The Wilderness Lodge and Villas FAQ (Part 7) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

Hello everyone! I would love to see some of your photos at the WL. We have not been there since our honeymoon in 1995. However, DD14 was there in 2000 with Grandma and Grandpa. We are looking forward to taking a nice family picture while there to show our complete family 16 years later.

Also, I love the tips and secrets. We are doing a courtyard view and DSIL, DBIL, and eldest DNiece will be joining us. We will be celebrating a 50th (BIL), 40th (me ) and 21st (DNiece).

We have been doing the Poly the past two years and will miss it, but this was a chance for our family of 5 to stay at the WL one more time. I will miss the Volcano Pool and the monorail....so what will keep me happy at the WL???

I hope you have a great vacation at the Lodge!

Can anyone advise when the Christmas decorations usually appear at the WL?

Thanks :goodvibes

Last November everything was up on Friday, November 18th in both the Lodge and Villas. We were told they went up a day late this year and normally would have been up on the morning of that Thursday - so the decorations at the Lodge usually go up overnight on the Wednesday of the week before Thanksgiving.

Other resorts are not as decorated by then - EPCOT resorts were just beginning the decorations, with very little done. Parks are not completely decorated yet either, but will be by Thanksgiving. :)

Thanks, I was hoping they might be a little bit earlier, but at least I'll be able to go to MVMCP :)

It's May and I can say now that I will be at WL THIS month!!:banana:

Since I've never stayed before, I've been reading up as much as I can and I have learned to:

-Rub Humphrey's nose when we get there for good luck on the vacation.
-Ask for ketchup at WCC dinner.
-Check out the geyser.

Any other tips?

Hello Ole Friend.:cool1: They are doing some repaving in the bus stop area at WL and they have some temporary awnings set up to use out near the edge of the parking area. Not sure if the work has been completed though.:confused3

Hey buddy! Hows it going on your end of NC? Thanks for the reply! I read where the construction was being done and it had me puzzled. We'll be there in a month and half, a couple days after school gets out for the summer. We had to come home to WL after spending a week at Poly CL last year.

Thanks. I know there are plenty of places that I can go and review photos, but sometimes the best ones are by the people who frequent the most.

I hope everyone keeps them coming. i.e. the photo of the pool....question can you see over the rock wall to see people in the main pool. Let's say the kids are swiming and we still want to keep a watchful eye, will we be able to see.

Do they allow cocktails by the (non-glass) by the hot tubs? CSR did, but I know the Poly didn't allow them within a certain amount of distance.

I really enjoy the Banana Cabana from the Poly pool bar....any recommendations at the WL Trout Bar?

There is nothing like relaxing poolside with a cocktail in hand (not a Mango Margarita fan).

The two photos I posted were taken from our 5th floor balcony and from there I could see DD clearly.

The Poly doesn't have a hot tub, but at the WL I believe there was a rules sign by the hot tubs that mentioned no beverages while in the hot tub, which I noticed after I had brought a Diet Coke down with me:rolleyes1.

I can't make a recommendation, but here is the menu. Maybe a Poolside Lemonade or Capt's Mai Tai?

In anyone's experience/opinion, are there any Deluxe Room locations to avoid? I usually don't make location requests, leave it up to chance. But I'd hate to have a lousy view. Location to the lounge is not important. I just don't want to end up without a view. Pool/courtyard view, lake view either are fine. I looked up the link with the "Jr.Suite" locations, and it looks like they are all in decent locations. TIA for your input:)

tlhbdm and luvthemouse71 Enjoy your upcoming trips! Be sure to tell us all about it when you get back!!!!

They are situated at the far end of the north and south wings, as well as, in the middle of the south wing. The north wing mostly has a woods view. The south wing would have courtyard or lake views. I'd request a higher floor in the south wing. Good luck! :cool1:

Since we are on the subject of room views/requests.... We are staying at the villas at the end of the month in a 1 bedroom. Although I have stayed once in the main hotel I have never stayed in a Villa... Can you make room requests with them? and if you can... which is the best one to make? Are there water views from any of the villas or is it all woods?

I was wondering this too as this will be our first VWL stay as well. We will also be in a one brdm but MS said there really wasnt much to request with this type of room. I was confused but since I have never stayed there I really didnt know what else to say or ask.

I have also been hearing about the villas pool but havent seen a pic of it only the main pool.

I know that I was out-numbered on the Resort Changer's thread, but I think you made a fantastic decision switching to the WL Deluxe room, pas130!

I'm very confused though. You were keeping this a secret from your family, but you wrote that your kids are super excited:confused3. Is the secret not a secret anymore? Does this mean you can talk about it and show them WL photos:hyper:? I posted Christmas CL photos, have you found them?

You and your family are going to love CL at the Lodge. There's plenty of seating and a separate area for your kids to watch Disney shows. The view down to the lobby is spectacular. And while you won't be on the CL floor, you're going to have a fantastic view from your Deluxe room. This would be the last year you could book the room because DS will count as a 6th person, right?WCC is such a hoot. Make sure you book one breakfast there, too. They have an all-you-can-eat breakfast served family style that will fill you up. The gravy is yummy. Make sure you have one of the kids ask for ketchup at dinner;). The WCC also has many Lincoln Logs to play with before dinner and the kids will love "racing" around the restaurant with their wooden horses. Try and request "MT Wallet's" area - she's a lot of fun.

I'm so excited for you, pas130. If you have any questions, fire away!

Sorry to butt in, but am I reading this correctly that after this year, DS will make 6 for pas130's family? The deluxe rooms at WL hold 6 people, so even at 6 they can still have one room.

Thanks for paying attention! I meant 7. You're absolutely correct that the Deluxe room will accommodate up to 6 who are aged three and over.

Thanks for correcting the record:thumbsup2
