There are times we wonder about God's intervention

for the same reason that (some) religious people tell non-believers they are going to hell or that they need to accept jesus into their lives.

it's what we believe.

honestly - it is my opinion that people who believe in god are deluded. if the topic comes up, i'm not going to lie about my belief, just as i would not expect a christian to lie if i asked them if they thought i was going to hell.
Deluded...that's good to know.

I would NEVER say that someone who didn't believe in God was delusional.

Caity, I have always thought highly of you, and I have to say that personally hurt me. I don't see my behavior as delusional. And really it's not up to me to say who is going to hell or not. I have never once told my friends who do not believe the same way I do that they are going to hell (yes Hokie feel free to jump in here and rip me apart for not being a real Christian).

This was a real eye-opener. Thanks. :(

Nice story. If it is true, what a wonderful thing for him to do, if not, what a great inspiration to us all to make it true.

mj, i seriously meant no disrespect, but it is my belief, just as it is your belief that people who do not accept jesus will not experience heaven. perhaps you do not tell people that, but as a christian, you must believe that, right? just like you, i do not generally tell people my belief. i would certainly never walk up to an individual and say "you are deluded."

i am truly sorry if i hurt you. i used to be hurt when people told me i was going to hell as well. however, i have since come to the conclusion that there is no reason to be hurt. if i know someone is a christian, i can understand and even respect that they believe i am damned unless i accept jesus into my life. likewise, i would hope people that know i am an atheist know i believe god does not exist and is a delusion.

there is nothing wrong with having different beliefs. people with differing beliefs can still be friends and even respect one another. i still have a great deal of respect for you, and i am sorry if you no longer feel that way about me.

however, i am not sorry for my beliefs, and you (or any christian) shouldn't be sorry for yours either.

I don't understand why people have to say that others believing is wrong...

But I said nothing of the kind, yet the responses are worded like I did. Usually that kind of thing happens when somebody has a problem with another, and that sure seems to be the case here.

As for the 1,999 thread, I was just expressing that I thought it wasn't the best thing to say to people who have spouses serving, that's all.

Another perfect example. I was attacked many times based on things I didn't even say.

Wow Caity that was sad. Deluded? I love God. I believe in him and I know for a fact hes real. Hes done so much in my life and hes shown me so much. If that makes me delusional so be it, I'll be delusional when I'm in Heaven as well. I would never say anyone is going to hell based on their beliefs. I would hope that they would get right with God through my beliefs that I wish everyone would be saved. However, if they choose not to believe, just as I have chosen TO believe that is their RIGHT. I would never try to push my relationship (I hate the word religion) with God onto someone else. I would never push or try to trick anyone into faith. I just choose to express my beliefs and feelings and would hope to be respected just as I respect others beliefs and feelings.

Oh dear I am sorry that I started this I really didn't mean for people to get hostile with each other. I guess this was the reason it took me 6 years to get a little over 400 posts. I was always afraid that I would hurt someone's feelings or start something without trying. :guilty:

No matter how many times it happens, it's always shocking that Christians think their views on who's going to hell, or who is going to be "left behind", are any less hurtful than saying people are delusional.

It must be wonderful to have "only what you believe" to be seen as acceptable rather than a personal attack.

Please don't feel bad. You were sweet enough to share a touching letter. Tempers have been up lately and I am sorry your thread twisted on you :flower2:

It hurts to be on the other end too, or does that count?
Both sides could learn to exercise tolerance better. No one cares to have their beliefs/opinions bashed. It would help if all of us remembered how it feels to get "bashed" the next time we are tempted to bash someone else over their beliefs.

So we're wrong otherwise... perfect example.

Cardaway, ***? How is my saying I believe in God a personal attack? Where have I proclaimed who is going to heaven and who is going to hell?

And yes being called delusional does hurt, even the second and third time around. How does believing in God mean I am delusional even if you don't believe in His existance? I don't get it. Why can't it be that you don't believe and I do and that's that? Where does the delusion come in? I really don't understand.

But all those shots you have taken at me were just fine I'm sure. If that came from a third party it might just mean something.

Don't worry. Its OK. I don't think anyone on this thread, regardless of what they believe, feels you did anything wrong or hurt anyone's feelings. Sometimes threads take on a life of their own that was completely unintended by the original poster.

Don't worry yourself about this....no big deal. You try to do something nice..you know the saying about how no good deed goes unpunished.
Now, as to who's going to hell and who believes what...my God people, get a grip on yourselves. Yes, I am a practicing Christian. Do I evangelize? Nope, hate the very thought. WHat you choose to believe is up to you. Some may argue this point with me, but I don't think it's any of my business to talk someone else into believing the way I do. Going to Hell? Well, my view of hell is being absent from the light of Christ after I die. But is it up to me to tell you whether or not you go to heaven based on what you believe? Give me a break....that's just a bit presumptious don't you think. Religion/belief is a very personal thing. You believe what you choose to believe. The way I figure it....God will do the judging when we get there.....I sure as heck don't need to be judging people.
Don't tell me what to believe and I won't tell you what you should believe. But it sure isn't terribly nice to sit here and insult people because they have different beliefs than you do...be it Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Agnostic or Athiest or anything inbetween.
Blessings!!!!!!

Not at all what I said, but this is happening so often now I'm getting used to it.

I'm of the relious flavor, albeit a different religion..I believe G-d exists. Other posters don't.. If you feel that someone believes in something that doesn't exist, than what better word applies than delusional. If I believe an alien named Minroc created humans and Sally Smith believes no such creature exists, what other explanation is theit to Sally, but that I'm delusional.
My 2 best friends are athiests.. They believe that I believe in a fictional charector. To them I'm delusional..
PS. If I don't answer any further posts for a while it's because I have a doctors appointment at 4 PM

Believe it our not but I am sitting here crying because I feel like a monster. People are being so ugly and I didn't mean for this to happen. You can go back through anything I have ever posted and most of them are just to make people laugh and feel good if only for a few minutes.

I am going to email the moderators and ask them to close this post.

I am so sorry.

Don't you worry yourself! You posted a wonderful, inspirational story.

Some of the people on this board remind me of road rage. They have all this hosility built up for God (yes, I said GOD) only knows why and just can't wait to pounce on an innocent thread and start debating each other and stirring up controversy. It really has nothing to do with you or what you posted. It is just another excuse for them to start their endless, pointless debates.

You just keep on being you.

I, for one, apologize to the OP for my part in this argument. It was a nice story, your motives were good, and a bunch of us just sort of ran away with it. It happens around here. But rest assured, you didn't offend or hurt anyone. :)

AuntDisney...You did nothing wrong. You posted a nice story..The thread has evolved into something else that is not your fault
