I hate when I am tempted. I had a nice lunch out today and I could easily say no. I hate being tempted.

I think I mostly struggle with making sure that I am living my lifestyle change. There are days when we will have situations come up. If we do this for life, we won't always say no. We just need to learn to have smaller portions, and not have it all the time or all our splurges in one day.

So I wonder if I should skip it, or show some restraint and prove to myself that I can do this and still "eat my cake too"!

Melanie, I don't know what to say. I know that I could not stop right now if I started. Even if I only ate a little ice cream, I'd probably binge on junk when I got home. I'd have to stay away.

However, there are days when I'm feeling strong and when I could have half a cup of ice cream (about 20 carbs?) and stop.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Ok, I was a good girl and didn't have anything. I went to the cafeteria and looked, but left empty handed. It wasn't like some of the ice cream socials we have had before with the tubs of ice cream and toppings. They had a Klondike like bar that was 290 calories and 25 grams of fat..........I dont' think so. The other choice was a little tub of ice cream that was sugar free (splenda) and fat free. I don't eat things with artificial sweetners if I can help it so I passed.

I forgot my palm pilot today, if anyone has a slider I would love to know how many points for 290 calories and 25 grams.

YIKES..........

Melanie

8 points as far as I can tell since the fat grams only go up to 20.

Thank goodness you passed that up. I admire your resolve!

Good for you, Melanie!! :bounce:

Good for you Melanie :) My co-workers often bring lots of goodies to work like cookies and Krispy Kremes. They all know I'm on a diet, so they keep that stuff on the other side of the office :p

When I eat food that has more than 20 grams of fat. I usually divide everything in half -- fat, calories and fibre so that I can use my slider and the find the points ... Then I just double those points.

Melanie, we had the exact same thing here on Monday. It was in the building lobby and I was trying to stay away from there but they were making waffle cones and the smell permeated the whole building. They were also serving warm brownies with the ice cream. Oh the pain of it all! But I didn’t do it. I’m like you Doe, I’m better off not having any than trying to have a little. I’ve been off sugar for three years (except a small cheat once a month or so), but it is still hard for me to resist sweets. And when I have to miss something like that ice cream social I resent it! It used to be that if I passed up something that I really wanted I would just eat something even worse later that day, but at least I’ve finally gotten over that. It’s Thursday now and I’m still mad about not being able to have that ice cream on Monday, but I would have been a lot more upset if I had given in to it.

I think I'm finding that I will make different CHOICES now. In the past, I would have been right in there, not really considering whether I really wanted it or not. Now I look at things carefully, just like you did, Melanie. And if I still want it, then I'll have it, and record the points. But if I can't decide, that's my cue to move along and come back empty-handed.

Life changes, my friends ... that's what it's all about in the long-run. Good for you, Melanie for weighing your options, and making the best decision for you at the time! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Thanks everyone!! My family went to Dairy Queen last night too, I passed there and had some all natural Breyers Rocky Road. I had an entire cup for 8 points. It only cost me 4 flex points since I had 4 target points left. It was so good too. Good things come to those who wait! And there was only 7 grams of fat in this ice cream (Well 14 since I had two servings!!)
