The World of Wogging.

Hey Everyone! It's mixer time!!!!!

We are having a mixer at Hakuna Matata! Jack has once again shown up with an idea. Tomorrow we ALL want to know what your very favorite movie is. I don't mean just a movie you like! I mean the ONE movie that you would choose to have on a deserted island. Just you and the movie!!!

And as long as we are talking movies, what goes better with a movie than the perfect snack??? Tell us about your movie snack. Maybe you do something that is just so kewl that the rest of us need to try it too!!!!

So, choose your movies well!! You are stuck with 'em until you are rescued!!!!

Come on over and join us! I see faces (names) that are new to me!!!

Easy...Bridget Jones Diary (Colin Firth AND Hugh Grant...YUMMM) while I'm snacking on popcorn with parm. cheese sprinkled on it!

I wogged the Princess half this year and plan on doing it again with my BFF next year. I may try to make it a regular occurance for me. It was a great time for me. I have restarted the C25K program and will be finishing up week 3 tonight. I now know that I can complete the race, now I want to have a good time for the race.

That's fantastic! Congrats on finishing your first 1/2. I love hearing about everyone's successes!

Hi everybody!!

Your thread has caught me eye and I wanted to chime in with some (hopeful) inspiration. A little over 27 months ago I started exercising again after something like 5 years off (and that was after exercising for around 3 years which had followed like an 8 - 10 year layoff). I started with a slow approach, which fit my inactive lifestyle, of walking 3 minutes and "running" 1 minute intervals (back then running was probably more life shuffling my feet, but it felt like running to me).

Thanks for all the good wishes. That's so fantastic that you have really changed your life for the better. It's very inspirational.

And I love your board name!

No wogging for me today. Too cold - 48 and windy. uggghhh. went shopping at Kohl's instead :lmao:during soccer practice. Had to use that 20% coupon.

Tiberius:

Congratulations on your very significant weight loss and your quest to get healthy and fit. What's so awesome about running is that some people have alot of natural talent for it, but they may not even know it, cause they never tried it.

Good luck to everyone!

So I did my first 30 minutes this morning on the treadmill. This is going to be hard. :lmao: I am so out of shape it's ridiculous, I'm trying to focus on the positives.
*I got out of bed and to the gym.
*I finished my full 30 minutes.

Yay Me! :thumbsup2

I forgot how little I like walking on treadmills. I always feel like I am going to fall off, I had a death grip on one of the handles and I think I'm going to have a blister....on my hand.....from the handle. :rotfl: Yep, I'm special like that.

Does anyone else exercise in the mornings?

Congrats on your first day! Love to exercise in the morning. supposedly it resets your a metabolism to a higher rate all day long. So you were burning more calories all day today. :thumbsup2

I hate treadmills, too! I am always holding on for dear life. Our treadmill has this emergency clip on it, so you can't fall off. But I still managed to fall off the back once! :rolleyes1 I do better on the road! :rotfl:

This morning's workout didn't go as well as I wanted. Today was only a 20 minute workout according to my schedule....and I only did 15 minutes. I did the bike for 10 minutes and I had such a pain on my foot that I had to stop. I think this seals that I need to get better sneakers. I'm pretty bummed about this. All the treadmills were taken so I went on the elipitical, oh my goodness that thing is a torture machine. :lmao: I did another 5 minutes on that. I couldn't do anymore. I then took the long way from the gym back to my building so I probably did get another 5 minutes in of walking but I am not going to count that as I didn't really time it. Today was a lot harder to keep going while I was exercising but I got up easier out of bed.

Tomorrow is another 30 minute workout. I might walk after work outside just to mix it up. I don't want to walk outside in the morning because I get a little freaked out since it's still dark out when I start. I'll keep you posted on what I decide. :thumbsup2

We are watching a friend's dog and I have found it has made my walking a lot easier because I can take her out with me which is really really nice. I don't know what I am going to do when school starts back up because like you it is dark in the morning and at night I'm so tired when I get home...I'm going to have to find someway to motivate myself.

