The wonderful difference of USA and UK words

yeah thats something my Dad would say. 'Ahhhh yes i met this really interesting bloke up the pup'

wonder if anyone in the US says - down the or up the when theyre referring to a journey somewhere:confused3

Well I'm more apt to say, "I met a really interesting guy at the mall," or something xD, dialects confuse me...:rotfl:

i hate it when the chavs are always like: "omg that was like proper dead good innit like" or something like that with proper or innit in a lot haha :D

or this one even....

Normal person - How you doing?
'It' (The Chav) - Safe mate like...proper sound...*gets out their phone and starts blasting out distorted music*

Now, now for some people the word like comes with the territority:snooty:
I seriously can't say a sentence without like being in there at least twice, I actually sat down and made a list of words to replace it the other day xD Yes I need a list because otherwise I just say errrrrrrrr ummmm... like. xD

i say like all the time too. just not with "proper dead sound mate innit" in the sentence.

I say either up or down. Like, I go down the Shore because it is south of where I am. When we did ski vacations, we would go up to Vermont because it is north of where we are.

I say "OMG I met this totallllly cute guy at the mall today. Dang he was fiiiiiiiine". ;)

Haha, same :)

Where I am from, we are sterotyped for having loads of chavs.

I say innit ALL the time, but without realising it.

My accent creates new words on its on.
"so" is "saaar" LOL. So if I or someone says So what it comes out "Saaar wot?"

We also don't pronounce our T's so words like Yesterday become "yezerday" and typing is "eye-pin'" don't pronounce y's or g's at the end of words either.

example a normal sentance;
I went online yesterday to find that nobody was there.

becomes

I when onliiiiiine yezerday ter find that noboday was(z) dere.

It's a horrible dialect.

"up" here in the Midwest US, people enjoy going "Up North" for their vacations. That's seriously all they call it... just going to a northern city in the state, of course.

Typical essex girl :p

*points*

Typical.. welsh.. girl?
LMAO

I have quite a toned down Essex accent. I speak more like people in Kent do, it is easier on the ears lol.

I'm terrified for my interview at this school in Kent next week, and if I go there, I am going to get so much banter for the way I talk and basically being from Essex :P

I love the Welsh accent though. It's like music, in a weird kinda way.

so we have emos, goths, chavs and ravers (meeeeeee) lol

US have emos, goths, preps, nerds.....

cant think of any others:lmao:

I barely have an accent :p
Full out welsh accents are hard on the ears, they're barely coherent! I swear universities would turn you away if you had a welsh accent xD

You forgot:

Fries - Chips
Chips - Crisps
Jello - Jelly
Jelly - Jam
Bangs - Fringe
Fanny Pack - Bum Bag (you think that's funny, a fanny in the UK is a lady's private area...)
Offensive word for gay person in the USA means cigarrete in the UK.

Because of that, I cringe whenever I hear someone from my side of the pond say, "fanny pack."
