The Wilderness Must Be Explored (for 15 days!)- A Mother/Daughter Trip! NEW 3/6

I don't know if I said this already or not, but I'm so exicted for this TR!!!!!!!

I'm dying to see all your resorts! I admit I can't remember which three you're staying at (never mind which one you're heading to first) so I'll just wait to be surprised.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who enjoys the Disney stuff in MCO. DSis and I joke you could fly to MCO, take a picture in every gift shop, and it would look like you had the most amazing Florida trip ever!

Awwww! Thanks! I'm super excited too. I'm thinking another update is in store for tonight...... :)

NEXT UPDATE! WOOHOO! Oh, I am almost getting giddy just thinking about writing the TR. It's not quite re-living it....but it's close!

We don't stop in the shops on the way in, but definitely on the way out! We even pin traded! They have AWESOME pins. I think because most people don't pin trade in the airport, they don't get swapped with a lot of scrappers. So I do have one more thing to look forward to after Magical Express!

Arriving and Checking In!

LOOK! IT'S A DISNEY BUS SIGHTING!

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip016_zps58be1bee.jpg

First, we went here.

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip023_zps1da3f361.jpg

It always seems to take FOREVER to get to your resort, doesn't it?!?!?!??!

We watched "Donald's Vacation" while waiting for POP people to disembark. I <3 Donald.

And then we went HERE!

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip028_zpsc4945681.jpg

And yes, that is me with my rescued video camera.

I was so excited to see this resort! And pictures DO NOT do it justice. Seriously.

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip031_zpsaaaf9688.jpg

The lobby is so much more than just paintings on a wall. It really tells a story all of its own.

I wish I had taken the time to look at all the pictures but, the outside and the room and dinner awaited!

MINE! MINE! MINE!

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip032_zps7952c2a1.jpg

Mama found this little gem. Ever wonder what inspired the tractor tipping? The tractors were inspired by actual cows. How cool is that???

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip034_zps5dc3a926.jpg

After making our way through the lobby, we checked in at an orange desk. (Attention to detail people!)

The CM checking us in didn't quite explain everything, such as how the tap-to-pay works. But I knew all of that already, so it didn't matter.

We were sent on our way to Little Mermaid, building #9!

Here is where we are...

DSC00112_zpsbbdade61.jpg

Hey look -- I didn't even need a GPS!

We didn't take pictures of our surroundings along the way. I was feeling really horrible at this point. I was so sad because I couldn't appreciate anything at the time! Even thinking about it now is making me sad!

I really missed the "Yay! I'm checking into my Disney hotel and I'm super excited!" feeling. Instead it was, please get me to the room because I'm going to lay there and die a slow, hearing impaired, snot filled death.

Too much information???

Ummm..... yeah.

We found our way to the room and Mama looked for the slot to put the key in. I helpfully explained that she could just "tap" and she thought it was neat!

I wasn't much help in the first stages of room discovery. I basically did a quick tour, made sure Mama had pictures of the bed, and lay down. Here's a picture tour, courtesy of Mama!

See any hidden Mickeys?

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip054_zps9d709be5.jpg

The resort and the room were so cool! I had so much fun checking the little details. I think my favorite part of the room was the shower. No lie. Specifically the tile that made you think you were actually in Ariel's grotto. And the light above the shower may or may not have been dim on purpose but it added to the effect.
The headboard was perty cool. Gotta love a pearl in a clam shell!
It was so nice to see towel animals upon check-in. (Spoiler alert: A rarity on this trip. Actually, these were the best of the whole trip.)
ENOUGH LOOKING AT THE ROOM -- I'M HUNGRY! lol

Next....dinner!

Subbing in! Sounds like a fun trip! Every time I see pictures of the LM rooms at AOA I just fall in love with them again. It really really sucks that you were not feeling well, I can't imagine how terrible that must have felt to be at Disney and be sick.

Awww I feel so bad for you Lauren feeling that icky on Disney day.

Yeah, the "tap" is pretty darn cool.

