Well folks, a year ago today, Mallinda became my wife. And I've kept her in check ever since ;) :D

I jest. She's on here...she will kill me. But seriously, today was our 1 year anniversary. The plan is to just take it easy then we're heading to Boma tonight for our anniversary dinner. The Monster is going to be staying over night with her grand parents. God knows what would happen if she could get at the animals at Animal Kingdom Lodge :D

We start the day by taking a casual stroll over to POFQ. I particularly liked this about the Port Orleans Resort and quite often we would walk between the sites.

Some photos from along the way:

We then get the bus from POFQ, which takes us to...POR! Which is expected, then on to Downtown Disney. We liked going to DTD in the early morning as it's usually quite quiet. Especially no tour groups :D

The bus stop at the Marketplace is currently getting refurbished so we get dropped off at West Side.

sdc12251.jpg

We get off the bus and take a stroll over towards Planet Hollywood, and past what used to be Starbillias, then round to Vir....whoa whoa whoa. What the heck is this!? Where's Virgin?

They replaced Virgin with this:

sdc12255.jpg

I mean this!?:

sdc12257h.jpg

You're telling me it was replaced with this!!!?!?!??!:

The most amusing thing about this whole situation is that an old English couple walked past and asked if we wanted to get a photo together!

I must've bought a few drinks in Pleasure Island already!

Mollie's expression: “Bright light, bright light!”
sdc12260.jpg

Oh look, DisneyQuest.
sdc12261s.jpg

sdc12262t.jpg

“Ahhh ahhh ahhh, we livin' in a ghost town, all the clubs have been closed down...” - or something like that. All you Specials fans will get that reference. And slighlty ironic I might ad.This is the view of West Side at about 10am.

Pleasure Island, although it isn't really Pleasure Island anymore, well it is, but it's not, oh I'm oh so confused.
sdc12264r.jpg

The Adventurer's Club, which is rumored to be re-opening eventually. We've never been before but apparently it's a Disney staple.
sdc12266.jpg

Cookes of Dublin, clearly.
sdc12267.jpg

Ton's House! I've always wanted to go there...
sdc12268v.jpg

sdc12269.jpg

Oh wait, my bad. It's Fulton's Crab House. Completely different, I'll give it a miss :D Fulton's was actually a place we were originally considering going for our anniversary but at the time of booking my parents weren't coming out so we thought Boma would be more suitable for taking Mollie.

Look, it's T-Rex, although actually that's a Stegosaurus...
sdc12270e.jpg

Never have been to T-Rex. It's on a to do list or many restaurants. We didn't even really have a look in the gift shop. Not a lot of shops are really designed to allow easy to access to people with strollers.

A nice early morning view of the lagoon.
sdc12271.jpg

Mmmm, Ghiradellis'. Although, today it was not to be, but we will be back.
sdc12272d.jpg

Trend was actually quite a nice little retro type of shop. There was actually a good two or three things reduced as well. The only confusing thing about the shop is that it's connected onto Team Mickey, so one minute your looking round all the stylish Disney clothes then all of a sudden you walk into piles of sports clothing.
sdc12273v.jpg

No McDonalds either. No, today was to be...Earl of Sandwich! They make the best ever Sandwiches. It' wasn't particularly busy, but the seating area inside, which was fairly small, was. So we opted to sit outside as it was fairly mild.
sdc12275h.jpg

Mallinda took a photo of me:
sdc12276i.jpg

But then said she had to take another as I looked a bit like a muppet!
sdc12277u.jpg

Married life, eh?

sdc12278.jpg

My sandwich. The Earl's Club, which is basically chicken, bacon, tomato, lettuce cheese and mayo, served warmed. Delicious!

This is the face you get when you eat one of their sandwiches...
sdc12279.jpg

Well not that actual face. That's my wife's. Obviously, you'd get your own face but in a similar style.

Mollie wasn't a great believer in sandwiches so we took her for a McDonalds Chicken Nugget happy meal. I like how in the US, you actually get toys in McDonalds specifically for toddlers.

After that, we decide to take her over to the small carousel. I like that it plays fairground versions of theme park music...almost like a carnie Disney!
sdc12283.jpg

Then we go to Pooh's Corner, which although is a good shop, seems somewhat of a dumping ground for Winnie the Pooh rather than an actual dedicated shop, but it's good nonetheless for the Winnie the Pooh fanatics.

Time for a photo!
sdc12285.jpg

After this, the Monster discovers...the fountains. Much to everyone else's joy. Everyone was stopping and laughing as she literally attacked them. She would run at the screaming then burst out laughing as she was hit in the face.

sdc12292q.jpg

Wait, we spent how much getting here? I could have just shot a hose at her for free!?