I think part of my problem this morning was that I was not in the right frame of mind. Yesterday when it got tough, I kept saying things like, You can do this, you want to do the 1/2 Marathon, you want to get healthy, etc. This morning I didn't even think of that stuff. So I know I have to do that tomorrow.

I totally believe exercise is 80% mental and 20% physical...if you aren't mentally ready then it won't happen!! I know you can do this...and I can't wait to finish up that race together...it will be a great memory to have!

LL:

You did great for day 2! Are you kidding. You should be very proud. There is nothing fun about exercise, but when you start to see the effects - the increased endurance, increased muscle tone, and weight loss - you will get more motivated. You will never love exercise, but you can still stay committed!

My true motivation for exercise and training for this year's Princess half was the trip to WDW and the pictures at the castle. Now my motivation is the fact that I have signed up for the full in January and I will be signing up for the Princess half again. I always kept Disney in mind when I was training and that helped me to stay focused. I have 60-80 pounds to lose before I am healthy/at my ideal weight, but having the option of Disney trips always keeps me motivated.

I've never tried an elliptical. It tires me out just watching people on it. I can't take much time on the stationary bikes at all. My rear end starts hurting after all of a minute or so and I can't wait to get off. I'm lucky if I make it 20 minutes or so. I can last a little longer on the recumbent ones, but still I prefer the treadmill. I used to love the stairmasters when I was back in college, so I may have to try them again. They are very good for the rear end, of which my own could use a lot of work.

It does sound like you need some new shoes. I'm not starting any official running until I get some new ones. I'm hoping my tax return is in my account on Friday so I can go on Saturday afternoon. I found a running store a few towns over and want to go and get a professional fitting for my running sneakers. They watch the way you run so they can fit you with a pair especially for your stride.

I give anyone credit for having the proper frame of mind first thing in the morning. I'd be completely miserable. I'd be thinking things like "stupid 1/2 marathon". :rotfl: The one bad thing about the marathon is that it's in the morning. Ugh! I'm going to have to have a few of you around when I do it just to give me a wake up call!

I ended up not going to the gym yesterday night. My heel, which has been bothering me for a week or so was actually feeling better yesterday so I thought it would be best to give it a full day off. It was feeling better on Sunday, so I went walking at night, and woke up to a painful foot again. I have no clue what I did to it. Plus it was awfully cold out last night and I was being a bit wimpish.

I'm going to go to the gym and walk a couple of miles tonight. I dragged my lazy butt up at 5am today to call in for my Zumba class tomorrow. After hitting redial on my phone about 20 times I was caller #19. So Zumba is on the plan for tomorrow. If I'm feeling really ambitious maybe I'll try to squeeze in one or two miles. If I don't the Zumba class alone is still a really good workout.

Never never do the Eliptical on day #2!!! You did great for your second day. Don't be upset. It may help to spread out your workouts a little more. You might not be ready for two days in a row. Don't forget that the program only calls for 3 days at week not every day. If I were you, I would skip tomorrow and give your foot a rest. DO NOT GET DOWN :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

My Walking the 1/2 Marathon calls for 5 days a week with two rest days. I'm not sure what I am going to do. I was thinking about going for a walk tonight after dinner with Marc and then resting tomorrow as the inlaws are coming over for dinner and I am going to need all the sleep possible to deal with that. ;)

I do think I need to start out "slower". Bah, it's kinda discouraging but I keep telling myself at least I am doing SOMETHING. I don't think it is helping that I am still exhausted from moving last weekend. I think I need to get some good sleep tonight and re-evaluate my plan for the rest of the week.

You need to switch to Couch to 5K...it's much slower. It might work better for you. And it calls for 3 20 minute work outs on week one instead of 5 30 minutes (I did 30 but it only calls for 20)

I wouldn't worry about starting slower. You have much more time to get ready for the marathon than what the plan is calling for. There is no need to be in full on training mode when you have nearly 2 years to prepare.

Listen to your body, and just do what it is comfortable with now. You have plenty of time to build up to more days, speed and distance.

I think I will check out that link then! Thanks. :thumbsup2