Those towel animals are fantastic!!! :goodvibes

Seeing all your LM room pics makes me want to go back so much!!! Ariel is my favorite so I absolutely love those rooms. I hope you guys found the hidden mickeys in the grotto in the shower!

:sad2::sad2::sad2::sad2::sad2:

DEFINITELY not enough time spent in the room --- but at least I see one in the picture above!

It definitely wasn't the welcome that I wanted to have. I honestly feel like I need to back to explore the resort because all of the time I spent there, I wanted to go to sleep!

Those were the best towel animals ever! So cute!
I started leaving the KTTW card in my lanyard and just holding the lanyard up to the reader. So convenient!

Great update! :)

Thanks!

NO! I did NOT see the hidden mickeys!!!!!!!! Guess I have to go back someday :)

It's our first night in Disney!!!

After taking pictures of the room, we headed back to the main building for dinner. This was one of my, shall we say, less than stellar moments. I was tired, hungry, my head hurt, I couldn't hear, and I was sneezing and coughing. Not a wonderful combination.

After taking a look at the menus, we decided on the Butter Chicken with multigrain rice. You get to choose two sides and we chose the cauliflower and spinach with paneer cheese. The entree normally comes with one piece of naan bread, but we asked for a second and got it for free!

I had asked for the extra naan bread and intended it to be the 3 piece portion that you pay for as an additional side. I asked for extra and he gave us the 1 free. Don't get me wrong, free bread is great. BUT, it was so nummy yum yums that I could have easily eaten another piece!

We got bottled water to drink, as we'd be getting our resort mugs the next day. It was one of the HUGE bottles of water and I was very happy.

One very important rule when traveling with a Duck: water her regularly! A dehydrated Duck is NOT a Happy Duck!

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip055_zps5f43c338.jpg

The food was very good. Even though cauliflower isn't one of my favorite vegetables, I did eat it. It was a tad tough for me though. I really liked the spinach and paneer cheese. The chicken was your typical Indian buffet chicken. Tasty but nothing special. The rice was very good. It had a nutty taste to it and was very satisfying. And I love naan bread.

We decided that we just had to get dessert. I remembered seeing pictures of the Mickey ganache on the DIS and knew that I had to try it! We decided to get only one to share and I am glad we did. The ganache was typical, nothing special, and the cake was dry. I don't know if that is how it is normally, but this particular dessert wasn't worth it to us. It looks very cute though!

WP_20130810_007_zpse7d56791.jpg

We left the Landscape of Flavors through the Ink and Paint shop, since they are so conveniently connected.

One of my goals was to find medicine. It was time to knock this cold down! They had Contac brand, which I've never used before, but it seemed to work very well. I also picked up some Afrin nasal spray to get rid of that pesky runny nose.

Of course, after the necessities were in hand, we had to look over that whole store! I don't know if it was the food or the fact that I was shopping (probably both) but I did start to feel a teeny bit better at this point.

I found the purple Art of Animation shirt that I wanted so bad...but they didn't have it in my size. Boo. (In hindsight, I really should have asked if they had anymore! At the time I just didn't feel like it...)

Oops! Didn't go back for this shirt. Guess we gotta plan another trip!!!!!! (What? Think I'm a bit Disney obsessed? ;) )

We got a few odds and ends. Mostly some things that we knew we had to get for people back home and didn't want to forget.

A great gift for younger sister, Sarah -- a pen in the design of the AoA paintbrush. She loves it!

And of course since we had our lanyards we PIN TRADED! Oh yes! I was so happy to be back in pin trading heaven. We ended up trading with 2 different CMs and their pin board!

After finishing up our shopping, and getting our first sticker shock of the trip (yay annual pass discount!) we headed back to the room.

I medicated and started feeling better. I still had fullness and pressure in my ear, but the rest of my head was clear!

I was so happy because I actually felt well enough to go swimming at the Nemo pool!

Insert picture here. Someone forgot to put in a picture! I know it was the pic from the next morning, but it was still a cool picture....

