Yesterday was my DH's birthday (Happy Birthday Honey:cake: :wave2: ), so we went to The Smithy, a nice steakhouse in Monroe CT. We have eaten there many times, it's one of our favorite places, and they have been around for years. Nice staff, good service, excellent food.

Well, about 3/4 of the way through the meal, all of a sudden, this guy at a table about 10 feet away from us yells out "I need a beer over here". Now mind oyu, we are not talking about your local bar, we are talking about a steakhouse. So the waitress, who had just brought the table a bunch of stuff, turns and says "I know sir, I couldn't fit it on the tray, so I am going to get it now", and walks away.

A few minutes later, he calls her over again and starts complaining about the food. So the waitress apologizes and asks if he would liek something else. He just continues to rant and rave about the overcooked crab cakes, and why would they serve overcooked crab cakes and if they don't know how to cook crab cakes, then they shouldn't offer them etc.

She finally just walked away form the guy, because there was nothing she could do to shut him up, brought him the bill for they had eaten, and walked away agian.

I told her she was a better person than I, because I'd have carved his heart out with a steak knife.

Happy belated birthday to your husband. Sorry some jerk was there maybe he should have gone down the street to duchess. I just wanted to say I love the smithy and we are thinking of going for my DH birthday on friday. D id they do anything for the birthday? I know senior ponchos will sing and put a sumbraro(?) on your head.

Deanna :cat:

It's aggrivating to have to sit and listen to someone being outrageous in resturants. I always hate that. The only thing worse is when you are in a large party and the obnoxious person is in your party.

People who can't wait 5 more minutes for a beer scare me...

Sorry you had to witness it.

And happy belated b-day to your DH. :)

People never stop amazing me by how rude they can be.

There is just no excuse for a person getting that irate over a crabcake or a beer. People need to think a little.

Some people do stuff like that in the hopes that management will not make them pay for 'poor' service/food. Even it nothing was wrong-- the sqeaky wheel theory.

This guy obviously didn't have enough 'class' to be in a place like that.

He sounds like one of those people that are trying to be obnoxious enough to get his meal for free or something.

I hope your dh was able to enjoy his bday dinner anyway though.:)

I'm sure she wanted to use that steak knife also!! :teeth:

Some people just have no manners at all. Some people think they are better than others. Good for her for not laying into him, but he surely deserved it!

I was in a TGI Fridays last night. I saw the manager go over to a couple sitting not too far from me. She mentioned something about "the waitress said you have bad brocolli?" and the next thing I knew the lady says "smell!" and sticks the brocolli in the manager's face--right under her nose! How the manager didn't throw it back at her, I don't know! The lady wasn't loud, but still, it was rude! I think they gave her free dessert. I left before they did.

My father-in-law is rude and obnoxious to waitresses. I refuse to go out to eat with him any more.

I don't know how my mother-in-law can stand it, cause they are both 65 and retired and they eat out at least once a day, whether it is a McDonalds or a nice resturant.

I also have a sister who has been a waitress for over 16 years. When she went back to work after her vacation, she said she will not put up with rude and obnoxious people any more. (I told her I'd give her a week). She said people demand their food when the resturant is packed and she just took their order. She works at a local resturant from 6:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m., so all the locals love her and know her. (she had a couple walk out on her this week, cause they sat their for 5 minutes and she didn't come fast enough to take their order). She told them "sorry you feel that way, but she was doing the best she could". She said they looked stunned cause she didn't beg them to come back.

I hate that resturants get away with paying waiters and waitress's such lousy pay and expect their tips to pay the wages for work done. This whole industry should be revamped.

Obvoiusly I am a better person than you, Dh and I like to use the phrase- "Take him out back and beat him with a shovel" That sounds so much more humane.

My Dh came up with it when he was half asleep. We were watching "Dream Home" and this guy is looking at his land for where to build a house. A neighbor came over worried about his view of the water being obstructed and they went back and forth about " How about you move the house 10 feet" and "How about you don't build a second level" after about ten how about's my DH says "How about I take you out back and beat you with a shovel" I know you are thinking, such a volitle respnse from a bystander watching TV! I thought it was funny! We both laughed for twenty minutes so we never found out what he did. My DH obviously voted for the owner doing what he wanted!
