Mine was a guy I met through a mutual friend. We had seen each other at events a few times. We went to dinner and a mall about an hour from home (a destination mall). It started at dinner when he was telling me about his aspirations to be president some day. He had me turn my head so he could check my profile. My nose apparently met his criteria. He went on to tell me that I was pretty enough to be his First Lady, and that our kids would be good looking enough to befit a president. His biggest compliment was that I was smart enough to not say something stupid to the press and make him look bad. I got very distant and he agreed to take me home. The icing on the cake was that in the car he said he didn't want to take me home because he knew I would never go out with him again. Um, yeah!
Haha! I had a date almost exactly this during the fall semester of my freshman year in college!
This guy was a year ahead of me & was on the student council at our college. We ended up sitting next to each other at some extra credit event (some kind of play or opera I think). Anyway, we got to talking, & he discovered that he & I were both very similar in our political leanings. And I guess because we really only had time to talk during intermission & after the event, there was more back & forth dialogue between us... I don't know.
Anyway, a couple of weeks later, he asked me out. And it was also at a restaurant at a "destination" type mall. LOL!
And, no joke, for the ENTIRE dinner, he proceeded to talk politics & religion & family views (how many kids did I want, did I want to be a stay-at-home mom, etc.). He had political aspirations & planned to be a big star in Washington, D.C. I felt like he was vetting me for the position of his First Lady.
I was sitting at dinner, listening to him drone on & on, & picturing our lives together w/ me as his dutiful political wife.
I mean, I like politics as much as the next person, & we were very similar in what we believed... but, seriously, the whole time I was w/ him, it was politics & absolutely nothing else.
For example, we were walking in the parking lot of the restaurant back to his car, and he saw something that reminded him of Reagan. I don't even remember what it was... but I can't think of any other time I've been walking in a parking lot & suddenly thought "Reagan!" But EVERYTHING led back to politics.
Anyway, apparently I passed his test because when he brought me home, he asked me for another date... Which would have been me going Christmas shopping w/ his mom & then his mom & I meeting him & his dad for dinner. I guess so I could pass their test too? 2nd date, & he wants me to go Christmas shopping by myself w/ his mom?
I politely declined.
And the guy did end up serving as a local state representative for several years.
