....three adult ponchos!!! I went to Wal Mart and got my cross over shoulder pouch type pack and I looked at the prices and availablility of ponches and they are do dang heavy! I wish I was a man and did not have to carry anything. I just need my camera, ATM card, drivers license, mula and chapstick. I have a mini umbrella and someone said that it was not a good idea what what wind, but that is all I am willing to carry.
Dang rain............:earsgirl: ::MinnieMo

I know everyone has said this over and over before... but the things I regret NOT bringing were the ponchos!! Last summer, it rained on us at some point EVERY DAY, and the one day I told DH "no, I don't think we need them today".... It POURED!!! We were soaked and from then on vowed to always always always put them in the backpack - no matter what!

from Hermosa11: I truly believe her! but that would mean I would HAVE to carry a large backpack everywhere??? I just wanted somekind of fanny pack..........
augh ...decisions , decisions.........

The ponchos they sell at WDW are very flimsy plastic. We wear em, shake off the rain and jam them into a large ziplock, then squeeze the air out. They won't take up hardly any space in your bag. Not sure about the ones Walmart sells. Dollar stores also sell a clear plastic flimsy one as well. They are in little bags hardly bigger than a wallet...hope this helps!

BTW, I've also been known to buy 10 or 20 of the dollar store ones and keep a few in my bag. We just toss them and don't have to carry the wet things around after the rain stops...

We bought our ponchos at MGM our first trip and still have them. I rool them up and wrap a rubber band around them. They are light and don't take up too much space.

You know, it seems like such a silly concern......such a goofy complaint, but I really tend to think things thru, and if I am going to walk around alllll day and evening you want to make the walk/trip as comfortable as possible. The idea about dollar store, I will definitely check that out! And if I found them I certainly would buy a doz. and toss after the last rain.
Thanks to the two of you that took time to ease the concerns of such "silly" worries. :wave2: :wave2: ::MinnieMo

I just bought three at Walmart for 87 cents each for our trip next week. I took them out of the packing- so no need to deal with that down there- put them in a ziplock and they take up hardly any space. Just in case you know!!

The ponchos I saw (umbrella section) were about $6.00 each.
what the heck?? $.87? I did NOT see that great deal.,
oh well. will keep researching..........
thanks!!!:sunny:

They WHY carry more than ONE poncho? If your guys are too macho to carry anything then they're probably macho enough to get wet and not care. If not, they they can carry their own poncos!

Seriously, the cheapo ones from wally world or the dollar store are tiny and won't take up much space - but I wasn't kidding about the guys carrying their own stuff. That 'Y' chromosome doesn't get them out of everything! ;)

Wet or dry, hope your trip to WDW is fantastic!

I read a post somewhere this particular family brings - "wet weather gear" - poncho, mini umbrellas, water shoes, dry clothes (if necessary) etc... in a seperate backpack - then rent a locker for that bag... if rain approaches, they go to the locker, don their raingear and get back to the rides... a little extra trouble, but might be worth it to stay dry and not have the extra weight to lug around all day.

HTH (a little!)

The ponchos in the camping section of Wal-Mart are very cheap and about the size of a credit card. Also you can find the same type of poncho at Target in their camping section. When we went two weeks ago, I packed our heavy ponchos and also got some of the cheap ones. We placed the cheap ones in the bottom of the stroller in case of rain. The plan was to take the heavy duty ponchos to the park only if there was an actual chance of rain which luckily for us we never experience rain during the day.

I actually thought about putting stuff in a locker, then thought that the rain would "jUST appear".........so I'd waste my time putting the gear far away in the locker, but I suspect you would "feel" rain approaching.............I hear you though. I live only 1 mile from my favorite store, WalMart, but need to find time to go there during the workweek. I like to jog right after work and then shower, and I am too messed up to "go out" and meet the public. ha ha. I love all tips and appreciate your time! Thanks. Now I have to create a new thread for a question about using the monorail and visiting on-site hotels on an "off" day (no park visits).

Ahh, the Great Poncho Depate! :) We always bring ours...if we don't one day, it ALWAYS pours on us! :) We have ones from MK that are almost 4 years old and they are great. We both wear a fanny pack, and DH folds them up and one of us carries the pack with the ponchos, and the other the pack with the camara, chapstick, etc. Also, if you go to the Super Wal-Mart in Orlando, they have ones that look similar to the ones sold at WDW for only $2-3. They are not much thinner than the WDW ones. Definetly worth the few bucks.