It's starting to get pretty hot. You know the kind where you can literally feel it on your back, so we decide to head down to the water to get a boat back. Another great service of the Port Orleans Resort, which we used quite often. On the way, we take a few shots of Saratoga Springs, which is on my to-do list as well. Also taking some shots of the Treehouse Villas. We remember being there when they were originally building these so it's good to see them finally finished.

The Wrigglemonster, just about wriggle...

They always say this boat ride takes about 35 minutes, but it never feels like it...feels like 1hr and 35 minutes! Nah, I kid, it's a really enjoyable relaxing way to head 'home' and depending on when you get, they've often got little tidbits and stories to share.

We head back to POR to have a freshen up for heading out tonight, and my mum and dad come to pick up the Monster!

We're quite excited tonight as we're heading to Boma. We've heard nothing but good things about it and we wanted to check out the AKL as well. Our ADR is at 5:55pm so we get a bus at the back of 4pm. The bust driver is a tad confused as Animal Kingdom shuts at 5pm tonight, but we explain we're just going to AK to transfer over to AKL. Seems the easiest. A nice touch was that alothugh we weren't the only people on the bus, the bus driver made sure that we knew which bus stance to go to for AKL.

Continued...

So we arrive at AK and step out the bus. It's still pretty hot but people are now coming out of the park. We join a HUGE line to AKL. Didn't realise it would be so busy, but nonetheless we got on the bus. Whilst waiting in the queue, there was a plane flying about, writing numerous messages about GOD/JESUS/CHRIST/YOU...etc. And here was me thinking it was some sort of promotion for UP!

We get on the bus for the incredibly short journey, then we're through the gates at AKL. Now I didn't realise there were 2 buildings at AKL. When the bus stopped, there was some confusion as to what was where. Someday mentioned Boma being at this one so we got off the bus and walked in to the lobby...Boma wasn't at this one! It was at the Jambo house! Where was the Jambo House!?

We asked one of the CM's in the shop in the lobby where Boma was, and he explained it was in the Jambo house and that we could either walk it, or get the bus. Seen as it was a nice night (when is it not!?) we decided to take a walk over to the Jambo house, taking a few snaps along the way.

sdc12311.jpg

sdc12312.jpg

This way to the Jambo House!

sdc12313.jpg

Oh, here' Jambo's House. I hope he's in.

Let me say, I loved the AKL. It was so grand, and given the choice I would definitely pick this over someplace like the Grand Floridian.

sdc12315.jpg

sdc12316.jpg

sdc12317.jpg

The lobby is huge. We go up to the Boma check-in desk, and explain that we did have a reservation for 3 of us (Mollie, me and Mallinda) but now it was 'just myself and my wife' to which the CM then asks, 'so how many in your party?'...'uh, two'. So we're given our buzzer and we've got a bit of time to wait. I believe at this point it's just not long after 5pm.

We decide to go for a walk around the hotel checking out the sites. We go out and check out the Savanna but much to my disappointment (as noted in another thread) it seems we missed the Giraffes, although I wouldn't exactly say it was a deal breaker. We potter about outside then decide to head up to the observation area for a bit.

We then head out to the lobby as it's getting close to our ADR. We hang over the balcony and you can smell all the meats wafting up from Boma. Hmm, must be where the Giraffes went ;)

Not before long, our buzzer goes off and it’s time for our ADR. Oh, it’s sooo exciting. We walked down the long stair case and reach there bottom where it actually looks pretty busy. Turns out, it was only the waiting area that was really busy.

Within a couple of minutes, we were introduced to our server and we were escorted to our table. She took our drinks order, with me just having a Coke, whilst Mallinda opted for a Glowtini that seem to be quite popular. She did however end up getting id’d, which I’m sure made her night! :D

sdc12332.jpg

With the drinks orders taken, it was off to the buffet, which was a good thing as we were well and truly starving.

One thing that is fantastic at Boma, is the Salmon in Coconut Butter. It’s amazing! It’s just on a huge tray and you can go and take as much as you like. We also had some chicken in African spices. I also like the carved meat that they had. Not sure if it was beef or pork though, but was good all the same.

sdc12334.jpg

Mallinda is more of a savory person, with me being more of a sweet person (naturally ;) ) So I only have a couple of runs really at the main meal food. It was very good and I would definitely recommend going back as there were multiple types of soups that looked good, but we were saving ourselves for the desserts.

Oh and what good desserts they were. The best ones, I thought anyway were the Zebra Domes, and there was another one that was like a little chocolate cup that had cinnamon mouse in it, with a white and dark chocolate straw. Never really took any photos of the food, I’m afraid. Needless to say there were a few trips up to the dessert counter.

