The thing was, the apology was half sincere.

Jeff: Jeff politely told the group he was sorry for their loss. He said, "So Nova-"

Nova: "Yeah?" she asked. "What's up?"

Jeff: "Can we-" he paused. "Talk?"

Nova: Nova excused herself. She followed Jeff uncertainly.

Jeff: Once they were away from the table, he turned to face Nova. He asked, "How are you personally holding up?"

Nova: "I've been much better. But doing fine."