We always use the ones from the Dollar Tree. They come two in a pack for $1.00. I take several packs in our luggage so we will have extras if we need them. Then before we leave our hotel for the day, I put one in a ziploc for myself and one in a ziploc for my DH. He wears a fanny pack and carries his own snacks in it along with the poncho which is very small and very light. I use a small quilted backpack.

My sister and I were at WDW in February and it rained three out of five days. Besides our ponchos, we had also taken with us small Totes folding umbrellas and were so glad we had those with us. We carried them in our backpacks also. There were times we had to use both our umbrella and our poncho. Because the ponchos were so inexpensive, at the end of the day we just pitched them in the trash.

I like the heavy ponchos, we have used them for many trips, they hold up better and keep you drier and warmer than the cheap ones that are about as thin as saran wrap. It can get very windy when it rains and I have seen the cheap ones blow up into peoples faces, also sometimes the temp drops with the rain and they do help keep you warmer. We just have each person fold theirs over the strap on their hip pack, they will stay put just fine. As far as lockers are concerned, be aware that Florida rains can appear without warning and it is a loooooooooong way back to the front of the park where the lockers are, especially if you are in Epcot. We always figure that carrying a poncho is a way to guarantee good weather, if you leave it behind just once, that is the day it will rain for sure. A cap with a bill such as a ball cap is good to have along too, wear it under the hood of the poncho to hold it in place, otherwise the water will just drip into your face. We use them at night to sit on when watching Fantasmic, those metal benches are cold! If it is a chilly day we use them to ride Splash Moutain and other rides we might get wet on, makes them more do-able.

I just went to my reg. walmart (no super walmarts here in No. Calif) and I found one for $3.50 (something like that). I take it home and show my DS17 and he said "NO WAY AM I GOING TO WEAR A PONCHO....NO ONE WEARS PONCHOS AT DISNEYWORLD"
okay, here are the questions......
1) If the rain is only for 15 min (something like that), can't you just pop inside somewhere and wait it out?
2) now really, what is the percentage of visitors that really pop on the ponchos.............
Great idea for Spash Mountain though!
Now remember, I have my doubts on a high percentage of visitors wearing these ponchos, because I am from sunny california and only have visited Disneyland, where you just walk in sleeveless tops and rake in the warm sun.
thanks!!!
deb in sacramento, calif.:wave2: :earsgirl: :grouphug: :umbrella:

think sea of yellow when it rains. you are better off buying plain ones so you can keeo track of your group, lol

Seriously, a very large percentage of people where them, and you might be able to take shelter, depending on where you are. Unfortunately 10,000 others will have the same idea!

Bring one for your son, he might just wear it when he sees a real FL rain :)

ha ha ha, I hear you.........I will smash one in my pocket for my DS, not sure If I can cram one in for my husband. typical guy that walks with wallet in pocket.

Kate-n-sam is exactly right. When we were there in February, almost everyone had a poncho on in the rain. There were many, many WDW ponchos but there were also a lot of clear ponchos. The clear ponchos are great for being able to identify those in your party. Wearing a poncho sure beats having to walk around in wet clothing after a rain. We've even had people ask us where we got our "see through" ponchos! When it rains, people do tend to stop at restaurants, etc. Although we didn't have to get in out of the rain since we had ponchos and umbrellas, we were hungry so we stopped at Cosmic Ray's. There were so many people in there that we had to wait on a table. That's the first time I've ever seen Cosmic Ray's that crowded!

Everyone pays so much for their vacations they do not want to miss a minute of it, so they put on ponchos and drive on.....:)

We use ones from Dollar Tree and have for years. I put them in ziplock baggies and they fit fine in a fanny pack. I sometimes put two in, then if it rains and stops I just toss it and if another storm comes along I am prepared..

This is our 15th trip this weekend to WDW and we have learned there is a lot of stuff, you really do not need to bring, however ponchos are not one of them.

Everyone can carry their own stuff, only place my DH will wear a fanny pack is in Orlando and he has a huge one from Universal that holds the camera and all his needed items. I carry my own stuff, which he says is too much, but I am female...:)

Hope all this poncho advice from everyone helps you out...:)
