Well in Walt's original plans he would've had his own airport right on property.
Other than that there have been plans within the las decade to have some sort of train transportation from the airport to other florida locations. WDW has been talked about as one of those locations but it likely won't happen.
Disney really likes to be in control of what they do.
That airstrip isn't used and was never intended to really be used commercially.Um there is currently an airport, well airstrip, on property. Its just not used because its probably just not needed.
As for the monorail there was some sort of high speed rail for Florida that was to stop at WDW.

Also as part of the agreement for the RCID they can also have a nuclear power plant.
I doubt we will ever see a extention of the monorail system. Last time I saw real figures was 10 years ago and at that time cost was 120,000 per track section to extented. I'm sure that figure has gone up since.
I don't think capacity is as big of an issue as cost is. The monorails are quite expensive to construct.Added with the problem that the "current" Monorails System just can't handle the crowds at opening and closing... that adds to the reasons it won't happen.
More likely to see automated buses driving around in 20 years..... the good ones will tell corny jokes.
At least on property - not sure about to the airport.
Probably worth mentioning that it likely wasn't even a true monorail, it was likely some type of light rail. Cost being the issue in the consideration. Dollar per mile, monorails like what is currently at Disney are quite expensive compared to other train styles.
I think it would've been done along side of the buses just like current MK transportation. Guests at MK resorts have the monorail or a boat to take. And then bus or monorail to Epcot.I'm not sure that if this ever had been built that they'd be able to keep up with capacity.
Busses, while less fun, are a lot more flexible.
That would have been so cool and 100% convenient.
Does anyone know why it never happened?
