Saturday 24th May
Now today was supposed to be one of our 'out of park' days as it's Memorial weekend but that got swapped with yesterday due to the weather.
WDW is definitely getting busier, once we arrived at Magic Kingdom we got to see just how busy it was! I have never seen so many people in one theme park, but saying that we did manage to get on what we wanted so no complaints at all.
First stop was to get fast passes for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain had just reopened after being closed (?technical fault) as we were there we got straight onto that with no wait, I rode first with Rads, then Si went on with her through the fast pass queue curtesy of baby switch (again we were given a ticket), after that it was time to go on BTMR which was handy as we're right next to it!
Then we got fast passes for The Haunted Mansion, as these were for much later in the day we could get more straight away so Si nipped over to get some for Space Mountain while Rads, Zak & I queued up for Tweedledee & Tweedledum!
. Time for lunch now although I can't for the life of me remember where we had it!!! lol then it was Alien Encounter, Si took Rads on while I waited with Zak then when they came out she didn't want to do it again phew!!! I thought I'd got away with it but you'll find out later in the trip that I was yet to face the creature!
Time for Space Mountain, hooray, I love the mountain rides in Magic Kingdom, they're all great rides. Again the parentswitch worked very well with the ticket system, not really anywhere specific to wait but at least there are seats outside the shop.
I haven't mentioned that Rads has been spending this trip on a search for hidden Mickeys, after buying her Birnbaums guide for kids, it had hints on where to find them, I'm afraid I failed to spot the one on Space Mountain but when she went on with Si they saw it. Still looking for the one on Splash Mountain though something for next time.
While they were on Space Mountain I took Zak over to the babycare centre for feeding and changing in the cool with the plan to meet them there afterwards. Sadly this was a bit of a struggle on my own as you're not allowed to take buggies in there and Zak isn't old enough for the old fashioned style highchairs they have. Great themeing guys but a little more practicality please? Consequently I had to try and make a bottle up while holding him at the same time as there was nowhere to sit him, if you use this babycare centre with a baby too young to sit unassisted I'd strongly advise going when you have another pair of hands to help. Excellent facility though if your baby can sit. We even managed to sterilise his bottles in the kitchen there. There's a well equipped kitchen with microwave, hob, sink, bottle warmers etc. a changing room with very sensible changing mats that most lil'uns would be hard pushed to roll off! A feeding room with highchairs, and toddler size table and chairs, and a TV showing (of course) Disney films for the older children to watch, there were also facilities for nursing mums. It's just a shame it isn't a little bigger so you could take your buggy in with you, that would have made life a lot easier.
After that it was time to go on Buzz Lightyear with the fast passes we'd got on the way to the babycare centre, we all rode that together then onto The Haunted House which again all 4 of us went on, Zak was quite happy on both of these rides and had plenty of things to look at. Then we got fast passes for The Jungle Cruise, I took Rads on Pirates of the Caribbean while Si stayed with a sleeping Zak, we all went into The Enchanted Tikki Room when he woke which is in fact the first time I've been in here and it's very good, then after that it was straight onto The Jungle cruise, again all 4 of us. We were delighted with how much we got to do together today as there are so many rides that Zak could go on and was quite happy on. I'm almost over the trauma of the Winnie The Pooh ride being closed for refurb!
We then stopped for hotdogs at the end of Main Street and found a place to sit to watch Spectromagic over in Frontierland, sadly after we'd been sat in a great spot for around 15 minutes, they came and moved us all on, and put up rope for it to be a disabled spot, we quickly found another great spot though and camped on the ground waiting.
Spectromagic was as great as always, afterwards we squeezed our way through to the front of the castle to watch the fireworks. Exiting the park that evening was not one the trips highlights sadly just due to the huge volume of people and was a tight squeeze all the way out, there are a lot of people who don't look down and see a baby ina buggy so end up practically walking on him in their bid to get out. Luckily once we were out of the gate, 90% of the crowd head off to the monorail or boat so we joined the tiny percentage walking to the Disney bus stops phew.
Vowed to spend the next 2 days making the most of our excellent resort and not visiting parks!
Sunday 25th May
Had a nice slow morning, we wandered over to the Boardwalk and did the DVC tour, we've never done this before and bought site unseen so it was great to see it, of course we left armed with all the figures and information for an add-on
Afterwards we wandered over to the Fantasia Miniature golf which was great fun and made a nice change, I scored 3 over par which I was quite impressed with actually!!! LOL Si on the other hand scored 2 below par, something I've only recently forgiven him for!
Rads did really well also (well.........lol) and really enjoyed it, it gets my thumbs up for an alternative thing to do and a good bit of quality family time.
Then we walked back to the Beach Club, had lunch in Beaches & Cream and spent the afternoon in SAB.
Back to the room for showers and off to Outback Steakhouse for dinner, this definitely gets the vote as my favourite place we ate on this trip, the food is fantastic here, you've got to try the 'blooming onion' starter which is worth the visit in itself but doesn't leave too much room for all those gorgeous steaks, shrimp & lobster tails.
