Spaceship Earth(?) inside the Epoct ball  . When we went last year, I had no idea about this so we did not go on. This year, I'd like to. Is it a scary ride for kids? We have 2 boys ages 5 & 6. Thanks! :worship:

Yup, it's been there since opening day in 1982. :)

It's not scary at all and doesn't go fast- it's a history of the world and shows the technological milestones of the past and what might happen in the future. It was also just majorly refurbished and officially reopened just last month.

First of all, you are not nuts for asking this question. Secondly, I didn't find it scary what so ever, I actually found it very relaxing. I havn't been on it though, since they re did it, so my opinion is probably outdated. Here is a link to All Ears, so you can read up on what Spaceship Earth is and see some photos: http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/ep/e_spe.htm

The ride is slow and about history and the future. Very nice for breaks from the heat! I wouldn't wait in a very long line for it, but do try to do it!! Never scared my kids!:thumbsup2

I always wonder how people just miss the entrance since it's so easy to see (unless you were there when it was closed which is quite possible!)

Our DD6 has loved Spaceship Earth since she was 13 m.o. In fact, when we visit Epcot, it's one of the first things she asks to do. :goodvibes

Our kids love this ride. We love it because it gets us out of the heat for a quick cat nap.

its a very not scary ride. slow moving and u barely even know ur up high. it travels all teh way to teh top of the ball and u have no idea really. and i can see how someone could miss it. it doesnt look like a typical ride entrance.

My just turned 4 year olds LOVED it. They also loved TTA-go figure!! Not knocking TTA, I love it too-just didn't think it would appeal to them!

While it is not scary it is dark. I have not been since the rehab so maybe it is better lit now, but if your little ones are afraid of the dark, be warned, it is also a bit long, which is great if you want to relax and enjoy the cool temp inside but no fun if your kids are afraid of the dark

This is off the record...

By the end of Spaceship Earth, I'm wiping away tears. More than a ride, an excellent presentation highlighting the accomplishments of the human race on this planet... Spaceship Earth.

Actually, my family did this in '83 or '84. I distinctly remember being well into Future World with my parents when I asked if EPCOT Center had rides. They said they didn't think so. Fortunately we did walk through one of the Communicore (now Innoventions) breezeways, where I saw World of Motion (now Test Track.)

We had no idea that Spaceship Earth was a ride until we looked carefully at the park maps after that. We saw the exterior queue area of course, but figured it was a planetarium or something.

As far as the scariness part . . . it is pretty dark in there, but no worse than something like Peter Pan. It's slow moving. While they've fixed the narration so it's not as "educational" as it used to be, it still may bore some children. They'll probably like the new ending, though. The original one freaked me out a little when I was your kids' age, but the newest ending is pretty kid-friendly.

I am the same. I get emotional on Spaceship Earth. I feel like I am part of something and the swelling music gets me every time.

I don't think that I could ever understand that statement. :confused3 The entire ride is a marvel of engineering and art. It is telling a story of communication and does so in a most interesting way. BTW, when you get to the top, it takes your breath away.

The downward part of the ride is different now with a bit of interactive stuff that is comical and clever and you are part of it. I will admit that it is a comfortable, cool place to be, but, I could never sleep on it, I would fear that I would miss too much.

Need I tell you that it is one of my top 3 rides at WDW. There's PotC, HM and SE. I guess I'm old school.

AND...
Spaceship Earth has the distinction of being the ONLY major attraction at WDW with its entrance positioned where guests must pass it on their way from the front gate into the park.

Many guests, as they approach, see other guests standing in the queue(s) and think that they MUST ride it NOW (as they come to it.)

At all other parks, there is no "first" attraction that guests MUST pass to go into the park, proper.
They may arbitrarily turn and go in a multitude of directions as they enter.

I'm not counting the "Oasis" at DAK as a "major attraction" which does not even have a formal "queue" for guests.

I enjoy Spaceship Earth and like most of the improvements...the descent is really funny. I still prefer Jeremy Irons to Judy Dench as narrator but I guess you can't have everything. :rolleyes1

I really hate to admit this but we missed it too. :confused3 It's not like I didn't read the UG, TGM and the DIS extensively before our trip and also sat in front of it for 20 minutes one evening. :rolleyes1 Thankfully it gave me a good reason in order to convice DH that we needed to go back and for another 9 day trip so we don't "miss" anything again. :lmao:
