Did anyone watch this movie last night? I didn't realize it would run so late. I thought it would be over at 11. Needless to say, I fell asleep and missed the end (getting too old to stay up past 11!!). :p

Can anyone tell me how it ended? The last part I saw TK (I think that's his name!) had rabies and was hiding a gun under the pillow. Janie found it and removed some of the bullets. Can anyone tell me what happened after that?

You fell asleep very close to the ending - soon after Janie paid one of the men to go get teh doctor - Teacake saw her and flipped out - pulled the pistol on her (there was 1 bullet left) and she pulled a rifle on him - they both shot at the same time - he was killed - after that she returned "home".

Did you like the movie?? I really enjoyed it.

:flower:

Zora Neale Hurston is not rolling over in her grave - she's digging out of it to come and WHUP Oprah's and Halle's butts for destroying her book. My God...this is not a romance novel!

They really took out the most important parts of the book and made it all about how hot the two actors were. They really screwed with Tea Cake's character. The most glaring omission was that they skipped the part when he beats Janie to prove that he has control over her and everyone (women and men) marvels at the bruises on Janie's fair complexion. Then there were subtle things, like his flirtation with Nuncie (or whatever her name was) in the fields or the fact that he (and not some white guy) was the person that dismissed the Native Americans evacuation of the Everglades, that made his character more complex than the hot guy who can teach someone how to french kiss.

They also really should have incorporated at least some of the colorism that is pretty prevalent throughout the book into the movie. For example, it should have been said that Janie always thought of herself as white until she was six years old, or that she was around women who privileged her lighter skin and criticized TeaCake for his darker skin. I always thought that the book was more about Janie establishing her identity as an African American woman than about her getting it on with a younger guy.

I was EXTREMELY disappointed in this movie. Go read the book, it's MUCH MUCH better than the garbage that was on TV.

I have to agree. If you've read the book before seeing the movie the book is SOOOO much better. My roomate really liked the movie but she's never read the book.

Thanks for the update, since I too didn't make it to the end. I really didn't think this movie was all that good, and felt it was hyped way to much, as much as I love Halle Berry, it just was not something that really grabbed me.,, so perhaps that is why I didn't make it all the way to the end.But to each their own.

...Maybe even more!! I fell asleep on the couch close to 11pm. I was really looking forward to this movie! I was wicked disappointed!! The movie was boring. I kept thinking that the book must be better, because I usually like the books Oprah promotes. Too bad.

I enjoyed the movie, but after reading the replies here, I'm going to have to read the book. I wonder why they decided to change the story so much??? :confused3

I did watch the movie, but did not read the book. I was expecting something different than what i saw. It just seemed like the movie was lacking something. Oh, and was not happy that the movie ran until 11:30.

I got bored in the movie, and went and bathed the dog in the middle of it! Just wasnt that great to me, but the book is bound to be better!
