How crowded is WDW in September? I've only ever gone in the summer, so we have pretty much always been in "commando" mode when we go to the parks. I just want to know what to expect while I'm drawing up an itinerary. We are going 9/16 to 9/23.

I would like to know this as well....we will be there the exact same dates....staying at POP Sept. 16th-23rd..... :thumbsup2

September is generally a great month to go although it will be hot and humid. The only draw back is the possibility of hurricanes.... I have been through hurricanes at Disney twice already. The one suggestion I would make is to be sure and make all your adr's ahead of time... due to the free dining promotion TS restuarants may be more crowded. I have never waited more than 15 min in a line during sept and I have never used fast pass either. As you can see by my sig I have been the last 5 years in Sept and I think it is the best month. We like to go to the parks at opening and then take afternoon breaks during the hottest part of the day and then head back out at night. Evening hours may be shorter also but we had alot of fun at evening emh's!!

Wow!!! That's the same week our family is going and staying at the Pop too. But don't go by this thread with three going at the same time or you'd believe the world will be packed.

We went the same time last year with the free dining plan just like this year and there were no crowds. At park openings, the parks were vacant; absolutely no lines. We rode several rides numerous times without leaving the seat since no one was waiting. The crowds picked up as the day went on, but never what I'd call crowded.

The only time we felt somewhat crowded was during the Spectro-Parade and late afternoon at Animal Kingdom, but even then, nothing compared to the summer crowds.

We did take advantage of some of Tour Guide Mike's suggestions and plans from the Unofficial Guide. That might have made a difference.

One last point to consider, while the parks aren't crowded, the restaurants are. With the free dining, you must make your AR's early and don't wait until you get there if you have special places you'd like to eat. We ate at several character meals and two of the nicer restaurants and they were packed and turning them away at the door.

Have a great time and let's all pray for good weather
.

September is great but make your ADRs. Disney expects less people in September and has less CMs in the restaurants. Even though there are less people in the park, there are less seats in the restaurants also so it can be just as difficult to get a last minute ADR.

We are also going at the end of Sept. for the free DDP and we were wondering what the crowds can be compared to.

Can anyone tell me what is longest time you have waited for an attraction? Were there days when the FP machines were actually closed? And more importantly, what do you consider a walk on? Is it a ride where there is virtually NO WAIT or a ride with a 5-10 min. wait?

We are used to July crowds so we know it can never be that bad, but I am still wondering about the crowds....We like to be at the parks for the opening and pretty much do the important rides in the morning and take it easy by PM by shopping and hitting AC shows.

Whadda ya think?

We have been to WDW many times in September, and the crowds are very low compared to the summer. If you have only been during the summer before, you will be amazed at the difference. Weather is an issue, but we have never had any of our September trips impacted by hurricanes or other weather considerations. We may have been very lucky, because many hurricanes in recent years have affected others' plans (especially in 2004). There is typically high heat and humidity, but this is easily manageable with a little thinking ahead. Just make sure you drink lots of water and try to plan a mid-afternoon break for swimming or just some rest. In our opinion, the benefits of the low crowds in September vastly outweigh the risks associated with weather.

To answer the questions posed by nluvwithmickey: A "walk-on" line is just that - you walk through the queue without stopping and board the ride. This is fairly frequent during September, and we have encountered this on just about every ride in WDW at various times, depending on the time of day and the date in September when we were there. We also encountered many FP machines closed during September 2004 and September 2005 (particularly in 2004 when one of the hurricanes caused many cancellations and then moved to the west, leaving a virtually empty park with no weather problems at all). Typically on our September visits, the longest wait we encounter is about 15-20 minutes, but a wait this long is very rare. We tend to arrive at the EMH park at opening and hop to a different park in the afternoon, so if your plans differ you may experience slightly heavier crowds. Even if the late afternoon and evening, however, we usually experience very low crowds.

Having said all of that, we have noticed that the crowds in late September are starting to grow a little in recent years. This is probably associated with the marketing efforts to get more people to come during the Fall, such as free dining. Last year, we were there toward the end of September and into the beginning of October, which overlapped with the start of MNSSHP and the Food & Wine Festival. We particularly noticed heavier crowds at the end of the month leading into October, but "heavier crowds" is still relative - the crowds were still much lower than most other times of the year. We also noticed more people in the restaurants, probably because of free dining.

In general, we find September to be a great time to go. If you arrive early at the parks, you should be able to do pretty much everything that you want at a leisurely pace in 1/2 day or less. Have a great time!

September is one of the best times to go, excepting only hurricanes. The weather is warm enough for shorts, with maybe a light sweater or jacket at night, it's warm enough to swim if you want, and the crowds are lighter since most families are back in school. If hurricanes are a big concern for you, I'd suggest not going, but I enjoyed our September trip very much-we came to Disney the week after Hurricane Fran hit NC in 1996--it was a much needed vacation after no power for over a week.

I'm going 1st September - 10th and I'm very excited about it. I have only ever been in summer so looking forward to less crowds. I think hurricanes are a concern but its the only time of year (in fact the only week) i can go so just got to make the most of it. I cant wait to ride EE. Do you think we will have time to ride EE then ride Safaris then Dinosaur with not much waiting? or do you think i should use FP.

we have been during that week every year since 03...our honeymoon.
We will again be at the world this sept from the 17 - 22 at CBR.
We have ridden out 1 hurricane while there in september (Jeanne) wasn't bad at all.

Last september was H-O-T! We only lasted half days at the parks and spent afternoons by the pool. (we did Universal and IOA as well)
We were able to do EVERYTHING we wanted in each of the parks in a half to 3/4 of a day.

We were there during the free dining plan last year...however, we were not on it. Honestly - we didn't have that much difficulty making same day ADR's. (ie - making the ADR in the morning for dinner that night) We also have a friend who is a CM that made some ADR's for us. He did mess one up, and we showed up to Jiko at 8pm with, evidently, no ADR. They sat us w/in 30 seconds. No lie.

Yes, park hours are a bit shorter, but you can do so much more with less people there. We do love going in Sept...and are so happy we get to celebrate our wedding anniversary there every year.

I know this is a yucky question to ask, but since we're talking about September, does anybody know if Disney does anything to commemorate 9/11? I'll be there on the day, and I just wonder if it will be just a normal day, or different things happening?

Thanks for answering everyone! Anyone else has any comments on touring and crowds in late Sept-early Oct?