Just before leaving we were presented with a long dish that had 4 desserts on it, specifically as this was our wedding anniversary. They were very good, but we couldn’t finish them as we were full. We felt pretty bad about not finishing them, but hey ho. We thanked our server, and paid. I think it cost roughly $78 including tip.

Boma is one of thos place where you leave with a big grin on your face because you know it's been a fantastic time.

We then wobbled on the way up the stairs and felt suitably stuffed. You know when someplace is a keeper, when as soon as you leave, even though your full, you’d go back!

We popped into the shop in actual fact to see if I could get a t-shirt with Boma on it, but no joy. We did find another bargain though.

Disney currently have these circular sets with 6 soft plastic toys in them, kind of like bath toys. On our first day, we picked up Mollie the Pixar one. It featured, Mr. Incredible, Dash, Woody, Buzz, Sully and another that I’ve just drawn a blank with. Don’t think it was Mike though. Oh, just remembered. It was Nemo.

This cost us $15. There’s a variety of different sets, and we managed to pick up the ‘classics’ one for about $3.99.

This set had Aladdin, Hercules, Pinnochio, Dopey, Alice and Peter Pan. So that was a pretty good deal. We were fair chuffed with ourselves till we realized it was in all the others stores as well :(

We then headed out to the bus stance as we were going to head over to Epcot, as it was open latest tonight. Now I understand why they do this, as there are sometimes multiple buses at the one stand, but surely there can be a more organised way of getting the bus. All too often, you get to the bus stand and you’re waiting for a while. Now because it’s such an open space, what you actually get is people coming up last minute and walking on the bus in front of you. This happened at the Epcot stand, so all we did was hopped on a bus to MK and then got the Monorail over to Epcot. Not a huge complaint, just something I noticed.

sdc12335e.jpg

sdc12339.jpg

We then arrive at Epcot which is actually quite quiet for EMH. We decide to do Spaceship Earth again as the first time we did it, it was a bit long for the Wrigglemonster, and lets just say, she lived up to her namesake.

sdc12342.jpg

It was a walk-on. Literally no queue. Have to say, I do prefer the Jeremy Iron's narration as opposed to Judy Dench. Dench's narration is ok, but I just prefer the old one. I feel Iron's narration was more epic and fit the attraction more.

We came out and headed over to Test Track which had a wait of about 45 minutes and all fast passes were gone. We decided to leave it and try another day (we never get on it :( ) and head over to Mission:Space where the wait for the fairly tame version was 5 minutes, so we went on that version. Mallinda wasn't keen on trying the more intense version.

I think when Disney say that it's a 5 minute wait, what that really means is the time it takes you to walk through the queue, because as soon as we did, we were on and away to go. I love Mission: Space. It just feels like a really interactive ride, even though everything is pre-determined.

Ellen's Energy Adventure seemed to be closed so we opted for a walk around the World Showcase. It was EMH in the park so it wasn't REALLY quiet, but was fairly quiet. The first thing we came up to was the Grand Fiesta Tour, which had no wait, so we though, what the hell, why not?

It's a nice relaxing boat ride, very much in the similar style of It's A Small World. It was actually a good ride, we had a really nice American family who were taking photos so as I was in the background decided to just muster up a smile and lean in to the photo :D

As we head out, we're starting to get tired but decide to do Maelstrom as Mallinda had never done it before, and it was only showing a 20 minute wait.

Well we headed in and it looked absolutely heaving, a lot more busy than 20 minutes. An American guy in front stormed out saying the line was crazy, and that he wasn't waiting.

You're lucky if it did actually even take 15 minutes to get on the ride. So we were off and away. I love Maelstrom as it's very much one of those old style attractions that remind me of when I was younger and used to go to Epcot.

We're getting more tired as the night goes on but decide to try The American Adventure. We literally stand in the lobby part, then opt to leave and head home as we're really tired.

So head back to the bus, with a day well spent I would say, and we wait...and we wait...and we wait. Buses come round on regular succession, however never stopping for Port Orleans. This goes on for maybe half an hour max. Then the man who must be responsible for the scheduling comes over and speaks to a couple of people. Next thing you know, there's a bus there. You then get an American woman who was quite a bit behind us waiting in a queue, lambasting the bus controller explaining that hey had been waiting here for about an hour...uh not in this line, missy!

sdc12344u.jpg

Mallinda pateintly waiting for the bus. When we're here, we just go with the flow. There's enough hassle at home to worry about without getting stressed here at little things.

So head back to our room for a kip to start all over again tomorrow, because after all...tomorrow is another day.

You certainly pack lots into your days. Glad you're having a good time.