It was amazing leaving the room at that point. I was really starting to feel much better (better living through drugs!) and was basically experiencing the resort for the first time! I was oohing and aahing at everything and getting all giddy. Yay happiness!

We walked around the backside of the resort, along the lake, instead of walking straight through the middle. We wanted to see as much of the resort as possible. You could see Pop Century across the lake and it looked really neat.

WP_20130810_009_zps36e03da1.jpg

The pool was very crowded, but we expected that. UP was showing on the large screen so that was very fun to see! It was like Disney knew we were coming on our adventure!!!! (THE WILDERNESS MUST BE EXPLORED!!!!)

I never thought of it that way! that just made me say "Awwwwwwwwwwwww".

We finally found two chairs that were free. No luck getting chairs in view of the movie screen though :(

We went in via the zero entry area. That was so cool! Logically you know that you are just walking into the water, but it doesn't quite hit you until you start swimming and are like, "I just walked into the pool and started swimming."

Okay, I know that didn't make much sense. But it was very cool to me. Moving on.

We did make sure to go underwater and listen to the music. It was actually hard to do! There were too many people (and too many unsuspecting kids) that you couldn't really just swim around under water. Kids were constantly running into us. It was like I needed my own personal space bubble!

So very very crowded. It was nice to see that parents were letting there kids relax before bed, but geeeeeze, wall-to-wall tiny tots. If I remember correctly the song that was playing underwater had the phrase "I live in a land down under". Anyone know the name of the song?

We stayed in the pool for about 20 minutes or so. After trying to actually swim (with no success) we decided to head out and have fun in the splash zone! And by have fun, I mean I put my feet in a few of the jets and had fun stopping the water from coming out like a little child. "Mama! Mama! A fish spit on me!"

We left the Nemo pool and went to try out the Little Mermaid pool. It was very cute!

There was definitely a crowd at the pool, although it wasn't nearly the crowd level of the Nemo pool. We stayed for a bit, and then decided that the pool wasn't doing it for us this evening. Instead, we changed and went back to Landscape of Flavors for a late night snack! We rationalized that our shared disappointing ganache was not sufficient.

There was a debate though...do we get a brownie or gelato? Hmmm.... decisions. In the end we decided on gelato.

And that took awhile. I don't know if it was the CM running the show, or the customers in front of us, but it seemed to take forever! In the end, I chose chocolate with rainbow sprinkles. And then I was sad because I didn't even realize that I could get Mickey sprinkles! Rainbow sprinkles are fun too though.

Despite the sprinkle conundrum, at this moment, I was very happy. I was getting a snack in Disney, I was with my Mama in Disney, I was wearing my pin lanyard in Disney. I was in DISNEY!!!!!!!! Plus, I got complimented on my pins by the CM running the register, so that made me happy.

This was a picture of our gelato, after walking back to the room...so of course we had started eating and of course it started to melt. It was tasty though and very rich.

"Started" to melt? It was hot outside and I had a drippy mess on my hand. But it was still very tasty and I TOO was in DISNEY!!!

WP_20130810_013_zps1dc2aa4b.jpg

After eating our snack, we changed into pjs and watched Miss Congeniality. Exciting, right?

We set our wake-up call for 6am, scheduled luggage pick-up for 7am, and went to bed at 11pm!

Good night!!!

Any guesses which park was first on our list?!?!?!??!?!?!

So glad you started to feel a little better Lauren. I can't imagine any place worse to be feeling sick.

Seeing POP across the lake (and vise versa) is a really awesome sight. I love that they are so close together. :goodvibes

It was like a whole new beginning for me! You'll have to wait and see how long it was until I got my hearing back...

I've only seen POP from a distance, but it looked pretty from our point of view! In a perfect world, we would have taken the time to walk over and explore. There's always next time :)

This just in.......I just found out 20 minutes ago that I will be having a ticker soon!!! Yay Annual pass justification!!!!!

This just in.......I just found out 20 minutes ago that I will be having a ticker soon!!! Yay Annual pass justification!!!!!

