There is Magic at WDW!! (Long)

I thought I'd share something will all of you about the "Magic" at Walt Disney World.

I was very concerned about this trip to WDW because DH was coming and to put it mildly, wasn't a lover of WDW. I am the fanatic of the family!

DH and I had been to WDW many, many times prior to purchasing at the Boardwalk. We even got engaged at the Poly many years ago. However, he had never been "home" even after purchasing. We purchased at the Boardwalk sight un-seen. See, DH had just about had it with Florida and "the mouse" as he put it. He really bought into the DVC for me and our son.

Well last week we ALL were in WDW. But about 3 weeks prior to our leaving I had to have a rather stern talk with DH because all he was doing up till then was complain about how he really didn't want to go and how this would definately be his last trip to Florida. Fine I told him; why don't you just stay home then!!!! I told him if he was going to make everyone including himself miserable then I didn't want him to come. No one should be forced to go somewhere they didn't want to go. But he said he'd come, but again reinforced the fact that it would be his "last" time.

Well as the days approached and I started to pack, I told my DS (almost 15) that I was really worried that Dad wasn't going to enjoy himself and maybe it was a mistake trying to make a "family vacation" in Florida.

Now don't get me wrong. DH would willingly go anywhere!! We love to travel. He had just had enough of WDW.

Here comes the Magic.... As we drove up to the front of the Boardwalk Villas, I could see his eyes light up. And once we walked into the lobby he was checking everything out left and right. Then we get to our room 3123.....He was speechless. For those of you who don't know 3123 is a corner room and it has a very large living room . If he said once that he loved the place he said it over 50 times that week. He had a ball. We hit all the parks, ate at some of our favorite restaurants old and made some new favorites. Stolled the Boardwalk at night, hit Downtown Disney. That wasn't buildt the last time he was in WDW. Only the Marketplace existed. Lounged at the pool in the afternoons, sipped "Rollercoaster Meltdowns" and just totally enjoyed ourselves! We even went over to Universal/IOA !

My husband had a great time!!! And is planning our "next trip to WDW". We're even talking about possibly moving to Florida!! I can't believe it.

So yes; there is still Magic in WDW.
And we are once again, a WDW Family!!

That sounds like my 80yo father. He complained and complained about going last February. He said it was all for kids, blah, blah. I told him he didn't have to go, no big deal. He hadn't been to WDW since he took me and my brother and it was only MK. We stayed the first two nights at the WL and he was still grumbling but not as much. LOOKING for stuff to complain about even. For example, he came out of the bathroom with a bar of Mickey soap, "Kinda stingy with the soap, aren't they?" He's stayed in hotels before, he knows they give you more soap, he was just looking to complain. I was ready to go home.

We moved over to BCV and he loved it. Took him to Epcot and he was in heaven. He LOVED Off Kilter; called them "Those boys." He enjoyed being able to ride (I'd gotten him an ECV for the trip.) over to the World Showcase and enjoyed the boat to MGM. He liked MGM and AK too and before we left he was saying he didn't want to go to any zoo. Well, I think the it's NATAZU commercials got to him and I knew he would like it so he gave in and we went. He loved that too.

We saw One Man's Dream at MGM and when we got back home I overheard him on the telephone with my aunt telling her it wasn't all about Mickey Mouse and kids. Walt built WDW for families and that they only celebrate Mickey Mouse because that's how it all started.

Now, he's after my aunt and uncle who are in their 70's to go with us and he's even got special box in his bedroom that he's saving money in for his next trip. This is all from a man who was saying before we went, "This will be my last trip before I die."

And I almost forgot!! We just had to have the pictures from Buzz, Rockin' Rollercoaster and Chef Mickey's to bring home!! I think they went into work with DH today!!

We're sitting here drinking coffee from WDW. You know the packages they sell in the resort stores that are pre measured and in filters already; like a "big tea bag" just with coffee. Mickey's on the packages. Anyway, he looks at me and asks "where the Carott Cake?" We use to walk to the bakery for dessert at night and he loved the Carott Cake.

Anyway back to work for me tomorrow but I have the memory of one of the best vacations ever and the thought of many, many more to come!!

What a wonderful story., I agree that WDW and perhapss most importantly, DVC can do that for the doubters.

That was my DH as few years ago. I just asked him a few weeks ago - do you want to use our points to go anywhere else, like Hawaii? Nah, he said - I like going to Disney, I like the golf course, the hotels are great and you love it there.

Next March - DD and I are hoping the magic will infect her DH. He is reeling from a not-so-magical trip in Dec 2002 when he swore he would never return. They stayed offsite and had mega-problems with her sister. Plus my well-meaning DD thinks family trips mean you do everything with each other all the time and made him drag a wheeled mini-suitcase around the parks all day. I have convinced her that you can still have a family trip and do some things separate - and DH and I have a rule - if you want to take it to the park - you carry it! So now we get to introduce DSIL to the BW (just one night) and the BCV (for 7 nights.) I'm looking for the same kind of turn in him!

Your DH sounds alot like mine. The last few years he's been saying "this is the last time, we've given enough money to the rat." Every year I have to practically bribe him to go back. One year it was the Nascar Expierence, this year it was Daytona Bike Week. Now all of a sudden he's warmed to the idea of buying into DVC!!! Not quite sure how it happened and I'm not questioning it either. I'm getting his signature on paper quickly before he changes his mind!!!

You never know when the MAGIC of WDW will hit you!!!

I have found many people that have been down on WDW have a totally different opinion after staying at one of the Villas. My sister bought her first Seasonal Pass after years of trying to get her to come with my neice and nephew. When we had to leave she said when can we come again?

Shelby - DVC is one of the best things we ever did. Even before DH "fell in love with WDW again" It's so nice not having to worry about the cost of the accomodations in addition to airfare, tickets, food, etc.

Oh and another thing I forgot. Prior to the trip I was asked "how many meals do we eat in the room"? And I told him "zero". Well he said, it would be nice to cook occasionally so that we don't over spend on food; you know how expensive it is there. HA!!!! We picked up franks, burgers and the sort. If I told you how much was donated to MouseKeeping and the trash you'd cry!! We just had to eat here and there oh and we just gotta go there.....It really was a dream vacation!

Oh and Susan....yes...it almost was a second honeymoon. Our son went off on his own some evenings and this gave DH and I time alone to just take in everything. This trip brought out the best in everyone!!

Thanks for the great stories and trip reports. Ms. WDW, I love your "oh, I forgot" parts!! It is great to make all those memories and just think you have many more years to enjoy. Maybe DH would like to try another resort next time. That is one of the perks my DH enjoys is trying out the different resorts.

You know, it's funny. But for the most part none of us know eachother. But I just couldn't wait to get home and "tell everyone" what a great time we had and how DH did a complete 360!! I guess in a way we all are part of one big family; a DVC family that is!!

Well that's it for tonight; back to work tomorrow for me.
