Grace update..thanks for thinking of her.

All her bodily functions are currently working. At the last minute, we said, "Do an X-ray while you've got her." They did....and she's got "stuff" in her belly. Vet doesn't know what. He wants us to watch her for 48 hours and do one final evaluation on Thursday morning...also known as 24 hours before departure for BC. The fear is that whatever is in her belly needs to be surgically removed. :worried: He stressed that he's pulled buttons and bottle caps out of cats and dogs, where the owners have said, "I haven't seen that in 3 years!," meaning that whatever is in her, may have been there for a while, and can stay there at least for the next two weeks or so. Here's hoping there isn't any sickness, or turning away of food in the next 2 days!

We don't sound like bad cat parent's do we? We'd loose a fortune if we canceled at this point, and truly, she's eating, drinking, using her box in all ways, and was chasing a fly about 20 minutes ago. If we hadn't asked for the X-ray, we'd have never known!

As Charlie Brown would say, "Aaaaaaaarrrrgh!"

I want Grace well, and I want my BC and YC!

You are NOT bad cat-parents... the vet stressed that one more week is no big deal. Also, you have family taking care of Grace. Have fun on you vacation. ;)

Looks like there might be a Hurricane threat between the 22nd and 28th.

The weather service is saying that they don't think anything major will become of the storm that is off the west coast of Africa right now...

Beach Club Villas:
- located close to the bus stop, the Marketplace, and the main BC lobby entrance
- convenient to the International Gateway. Many of the rooms will have a view of the high fireworks from Illuminations.
- really nice quiet pool , outdoor barbeques and picnic tables
- all villas and studios have a full balcony
- a 1 BR villa will have a full kitchen, a washer/dryer, a whirlpool bathtub, a shower stall, a master bedroom with a king bed, a living room with a sofa bed, two televisions, a full balcony off the living room. Some master bedrooms will have a full balcony, too.

The villas are farther from the boat dock and the SAB pool than the BC resort rooms are, but very close to Epcot. :)

thank you for the comparisons:wave2:princess:

Scott don't worry too much. Your folks will keep an eye on her. I know you think that you are going away while Grace needs you but like you mentioned if you had not xrayed her you would not know anything was potentially wrong. Since she is acting normal and going potty I would not stress about it. Just keep telling yourself she is in good hands while I am away. :)

A few years ago our cat was diagnosed with a UTI 6 hrs before we were to hop on a plane. I was stressed it was the first time we had dealt with a cat with a UTI and was not sure what to expect.. At least the vet was able to give her a shot of an antibodic that would last her 10 days. We were only going to Disney for 4 days and I fretted. We have a video surveillance system in our home so I was able to watch her. I could see she was eating and drinking and jumping up on her favorite chair. So I knew she would be okay while we were gone but none the less I fretted

I agree with the pp that if you didn't ask for an x-ray you would have never known. You're not a bad cat parent at all. Like you said, it probably has been there for a while and as long as she's eating and acting normal there's nothing to worry about.

Have a great trip!:goodvibes

We had a bit of a hiccup today.

It seems that if you make a plan and laminate it, you really should consult it. 8.30 this morning we are heading out to Ponderosa for breakfast before catching the IRide to Premium outlets for some shopping when I take a moment to glance at the plan. We were supposed to be at Seaworld.:scared1::laughing:

Oh, Scott!! I'm so sorry for the kitty, and you. What a horrible thing to happen, any time, but especially right before your trip.

If things seem to be going fine the next couple days, I think you are safe to leave. Do not feel bad, we have been in this type of situation before, too, and it makes you feel like a heel. You're not, Grace will be well taken care of and fine, I'm sure, until you can get back home and deal with whatever is the problem. I believe the vet would say so if you needed to change plans.

Try not to worry too much (not easy!) and do not feel bad for wanting to take your trip. Go, enjoy, don't feel guilty - that won't help her, anyway.:flower3:

LOL! I hate it when that happens!;)

Scott, you are not bad kitty parents. I hope your Grace is just fine and you can enjoy your vacation!

Poor Shamu was wondering where you were!

(Did you make it there?)

Yes you can! We always rent a car and have used this service for years. We check our luggage and just store our carry-ons in the trunk of the car. It is so convenient.

:welcome: to the thread and thanks for the helpful info!

:goodvibes

We'll be down the first week of November and decided to add on a couple nights at YC to the end of our stay. I had no problem getting the 9th but there's nothing for the 8th, I've been checking every day :( I know between the last weekend of F&W and the half marathon that weekend the Epcot resorts are busy--does anyone know if something is likely to open up for that night, maybe around the 45 day mark, or is it pretty much a lost cause?

:welcome:

Keep looking! Bookings change all the time. Like you said, the 45 day drop-deadline mark is a good time to possibly find some openings.

Good luck. Let us know if you are able to book.

:)

I'm really glad to hear that all systems are go!

Unless something drastically changes in the next day or so, I don't see any reason for you to make any changes, or to feel anything but excitement about your trip.

:thumbsup2

Good Morning all! Today is packing day -we leave at 4am tomorrow to start our journey :crazy2:

Thank you for all your advice (last night I pulled up the thread to show dh coffee machine) and words of wisdom. Hope to at least meet some of you at SAB Monday afternoon - we are planning some pool time around 1/2ish.

Safe travels all, Helen

Scott MC you actually sound like a very responsible kitty parent!! :thumbsup2. I know how it is. We love our little kitties too. In April we were all supposed to fly down to MD to visit family, but we were having issues with the cats and so DH ended up staying home with them while the kids and I went down alone. You do what you have to do!

3 more days for us!!!! Wooohooooo!!!! :cool1:

Thanks all for the kind words. It's a tough decision, but unless she visibly nosedives between now and Friday morning, we are still planning on our vacation. If we go tomorrow morning and the vet thinks she needs surgery, we now have options. She can be boarded there until they feel she is independent enough to go home, or one of their vet techs, for a very reasonable fee, will stop by the house to check on her twice a day. Combine that with my parents being nearby, and I think she'll be ok. She'd probably do well to convalesce in peace anyway!

For the record, we have a pretty good idea what she may have gotten into. We think it may be the "fuzz balls" from her kitty condo/scratching post they get all over the house, and we've both pulled fuzz balls from it out of her mouth in the past.

So, it's not how I envisioned it, meaning it's not all fun and delightful, but today is the "get things done" day! I have a mountain of laundry to do, I have to go rescue our suitcases from our storage unit, clean up the house since there will be cat-sitters galore, pick up anything we need, make Mouse-keeping envelopes, and to top it all off, we have season tickets to our local regional theater....so "Grease" is the word at 7:30 tonight.

Tomorrow, we were supposed to get a pre-vacation massage, but we're going to (very sadly) cancel that and go to the vet instead for one more consult. Then, I guess we'll do the 4,396 things we forgot to do today, followed by dinner with a good friend, and then we fly Friday morning at 6:05 A.M. Estimated arrival at BC, 10:30 A.M.!
