There is only one "u" in "nuclear"

You know what's funny? I KNOW the correct pronunciation of "nuclear" and I still say it wrong, every time! Of course, I don't say it that often so I don't get to practice a lot. I mean, how often does the word "nuclear" appear in every day conversation?

Well considering the fact that I'm a Rocket Scientist, everyday.

This is the one the drives me insane! And you hear it all the time!!!

Can I throw "irregardless" out there, too??

It isnt a word people!!

I know a very highly educated man who uses "irregardless" a lot and it drives me up the wall.

I also do not like "flustrated". C'mon folks... you can be flustered or you can be frustrated, but let's not get flustrated.

I have never heard flustrated before!! That would drive me crazy, too.

Human

When someone doesnt pronounce the 'H'.. and says 'you-man'

:rotfl2:

another
Coupon
I say Q-pon
cant stand when someone says 'coo-pon':headache:

My dad says Codorado instead of Colorado. He also says in-da ground pool instead of inground pool. My co-worker piped up and says she hates when her mom says Walmarts instead of Walmart.

We were talking to my other co-worker about the stampede in India and she said something along the lines of "Isn't it terrible about those people who were trampeded?" We were laughing our butts off!

I hate when people say they will loose their minds........

it is lose

For pronunciation lots of words are regional

Same here!

I have a cousin who pronounces similar as sim-u-lar.

Ha! Down here some say 'similar' as follows:

sim - ah- you - lure

Of course, some of say:

sim-you-ah-lure

I say:

sim-lure

I don't care how people pronounce a word. I think maybe I have bit more understanding then some because I grew up on the west coast and moved to CT right before my senior year. My new classmates enjoyed writing words down and then listening to me when I said them. This normally end up with them laughing at the funny way I said stuff. Guess the accent got in the way. :confused3

I have a friend though that is always saying "conversate" and "conversating". These are not even words!!!! After I told her this, she actually went and looked in a dictionary. Of course, she still says them. :headache:

I hate to say this but read what the dictiionary says(it is a word)....

irregardless
One entry found.

Main Entry: ir·re·gard·less
Pronunciation: \ˌir-i-ˈgärd-ləs\
Function: adverb
Etymology: probably blend of irrespective and regardless
Date: circa 1912
nonstandard : regardless
usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

I haven't read all of the comments but I can't stand the days of the week as Sundy, Mondy, tuesdy, ... It's SunDAY, MonDAY...

Also, Libary - it's LIBRARY

spaded, I had my dog spaded last week -No moron you had your dog SPAYED.

I used to work for a vet and you wouldn't believe how people would pronounce Rottweiler - Rockwilder was the most common but there were others. One man had 2 and he said "I need to bring my rocks in." I told him that we didn't treat rocks.

There are a lot that drive me batty, but "nucular" is real high on the list. You'd think the President could learn to pronounce that. :faint:

"Libary, jewlery, UMbrella, Illinoize" all drive me a little up the wall.

But I'm very fond of saying, "Idunno" for "I don't know", blurring it all together, which has always driven my mother (and probably others, as well) kind of nuts. I also say "kinda" instead of "kind of."

The thing that drives me the most batty, though, is the superfluous "at."

"Where is it at?" and "Where are you at?" Those sentences don't need ATs!!! You might as well say, "Where is it down?" or "Where are you upon?"

"Where is it?" is a complete sentence at. "Where is it at?" is moronic at.

My kids all do this at. They sound like idiots at. :headache:

I don't know if it is a regional thing, but TONS of people around here do it at. I see it on these boards a great deal, as well. At.

Nucular, as others have said.
Fustrated instead of frustrated.
Mines. Ugh, don't people realize how stupid they sound when the words "That's mines" come out of their mouth?
Here in Hawaii they have a regional way of pronouncing hard Ts in words that I don't. It's not incorrect per se, but it's odd to hear bellybuTTon and imporTant where I say it more like bellybut-en, import-ent, etc.

I work in the health field, and had no idea there were so many ways of saying colonoscopy. People, it's not colonostomy, colonoscofy, or colon-scopy.

Anything where people add an "sh" where it doesn't belong. Examples: street when it's pronounced "shtreet", school when it's pronounced "shkool".

How about orange? I hear many people say "arnge" instead of "or-ange".

Or measure. It's "meh-zure", not "may-zure".

And while not a mispronunciation, what's with you people who wait "online" instead of waiting "in line" like the rest of us? ;)