Look out World ...... the Happy Duck is making "spreadsheets of joy!" Time to figure out the best possible scenario -- days, resorts, food, 1 or 2 rooms -- let the mayhem begin! :cheer2:

Get ready for a MAGICAL day!

Good morning Disney! We woke up to the phone alarm at 6:00 am. I didn't get to hear the message because Mama hung up the phone instead of turning on speaker phone. Oh well. There's always tomorrow!

Just a bit of clarification: the 6 a.m. fog was in my brain and I thought I was putting the speaker on.... but...... ummm........ no. OOPS!

Once I woke up, I got the most wonderful surprise ever: I could hear!!!! My ear must have popped overnight. I still had a cold, but at least my head didn't feel like it was about to explode.

She was so funny when she sat up. Lauren had the biggest grin on her face and she looked like she was going to bounce all day long -- just like TIGGER! And why not? It was time for our first day in a WDW PARK!!!!

We decided to lay in bed for awhile...until 6:15. We couldn't stand it anymore!!!

We showered, got ready, and packed to leave. That was so strange! Luggage services came right on time at 7:00. It was so easy. I highly recommend the process to anyone who wants to switch resorts during the trip. We sent 5 bags over to our next home and headed out to explore AOA.

It was so great to see the resort in the day time and with my full range of senses! Enjoy!

The Lion King section really is larger than life!

Cars isn't my favorite movie of all of those represented, but I think it was the most "believable" section. As cool as it looks, you can't actually transport yourselves "under the sea".

I know that we took more pictures of the Lion King and Little Mermaid sections, but I can't seem to find them......very annoying.

After exploring, we went to get breakfast at Landscape of Flavors. We decided on a bagel and grapes to share.

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip079_zpsa20ca9e6.jpg

Yup. First breakfast. Exciting, wasn't it? but I tell you what -- those grapes were so good and cold and sweet. Wouldn't be the last time we got them!

This time, I remembered that the Tables in Wonderland discount applies to food courts! If there is not a table service restaurant at the resort, the TIW discount applies to the food court. Very helpful.

After getting breakfast, we walked right up to the Magic Kingdom bus that had helpfully pulled up for us!

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip078_zpsf5413c64.jpg

Happy girls on the bus!

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip080_zps7d5542a3.jpg

We were on the bus at 7:27...and at Magic Kingdom at 7:40!!!

There are definite advantages to leaving the resort so early in the morning. A whole 13 minutes door-to-door. I wish it could always be like that.

Daddy keeps saying he'll send us all to stay at the Grand for a week....sure. Only if we don't want to eat for a week!

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip082_zps8af124e6.jpg

So just for fun we "planned a week" and gave him the total. Let me just say that his jaw was on the floor for awhile.

We got in the short line at Guest Relations to pick up Mama's Annual Pass. The CM almost scanned a Mickey pass for her but I caught him just in time. There's only one type of AP for Mama:

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip083_zps9b611b6e.jpg

The names not Minnie Momma for nothin'!

After getting the AP, we had to wait awhile to even get through the ticket turnstiles. We were, um, a bit early.

A "bit' early? That's what she wants you to think. Yup, we were early all right! Remember what time we arrived? Uh-huh. 'Nuff said.

But I wasn't mad -- just impatient! The castle was RIGHT THERE!!!!!!

Waiting to get in!

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip084_zpscd181ab6.jpg

I was proud of myself that I remembered that I used my left hand for the finger scan attached to my AP. In hindsight, I should have used my right back in April because it would be so much easier with the MagicBand...

I'm really here!!!

WDWAugust2013Mother-DaughterTrip086_zps42f18926.jpg

Mama's really here too!!!

Congrats to you both on your weight loss, it's awesome :goodvibes

She let me have some of the magic later on. She's a good sharer! LOL

I get so excited every time I see my AP here at home! And now I get to see a MagicBand :)

I think we could have enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, but then the line might have been longer at the bus stop.....It definitely added to the suspense of the morning!
