Update
Went to Epcot yesterday with the bag and it was fully checked. We walked in via international gateway and it took 1 minutes. Today went with cargo shorts with slim wallet, sunblock and a phone and went through the mk at rope drop and all of usthrough the metal detector and dhs tonight with just me through the detector. Love the bag less ness. Thanks all

I carry a backpack because I carry the things that my family and I will need or want to have during the day. However my backpack only has two zippered compartments and a pouch for my camelback. Everything that I carry in the bag is in a zip loc bag for organization and for waterproofing. I've never had them take more than 10 seconds to look in both compartments and send me on my way.

Hi a question for those who have had to go thru the metal detector.... When you have to empty your pockets... Phone and say small wallet... Do you hold these things? Or is there some place they make you put your items? I'm just wondering the logistics . It would be quiet difficult to keep track of your belongings ,never mind not particularly safe??

They have little trays to put those things in while you walk through.

Have you been there in the last week? For easiest and fastest entry into the parks is it better to bring a small purse (really small see link below) OR to wear cargo shorts and carry no bag? I get that it is sort of a crap shoot but wondering if anyone who is there or was there last week has a POV.

Security is tighter but they have more people as of last weekend for times of day when there is a larger rush to check.. It's also rather complete so anything they want to look in that was in your shorts, you will be doing both lines instead of just 1 line.

Bag has the potential to be longer when there is a crowd coming in (ADR, Rope Drop, just before lunch/dinner). Other than that, my daughter with a bag usually beats me getting in and I have no bag. The actual ticket scanning line take much longer than the security check.

This can also have a negative effect. My daughter got her bag ready once and there is security staff looking for odd you might be trying to hide something behavior and then they really check you trying to figure out why you were messing with your bag just before security check.

she now carries a much smaller bag, but then again it's warmer so the extra sweatshirt, etc isn't with us right now.

something to keep in mind is they really look in the bags now so bulky items put in the top as you will have to remove them for the check now.

I have a bag that's a little smaller and it's really handy to have a bag for me. What I do is roll up the bag and stick it along with the few things in it into my pockets and my dh's pockets. This way we can go through quicker and I don't have to wear cargo pants. Works for me!

I wear this when I run now, and it's big enough to hold my 6Plus, along with headphones, extra battery and charger. Under your T-shirt it's not even seen. I was always cargo shorts guy, and this is such a better option that having tons of gear hitting the sides of each leg as you walk.

If you take a bag like dreiwhit and use the zip lock bags and open all your zippers to the main bag it will go really fast. That is exactly what we did in December 2015 WDW, and May at Disneyland. They do appreciate it as well. I travel with the Grand children and I will take all the bags with me in front of my husband who has the stroller and I will open all the bags and as they check them I will close them and hand them back to my husband. Its a process but give your self a few extra minutes and everything will be fine. Have a great trip.

As long as you aware that sometimes they will pull people with stuffed cargo pockets and make them go thru bag check.

I was at EPCOT and AK on 6/12 (day after/of the shooting), MK (in 2x) on 6/14, EPCOT and MK on 6/15, and HS, EPCOT, HS on 6/17. There was never, at any of those parks/times 100% through the metal detectors. Not even on 6/12. My husband and my daughter's friend had to go through that day. I only had to go through once. My son had to go through every time except that first day at EPCOT when he was pushing my wheelchair. I don't think my daughter ever had to go through. 100% is not even close.

At MK the day after the shooting, everyone was checked. Even my 14 yr old with me.

Glad ya had an easy time at other parks though!

The rest of the week (and later that day), I saw it as random as well.

But that morning, at Magic Kingdom, it was being done for everyone.

They have the capability to do it expediently. It's just up to the patrons to cooperate.

After a week in the parks I have to say cargo pants / shorts are the way to go. It saves a few minutes. Metal detectors for adults 100% of the time for me and all other adults when I entered save once at Epcot international. We hit at least 2 parks a day. The kids never went through metal detectors. Except once. They were very fast on security except for the rope drop at MK on EMH morning. That was a few minutes wait (like 3 mins). Beats tsa!

Yes, stroller with no bag can go through bagless lines. We did. We learned on the first day of our first trip to NEVER bring a bag. The elderley gentleman at the bag check took at least 10 minutes - unzipping every pocket and checking inside with a flashlight! After that we started carrying lanyards with cards & cash. My husband always wears cargo shorts and has never once been checked.

What does the CM's age have to do with anything? Quiet a biased, offensive remark

One way home from being there for two weeks. Not 100% through metal detectors; they are random picking people. Choosing both those with and without bags. Baglines go quickly if you have everything unzipped so they don't have to do it. We've been so many times. We've learned to pack things in ziplock bags in the backpacks. Unzip backpack and pull out the ziplock bags. So they don't have to spend time unzipping the bag and pulling stuff out. It is just a few minutes of my time, and I would rather them do this than do nothing and something happen. Years ago when we were still walking from bus and no where bag check, my brother-in-law was walking and putting stuff in his cargo pockets. When he got to the bag less line, security was waiting for him. They had been called from a control and monitor room somewhere and given his description and told to check all his pockets. Disney Security is watching out to keep their guests safe. We have never been and not felt safe. There was more of a presence of security these past two weeks after the shooting. Had K-9 units out and about.

This week the guards announced to arriving guests that EVERYONE needed to unzip and open all pockets before approaching bag check.

It could be. I've never had a wallet checked but i've seen people with basically a zippered wallet have to go back to bag check to look inside it. I guess i comes down to could a weapon be inside it and do they want or need to look in it that determines if you get sent back to the bag line.
