The Wilderness Lodge FAQ (Part 6) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

Only 29 more days!!! I can't believe we will be there in less than a month.

This thread rocks! Can't wait to stay in the lodge!

Suzanne,

OK, I got the scoop. I found out that ALL handicapped accessible rooms on the Club Level have only 1 king sized bed. Therefore, I was told to tell you that when you call to make your reservations, tell the agent that you would like to book one room for say 3/4 guests (don't know how many are going); but you have one person who will be in that room and is handicapped.

The agent should then transfer you to a "special needs department" reservationist who will help you. They will ask your information and that they should give you 1 handicapped accessible king bed room and then give you another room with two queen beds. This room will be "connected" to your other room. You will not be charged for the second room. The agent will then call the Club Level and confirm with them that at the time you will be visiting that they will have those rooms available. So book early.

Hope you get a knowledgable reservationist.

Hope this helps.

Oh dizneykid, you don't know how much that has settled my mind. I was under the impression that this is what would happen, but Special needs won't actually tell you this.

My AAA TA is working on this for me, so hopefully they will get it right. We are going in December and I have been told that there are several rooms available, so hopefully it won't be a problem.

Thank you again,

Suzanne

Suzanne, that's the way I understand it too from reading on the DISabililties forum. We're staying at WL 5/30-6/5. Three in our part and have asked for an accessible room. I think pretty much all the HC rooms are king bed only.

I think Disney doesn't want to advertise what they do for parties of 3 or 4 because you know there will be people reserving HC room just to get the 2nd room when there is no need. And with ADA, Disney can't ask for any sort of proof that the HC room is actually needed.

Oh yes, you are right, it just makes it hard to take a vacation without peace of mind. I am the kind of person that needs to know what I am going to have before I get there and I don't have that.

Now, make sure they know that you need "fully" accessible, because there are different categories of HA rooms and not all of them have the same features. That is how we ended up with a mess in December. Someone didn't change some info in the computer and we ended up with the wrong kind of facilities and no way to change them. I certainly want to make sure that doesn't happen again, because it made for a difficult trip.

Veteran WL's I need your help with a MUSIC challenge from my DH - I need to figure out what music to play in our car as we're approaching WL to get us mentally ready for the experience.

As an example of what I’m looking for: Last time we stayed at AKL, I had a Putumayo Afridan kids music CD playing which *really* made us feel like we were going somewhere exotic & fun. Last year was our first in WL, and the CD I picked just didn't match the whole WL experience.

So…. What kind of music would you recommend for listening when we arrive into WL? We're not much into country music though we love bluegrass. Kids music perhaps? Suggestions? I'd LOOOOVE to surprise DH with my music selection this year! (if it helps any, our DD is 3.75 yrs old)

TIA!

casana I would reccommend some of the Wilderness Lodge background music. You can find the list of music here: http://www.mousesavers.com/wlmusic.html

It will make it feel like you're right there in the lodge

You can buy the songs individually on iTunes or possibly Amazon and compile your own mix.

Maybe you can get some soundtracks to "western" musicals or movies like "Oklahoma!" or "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers"?

On Sorcerer Radio (a live365 internet radio station) they play the lobby music from the Wilderness Lodge. I don't know if there is a way to access this music to play in the car, but it doesn't seem like you could do better than playing the actual WL music.

That's right - I knew you were going to overlap with us! We'll have 6 adults and 3 kids so maybe you'll see us looking around the lodge in amazement since we've never been before! We are SO excited too, my house is a total mess because instead of doing dishes and laundry I'm either on here reading or at the store buying supplies for the trip! DH can't wait until it's over. :rotfl2:

We did it, we upgraded to WL CL for our December trip and I can hardly wait. I haven't been to the WL since August 2007, and we have never stayed CL before.
